George H.W. Bush did the same thing. This is the link to an interesting article from Politifact: |

All these idiotic conspiracy theories perpetuated by right-wing politicians about the 'real' reason Pres. Obama wants to address school children are delusionary musing at the least. They want to have us believe he is going to indoctrinate young minds to convince their parents to buy into socialism, communism, etc. Pres. Obama's advance speech concerns staying in school, studying hard and doing your best - my gawd - how awful is that? How horrible to even suggest such a thing. I'm afraid some of these idiots lost their minds when the republicians lost the election! |

It is getting to the point I am afraid to go out of my house with all these crazy idiots running around acting like suicide bombers or something. Imo losing the election absolutely took away any rational thoughts that there might have been for some. Isn't if funny that there has never been a problem with a President talking to kids UNTIL the Reps lost the election? Everything was fine and dandy when it was Bush or Nixon or Reagan doing this. Now why are Dems less paranoid you think? BIG old double standard. They are latching on to anything they can find to heal the wounds of an election lost. Anyday now we will hear Faux report that Obama flushes his toilet wrong and it is ruining our country... |

LOL!!! - such as "an impressionable young child happened upon our president as he exited from a restroom..however he had the audacity to advise this child to wash his hands as he vacated...now there is no need to warn this child of germs or to needlessly horrify this child of how the lack of proper hygiene could lead to the rare possibly that the school is stricken with the swine flu (h1n1 virus) or any sort of other illness OR that it contributes to it spreading. what is our president thinking by scaring innocent children like this!?? shame on him!!" lmao - i think the world has gone nuts. |

Why give this nonsense any attention at all? When I heard it I laughed.....at the stupidity of it! Ignorance is not bliss! |

I'm not an Obama fan, but as long as he doesn't go into a political agenda, then I see no problem with him encouraging our children to stay in school via a public address. Our children are so far behind some other nations in education that we really need to step up our focus on education if we want our children and grandchildren to compete in a global economy. |

Quote Longhornsfan79: Quote bigtimesoapfan: Quote sarahconnor: Quote daisyjo: Glad you like FOX News but you may want to watch the other real news networks as well. I watch all three cable networks (CNN, MSNBC, FOX) and ABC, CBS and NBC as well and I can tell you that FOX is definitely not "fair and balanced". You can let your kids read O'Reilly's book (not lie? O'Reilly should reread that book)but I can hardly stomach listening to him. My opinion is not based on hearsay although FOX counts on that when they report. They count on the fact that their viewers watch only FOX and then pass along the views expressed on the network. Try some other channels. Students don't need parental consent- FOX's Glenn Beck and other Conservative groups are the one's promoting "Parental Consent" for the President's speech. Fox is conservative and biased. I have watched them all ..personally my kids will be given books from both sides and make up their mind on their own. And the others aren't thats the pot callin the kettle black if I ever heard it!! When has CNN or MSNBC ever said anything to question some of the things Mr. Wonderful is doing? Like him being on foriegn soil and bad mouthing our country or recently @ a town hall meeting planting a child(who's mother is well known to The Obamas due to campaign stuff) in the audience to ask questions written by adults? Please Fox should be applauded not condemned for bringing the TRUTH!!!! Just because somepeople choose to bury their heads in the sand and pretend all is well doesn't make it so!! Oh and by the way my kids do choose their own reading materials. I was supprised when my son showed me what he was reading as unfortunatley it's usually stuff like Pokemon, or things he's assigned @ school. I try to let my kids choose for themselves when possible and since I read the book when my older child got it (after attn a tea party(his choice I didn't attend Im not into that stuff) the topics were fine imo so Im letting him read it!! I mostly watch Fox news because ABC, CBS, CNN and especially MSNBC are sooo biased towards the left, it makes my stomach turn. On Fox, they have commentators on both sides of the issue. The others usually only present the lefts views. Is that why Fox is soooo biased in some peoples eyes? Because they actually let the right have a say? To me, that is only fair! I see stories on Fox that the others refuse to report on because of their bias. Fox continues to dominate the ratings. Foxs primetime pulls in more viewers than all the others primetime shows COMBINED! Even Foxs morning show pulls in more viewers than Keith Olberman. So, they must be doing something right! I agree. I worked in TV News for 8 years and I'm saddenned that journalism truely isn't there anymore. I can't even watch those channels, only Fox. I want to hear the truth not excuses and if something should be called into question I don't want my news station to just gloss over it. I also only listen to talk radio and I can't stand Bill Maher. bleech..... I don't mind a speech by the president, but I say we need to leave celebrities out of it, because what they say will influence children to do what they would do and Obama works for us as a leader, he's not god. |

Quote TinkerBell1: He is just trying to run the country and there are too many others that are making it difficult. And any President before him as well as any other that will follow...That is called Democracy. ....All and I do mean ALL Presidents catch hell....why would Obama be different? |
Plot-Twister![]() |
So, REI are you saying that all presidents should be catching hell for talking to students? All presidents who decide to go into an elementary classroom and read to the students should be bashed (prior to the actual reading)? Should parents be allowed to keep their kids home on the day that the president is coming to visit the school and that should be ok? Because yeah, really, who is he? Just the dude that is running the country. We don't like him Johnny, he blows....so you can't meet the most important man in the country. |

All that I am saying is that all Presidents catch hell for whatever reason....that's a fact...It's unbelievabe that Obama catches crap and all of a sudden it's a crime or it's bigotry...What was everyone saying about all the past Presidents...Why is Obama supposed to be someone different from all the past and future Presidents? |
