I'm really not into politics so I may be wrong about this. I partially heard Obama was having a broadcast to kids and if you wanted your kid to have no part in it don't send them to school that day. I don't know what it's about, but I agree with a man that called in and said,DID HE FORGET WHAT COUNTRY WE'RE IN? Now the president is specifically broadcasting to kids in school. Another caller said as soon as he was elected he changed. Alot of people that supported him do not anymore. In my opinion, he will not be re-elected. I don't care if it was to Say hi, it didn't belong in the school room. |

The President is simply taping a Presidential address geared to public school children. It is simply a teaching tool that can be used by educators. The tape is viewed by the children and their teacher's can use the supplied lesson plans or activities. He isn't trying to "convert" anyone or force his opinions on anyone. I believe it is simply a lesson in government, or perhaps a welcome back to school with some "teachable moments" included. From what I understand Glen Beck and others have a problem with it - but they seem to have a problem with almost everything lately. What is wrong with our children listening to a Presidential speech? He is our President after all. Current events, government politics - all part of Social Studies. It is a lot better and more educational than most of the movies they show during classroom time. (When I was young I remember watching Presidential speeches or special news events on a television wheeled into the classroom or auditorium. Why is this so different? Perhaps the children will get involved in what is going on in the world today.) |

Absolutely true. We had to watch presidental speeches the whole time I was in school. Then we had tests on what we heard. I swear I think Nixon had more speeches than anyone. It seemed like at least once every 3-4 weeks we all had to go to the gym to watch him. We even had to hold mock elections in class. All of this was teaching us all the different branches of government and how they worked. Got to admit it was not as boring to watch it as it was to just read about it in the books. |

You said that you "partially heard" this, so the first thing is that you can't believe anything unless you know it is the truth. I have no problem with you not thinking he will be re-elected, because that is a few years from now and we have more concerns now with what is going on in the world. They took religion out of the schools - - now they are going to deprive children of listening to the President of the United States? I am not going to go on with this one - - just too upsetting! And, IMHO - IN MY HUMBLE OPINION - - I don't listen to anything says on Fox News if it has to do with our president! |

I loved the mock elections! I remember backing Anderson in the 1980 elections. Of course it was middle school and it didn't matter in reality, but our school took it serious and we had rallies and everything. It was cool to know why we liked our particular candidates. |

In the 70's a kid could not even watch TV in their own home without seeing the political mess of Nixon and Watergate. That trial went on for months. Every single day all day long every channel had the watergate hearings. I think every kid over 5 knew the president had to resign or be impeached even it they didn't know what impeached meant. I know that it sure had me confused. All I knew was that the president had done something really bad and was in deep trouble and because of that I couldn't watch "Gilligans Island" |

When people ask , "Did the President forget what country he is in?" because the President is speaking to school children? Why weren't the same people asking "What country is President Bush in?" when he lied to take us to war? When no bid contracts were given to Haliburton? When our surplus was turned into a deficit? When we were attacked on President Bush and VP Cheney's watch? |

Yes I remember presidential adresses in school but what I dont remember is anyone pledging to be a servant to the president in a video. Demi Moore and Ashton Cutcher made a video that is supposed to be played on the day Obama makes his adress. In the beginning of the video, they speak of volunteering and going green ect ect. That is not what I object to. But towards the end, one actor pledges to serve Obama and Demi and Ashton pledge to be a SERVANT to the president. This type of language should not be pushed upon impressionable young minds. I have provided a link to the video below. |

I still think it is hysterical....but us liberals have very dirty minds. |

I thought it was great to have so many celebrities pledge things like - helping to end hunger, having responsibility, volunteering, trying to be a great parent, looking after each other, to smile, to laugh and to represent our country with pride. Those are the terrible things in the video? If you listen carefully Demi Moore pledges to be a servant to our President AND OUR COUNTRY. Children need to hear messages like this. I don't see how anyone could have a problem with the video. These same parents probably let their children watch Family Guy, South Park, R-Rated movies etc. Get serious. |

Hey Wanna, |

Quote SndrElkins: Hey Wanna, this was on CBS news last night. And alot of parents where saying that they where NOT going to let there kids go to school on that day when he makes his speech.Did you watch? Edit to add~~~ They where talking about the schools in Charlotte. But I'm sure its going to be like that here in my home town. Hi Sandra! I swear things get more ridiculous every day or even every minute lately. What to heck is the big deal? Numerous presidents have spoken to students. Most of them have talked to the students in person even. The whole lesson plan speaks about students setting goals and increasing their educational achievement. The goal of the speech is to encourage students to set goals for themselves. We have a "30 percent" drop out rate in this country and Obama wants to try and reduce that. There is some historical precedent for presidents speaking to students in nationally televised addresses. President George H. W. Bush did so in 1991 and President Ronald Reagan even talked politics with students in 1988. The thing I am worried about is all the hate that the kids are being taught. It really worries me what goes through the minds of these kids when they see their parents fighting and screaming over politics and at the home town meetings. It can't be setting a good example for the kids. Worries me about the next generation and how they are learning to handle things they might not agree with in this country. |

I read that Obama's speech will be available on Monday Sept 7th for all to see online before the actual airing. Maybe after seeing what he is actually going to say, then we can discuss it. |
