Quote sarahconnor: Quote Buckysgirl: What books do you read? Just curious. Sure!! Let's see - I can not list them all off the top of my head - I have a huge library and have read many from both sides but let me try to think of the most recent w/out going through the bookshelves. "An Inconvenient Book: Real Solutions to the World's Biggest Problems" - Glenn Beck Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right - Al Franklin --> Love this one!!! Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot - Al Franklin "The World Book of America's Presidents" --> everyone should have unbiased books on the facts of our presidents and books on our economy. "Conservatives, Liberals & All That Jazz" - Janeska Asante "See, I Told You So" - Rush Limbaugh "My Life" Bill Clinton Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World - Bill Clinton Real World Globalization: A Reader in Business, Economics and Politics * i want to get:: If Democrats Had Any Brains, They'd Be Republicans - by Ann Coulter (haven't read this one yet - should be fascinating) i am also ordering this one: How Democrats and Progressives Can Win: Solutions from George Lakoff I have read O'Reillys books and Limbaughs....LMAO No one is going to believe this but in college I was a member of the young republicans. I adore Frankin! He is just dang funny. I have read Carlin too. He is more known for being a comedian but When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops is really more politically oriented. I have read Bill Mahr, I have read Chris Matthews, I have read Ann Coulter. The funny thing is, we all have our own innate sense of values. We listen to people we tend to agree with. People we don't agree with tend to tick us off. That is why I think sometimes stupid little bits get blown up into huge big messes....for example this psa....in the grand scheme of things...who cares really? But the 24/7 news cycle we live in demands to be fed and this is what it is eating right now. If it can keep our minds on the little things, we don't notice the big things. Editing to say that I read the book on Dan Quayle too. I actually think he got a really bad deal on being stupid. He is anything but. And I have read Gore's Inconvenient Truth..... So many more. But ...yall get the gist. |

Quote bigtimesoapfan: Quote sarahconnor: Quote daisyjo: Glad you like FOX News but you may want to watch the other real news networks as well. I watch all three cable networks (CNN, MSNBC, FOX) and ABC, CBS and NBC as well and I can tell you that FOX is definitely not "fair and balanced". You can let your kids read O'Reilly's book (not lie? O'Reilly should reread that book)but I can hardly stomach listening to him. My opinion is not based on hearsay although FOX counts on that when they report. They count on the fact that their viewers watch only FOX and then pass along the views expressed on the network. Try some other channels. Students don't need parental consent- FOX's Glenn Beck and other Conservative groups are the one's promoting "Parental Consent" for the President's speech. Fox is conservative and biased. I have watched them all ..personally my kids will be given books from both sides and make up their mind on their own. And the others aren't thats the pot callin the kettle black if I ever heard it!! When has CNN or MSNBC ever said anything to question some of the things Mr. Wonderful is doing? Like him being on foriegn soil and bad mouthing our country or recently @ a town hall meeting planting a child(who's mother is well known to The Obamas due to campaign stuff) in the audience to ask questions written by adults? Please Fox should be applauded not condemned for bringing the TRUTH!!!! Just because somepeople choose to bury their heads in the sand and pretend all is well doesn't make it so!! Oh and by the way my kids do choose their own reading materials. I was supprised when my son showed me what he was reading as unfortunatley it's usually stuff like Pokemon, or things he's assigned @ school. I try to let my kids choose for themselves when possible and since I read the book when my older child got it (after attn a tea party(his choice I didn't attend Im not into that stuff) the topics were fine imo so Im letting him read it!! I mostly watch Fox news because ABC, CBS, CNN and especially MSNBC are sooo biased towards the left, it makes my stomach turn. On Fox, they have commentators on both sides of the issue. The others usually only present the lefts views. Is that why Fox is soooo biased in some peoples eyes? Because they actually let the right have a say? To me, that is only fair! I see stories on Fox that the others refuse to report on because of their bias. Fox continues to dominate the ratings. Foxs primetime pulls in more viewers than all the others primetime shows COMBINED! Even Foxs morning show pulls in more viewers than Keith Olberman. So, they must be doing something right! |

See, I am the same way as you guys are with the books. I cannot watch too much of those talking heads because it just makes me ornery. To me that is depressing. I don't mind reading, sometimes there are good points. |

