Here we go again, wasn't it just last week that a politician was crawling on bended knees asking to be forgiven for cheating on his wife and letting down his "constituents". Well, now today the missing governor of South Carolina, Governor Mark Sanford has admitted that he's been having an affair with a woman in Argentina. The Governor admitted to visiting her over Father's Day weekend. He also said he is going to resign as head of the Republican Governor's Association. Sanford is a rumored 2012 presidential candidate and he refused to say whether he will leave office. Visiting his mistress on Father's Day weekend, hmmmmmm. Maybe he is going to be like the ex-Democratic Senator who ran for president in 2008 and be passing out cigars soon. What do ya'll think? Think politicians think they are rock stars or something, does their big egos make them think that they owe NO ONE an explaination, or what???????????????????????????????

I just saw this & I was going to find that thread you started last week.

I don't know if the adultery rate is the same for politicians v. non-politicians, b/c if you're not in the public eye your affair - while disgusting - doesn't hit the papers. It does seem these guys, regardless of their political leanings, can't keep it in their pants.

I think their wives should divorce them & maybe start running for office rather than standing by their side at their press conferences! I don't agree with her politics usually, but I would vote for Elizabeth Edwards.

I think that a man in the public eye (wether politics, entertainment, whatever) has a certain amount of power that some women find alluring. Women are more agreeable to do things with him that they wouldn't do with him if he were an average Joe Blow...Look at Mick Jagger...eeek sooo not sexy to me.... I think it is easier for these guys to cheat. Look at John and Kate .... John might not have cheated (I don't really watch the show, but know he has been in the papers). This is just some ordinary guy. He gets on tv and his effability quotient increases.

Women who are married to these politicians are buying into the whole power thing too because they stay with the cheater pants. They want the prestige and life that comes with his position. Granted, I am sure there is love involved, but popularity always equals desire I think.

I think he may be in trouble for dereliction of duty - he left the states without any instructions for his staff. So, if that is proven he may be out as gov. Like w/Clinton, the actual affair is not going to get him in trouble, but Clinton lied under oath (a no-no) & this guy left the country w/little notice to anyone, also a no-no if you're a governor.

For most of these guys, their legal trouble comes not b/c of the affair, but in their efforts to cover it up

This particular politician LEFT his state without the LT. Governor being in charge, and seemingly no one being able to "get" in contact with him and being out of the country. Investigative reporters are now looking into allegations that he may have used "state" funds to fund his trips to South America.

I do agree he is wrong. and I do think he should step down but does it need to be all over every news channel when more important things are going on(NKorea for example)While the media uses this and other events to blind us what is really going on thats all im saying!!
