The problem is the No Child Left Behind act. The teachers have to teach to the tests and are not able to teach to the students comprehension levels. If a student or group of students have a problem, then the entire class has to learn 3x3 there is no advantage or time to teach independantly. If it isn't required information according to the government, then it is not taught. This isn't because of teachers and schools and their lack of knowledge or skills, it is because of NCLB and how it caters to tests. |

The part I hate is that the teachers are conditioned to deny teaching to the test.....yet my kid( who is not taking the test) is constantly telling me...."I need to know this for the test"....and that they are not able to teach ( say math) in a different way ...then what will be required of you on the test.....its not so much about being educated....and leaving school with important knowledge anymore......its more about keeping up your schools test scores. That is sad....not only for me as a parent...but for the children that require a different method of teaching.....and probably for the teacher.....I can imagine most teachers go into the profession.....hoping to teach to a state test. |
