Two anti-smoking drugs to carry mental-health warnings ....
The FDA said Chantix and Zyban will carry the warnings to alert consumers to the risks of depression and suicidal thoughts.
The drugs also have been said to cause changes in behavior, hostility and agitation in users. In many cases, side effects started shortly after use began.

Chantix drove me INSANE! I thought I was going to rip someone's head off! EEEEK!

I got a RX for chantix but haven't tried it yet.

Congrats to Dcorn and Plot..

If you don't mind Dcorn, or anyone else that may have tried it... can you tell me does it work, do you not have cravings anymore.

Hopefully the side effects are temporary but my Doc said it's one of the best prescriptions out there to aid in quiting smoking. Her suicide warning was very stern and she said if I have any remote feelings to call her and stop taking it right away.

I know that drug companies must disclose all side effects even if it happened to just one person.

Any info about it from a person that has tried it will be appreciated.

Thanks Rei

It really does work. The drug makes the cigs taste like garbage....UGH! So, yeah, you quit. But you have to be real strong when you go off of it, because the cravings come back.

Dreams are super vivid...which isn't all that bad.

But the anxiety comes with some people and the depression. As someone who already has problems with both, the depression was pretty much under control because I already take an antidepressant. But the anxiety....there is no way to describe it....like you want to just jump out of your skin.... and moody...I was very very moody.

The thing that made me quit though (taking it) was the nausea....I can stomach alot....except for the things I can't literally stomach.

Well, I just had my 14th year anniversary on JUNE 25th. I quit by gradually cutting back over a two month period where I was down to a carton of cigarettes in a 3 week period, once I got there I just quit COLD TURKEY w/no slips whatsoever. My husband however slipped several times and started back 6 years ago. Keep up the good work, ya'll.

Thanks for your reply Plot...I know I need to quit..high BP and I have been having chest pains lately..going for a stress test later this month. My kids are always doing plays for me about quiting. I know I have to quit!

It does give me concern about the side effects and I know that I have to want to quit, just not so sure I can do it on my own.

I suppose not trying it will keep me smoking, so now all I have to do is pick a quit date. I do hope that I am as strong about quiting as you apparently were.

Thanks again for the reply...going to the companys website wouldn't give me as candor of a reply.

I have been a clinical reasearch coordinator for years....schizophrenia, Bipolar, Cancer, solid tumor and hemotologic...I am married to a long time smoker , the symptoms you are referring to are really just withdrawal symptoms, not side effects from the drug. He tried to stop when he tuned 40 and then again at 45 two weeks ago. He is very athletic and in great shape... but my father , his father-in-law at 75 can run after cattle with more endurance than him. My husband is 45, 6 foot and weighs 195 , his Levis are 32 x34 but he hates it that smoking has so much control ver him. He is so hard to live with when he is not smoking (irritated, angry, moody) that I offer him cigarettes, I'll even go buy them! The behavioral changes are from withdrawal symptom in most cases.