I can't do the Al Franken, or the Rush, too theatrical for my taste. Ann Coulters writing style drives me crazy. I'm giving the Bill Clinton, My Life, a try. Miss him, not his escapades, but I miss his style of governing. I'm reading Glen Becks Common Sense. So many things from both sides scare the crap out of me. I wish it didn't require so much money to run for office. It seems to poison the well. Even the ones that really seem like they have the peoples interest at heart. Then they get to Washington, and it all goes to hell. Left- right they all seem to be in it for themselves, their cronies and their agenda. Tragic. Thanks for the list. Interesting to say the least. Have a great holiday. |

Hubby's philosophy is history can't be stopped and what is going to happen will and thats that no use crying over spilt milk!! I only 1/2 agree!! It is difficult to find people with different political ideology that can actually talk about their opinions. I only have 1 sometimes 2 friends that I can do that with. My big thing is that I want to be understood regarding my belief system. I came from a very very poor family and that shapes my world view. When I talk about food stamps, I have lived it. I have this driving need for people to understand that my mom was not a loser using the system and that most people are not. We hear about the people who do abuse it just like we hear about the priests who abuse children, yet we don't all say that the catholic religion should be stopped. I kinda agree with your husband, to a point. We do need to look at history and fix things or else we are going to repeat mistakes that were made. For the most part I think everyone really loves their country and no one wants it to dissolve, we just disagree on what to do. I wouldn't want the job of president for all of the money in the world. It is easy to say that it comes down to compassion. But it really doesn't. I think most people have compassion, but I think greed is the bigger motivator. Now, I am not saying everyone on the "other" side is greedy. I am saying we all are. We all want want want. But when it comes time to give, some pockets aren't as deep as others (both sides) and that hurts the country as a whole. |

But ...yall get the gist. I can believe it b/c throughout life, we all change stances to a degree...My family is largely republican LOL!! i'm the oddball. well me and a few others. One of my grandfathers was a professor in history after retiring from the military. he was very republican and whenever i asked questions that must have been decent he would get very defensive and try to intimidate me by saying things like "why would you ask that for? is that what you think? do you think they are right??"...such a bully!!!! i was around 12 when i first started asking stuff! lmao - well my mother was conservative in her views until hard times hit and she was ostracized by most conservatives b/c my father left (we just weren't all amercian enough i guess) and even shunned by her OWN family for a brief period. i think around that time most of her views shifted to democrat/liberal etc. she felt she had made a lot of responsible and good choices after the fact yet b/c of her circumstance (which was out of her control at this point) the family sort of blamed her for no longer having a husband. she and my father were married for 8 years before he left but it was still HER fault for getting pregnant and married so young..if she had not done that then she would not be in the circumstance she was in. in their eyes, she was so shamefully a single parent struggling and causing a burden on our economy which made the family look bad i guess. what a bunch of jerks. we did not see them for many years and did not hear from them until finally my grandmother decided she was all about forgiveness. yeeesh. not to mention my mother just finished her degree for chemical engineering and we were doing a lot better. personally i would not have talked to her again but my mother was always very nice & a good person. too nice at times if you ask me. i was there to see the whole thing. i remember my father getting away with "just being a typical guy" and no one casting blame on him and what a sorry excuse for a human being he was. I think i learned a lot of interesting lessons in "hypocrisy" first hand while growing up. i pretty much decided who i never EVER wanted to be like. so for a long time i chose democrat as well..i decided on "independent" after learning things from both sides that weren't all bad (based on economy for the most part) however my civil rights views will always be liberal and regardless of my stance, i will never be the type of person to treat my mother as she was treated. and as for the books, media, etc - it really wasn't my own choice to read both sides ..when i met tom (he is republican in stance) he had many books from that end so i read a few. after that i started reading more just b/c i did like to hear both sides although the majority of what i read leans democrat. so although an independent, i lean dem for the most part. but i will say i mostly read what Rush says for amusement. lol...i really don't agree with much that comes out of his mouth and yes Al Franklin is hilarious!!!! IMO, the books that make the most impact are just ones written with facts on history, our presidents, etc...one can pretty much form their own decisions/opinions based upon that....economics, global trade, history etc.....they will give you alot of info - so i get it plot, i went through many changes to land where i am now and those changes are solely derived from the information & experiences i have collected through the years. as for this Obama thing i really think it's blown up myself however i will wait for that transcript to come out and just read it..lol. |

My mom went through hll but when my mom got married and started having her kids my Grandma wanted to be in our lives. My mom said okay(Forget and forgive) and I gotta say she was the best Grandma I ever could've asked for!! Parents just like People live and learn. |
