That video is cheezy. Not flushing after urinating is NASTY. I'm not having pee filled toilets in my house. GROSS. What is with that guy kissing his biceps? Its drivel. I am no politicians servant. They work for me. I pay their salary.

As for Obamas speech, whatever. He has zero influence on my childs belief system. If your children can be so easily swayed by a little recorded speech by ANY president that would be a shame.

Quote sandi314: I'm really not into politics so I may be wrong about this. I partially heard Obama was having a broadcast to kids and if you wanted your kid to have no part in it don't send them to school that day. I don't know what it's about, but I agree with a man that called in and said,DID HE FORGET WHAT COUNTRY WE'RE IN? Now the president is specifically broadcasting to kids in school. Another caller said as soon as he was elected he changed. Alot of people that supported him do not anymore. In my opinion, he will not be re-elected. I don't care if it was to Say hi, it didn't belong in the school room.

Were you watching FOX News(?)? If so, that may be why you are confused. The President is simply taping a Presidential address geared to public school children. It is simply a teaching tool that can be used by educators. The tape is viewed by the children and their teacher's can use the supplied lesson plans or activities. He isn't trying to "convert" anyone or force his opinions on anyone. I believe it is simply a lesson in government, or perhaps a welcome back to school with some "teachable moments" included. From what I understand Glen Beck and others have a problem with it - but they seem to have a problem with almost everything lately. What is wrong with our children listening to a Presidential speech? He is our President after all. Current events, government politics - all part of Social Studies. It is a lot better and more educational than most of the movies they show during classroom time.
(When I was young I remember watching Presidential speeches or special news events on a television wheeled into the classroom or auditorium. Why is this so different? Perhaps the children will get involved in what is going on in the world today.)

Are you serious? Fox news is the best one on there!! My son is in 4th grade and is reading Bill O'Rielly for kids( he choose it his older brother(8th grade) had it(from his grandma) and so far he loves it he keeps talking about the *bullets on the pages and his fav. so far is chapter 1 where Bill says the most imp. things are
*To be Nice.
*Do not Steal.
*and not to Lie
* so whats wrong with that? Those are 3 ideas to live by(IMO)
thats a fox news guy so whats wrong with that? I find most people who bad mouth Fox news and those who are on it bad mouth them when they are going on heresay. I had a nun in school who told us when you assume things you make an ass*out*of*you*&me!! So Unless those who bad mouth it actually watch(so they know what they are talking about) I could care less what the opinion is because it's false(you don't know what you don't watch)so why talk about it @ all!!
I remeber watching this kind of stuff when I was in school(ah the good old days) and don't worry the kids will be too busy passing notes, talking to each other and doodling to even pay attn!! Kids love to daydream!! If my kids see it, and actually listen to what he had to say, then we'll talk about it, but other than that I'm not too worried about it!!
*
*
and if he wants to talk to the kids he should also be willing to listen to their wants and needs(like better school funding) and teachers actually teaching the kids Im still fuming that after 6th grade they don't teach spelling anymore and they wonder why kids can't spell!!.

Quote Longhornsfan79: Yes I remember presidential adresses in school but what I dont remember is anyone pledging to be a servant to the president in a video. Demi Moore and Ashton Cutcher made a video that is supposed to be played on the day Obama makes his adress. In the beginning of the video, they speak of volunteering and going green ect ect. That is not what I object to. But towards the end, one actor pledges to serve Obama and Demi and Ashton pledge to be a SERVANT to the president. This type of language should not be pushed upon impressionable young minds. I have provided a link to the video below.

This is actually the onlypart I have a real problem with!! I have no problem with serving my country(as I think God would be okay with it) but as for serving Obama, My children serve God! As do I!! This is definitley a point I will discuss with them!! We try to obey 10 laws (Given to us by God)and they are not the presidents!!and thats it
oh and by teh way my kids do watch South park(with their dad) and actually if you ever watch it they make alot of great points!!

Glad you like FOX News but you may want to watch the other real news networks as well. I watch all three cable networks (CNN, MSNBC, FOX) and ABC, CBS and NBC as well and I can tell you that FOX is definitely not "fair and balanced". You can let your kids read O'Reilly's book (not lie? O'Reilly should reread that book)but I can hardly stomach listening to him. My opinion is not based on hearsay although FOX counts on that when they report. They count on the fact that their viewers watch only FOX and then pass along the views expressed on the network. Try some other channels.
Students don't need parental consent- FOX's Glenn Beck and other Conservative groups are the one's promoting "Parental Consent" for the President's speech.

Fox is conservative and biased. I have watched them all ..personally my kids will be given books from both sides and make up their mind on their own.

Well, I am sorry, and please correct me if I am wrong but don't those in the cabinet etc SERVE at the president's request? I think the right is really going a little nutty over this....could be all of that teabagging. Gets you a little crazy. LMAO

OH alright I will apologize for the teabagging comment. I still think it is hysterical....but us liberals have very dirty minds.

LOL...im not hyper sensitive.

Yes the cabinet serves at the presidents request but, I saw no cabinet members in that video

Good to know about the hypersensitive thing. I am an equal opportunity mocker. When something strikes me funny, I laugh. LOL It might not always be politically correct, but dang, sometimes funny is just funny.

Anyway, I think my main point is that there may not be cabinet members in the video, but as American's Obama is our leader. I understand serving your God and serving the president are two different things. Obama is not asking for worship. Demi Moore isn't saying she is going to bow down to him. She is saying that she is going to do what he asks.

Aren't public officals servants? Public servants? It isn't like my congressman is going to bring me tea and crumpets anytime soon.

Just watched the video. I thought it was great to have so many celebrities pledge things like - helping to end hunger, having responsibility, volunteering, trying to be a great parent, looking after each other, to smile, to laugh and to represent our country with pride. Those are the terrible things in the video? If you listen carefully Demi Moore pledges to be a servant to our President AND OUR COUNTRY. Children need to hear messages like this.

I don't see how anyone could have a problem with the video. These same parents probably let their children watch Family Guy, South Park, R-Rated movies etc. Get serious.

As I said in my first post, I am not against the president making a PSA about volunteering or going green or anything like that. Its great. But, the video seems to focus on supporting Obama more than the focusing on the community service aspect. One can serve his or her country without supporting the president. The language of being a servant to the president is very inappropriate. Its fine to be OF SERVICE to ones country but being A SERVANT TO THE PRESIDENT is very disturbing to me. Had George Bush made a video asking kids to BE A SERVANT to the president, the left would have went nuts! And they would have a right to. Heck, I would be outraged if Bush had tried to pull a stunt like that. I just dont understand the double standard that if Obama says it, it must be ok.

I guess we just see it different. I don't see the sinister aspect of being a servant to one's country or one's president. If the president came to my house and asked my to do something for him, I would freak out (THe pres is in my house and it is messy) but then I would do it. I would then be serving the president.

Don't even get me started with Bush. LOL I think kids even thought he was a joke toward the end.

I think it just all boils down to what you consider a big deal. I was appalled when Clinton got his BJ from Monica. Did I think he needed to be impeached over it? Nope. But that is just me. Yes yes, I know it is about lying under oath. That is bad. But Reagan got to lie all he wanted about Iran Contra and let Ollie take the fall and that was ok. All he said was he didn't remember. In my opinion Iran Contra was waaaaaaaaaaaay worse than a bj. Or lying under oath. I just think it is silly that everyone tried to get clinton for so long and that is the best they came up with. Was it right? Nope. Do I condone it? Nope. Would I kick him out of office for it? Nope.

So, Obama wants to air a PSA that has wording in it that people don't like....I don't care. Sorry. Not gonna wreck my day. Not gonna keep me up at night. After all, if aliens came down and said "take me to your leader" who are you going to point them to? The sky and say God or the white house and obama?

And the others aren't thats the pot callin the kettle black if I ever heard it!! When has CNN or MSNBC ever said anything to question some of the things Mr. Wonderful is doing? Like him being on foriegn soil and bad mouthing our country or recently @ a town hall meeting planting a child(who's mother is well known to The Obamas due to campaign stuff) in the audience to ask questions written by adults? Please Fox should be applauded not condemned for bringing the TRUTH!!!! Just because somepeople choose to bury their heads in the sand and pretend all is well doesn't make it so!!
Oh and by the way my kids do choose their own reading materials. I was supprised when my son showed me what he was reading as unfortunatley it's usually stuff like Pokemon, or things he's assigned @ school. I try to let my kids choose for themselves when possible and since I read the book when my older child got it (after attn a tea party(his choice I didn't attend Im not into that stuff) the topics were fine imo so Im letting him read it!!
