Quote cats meow: i have a question?? you have a great job, great benefits, a wonderful family, a nice house, living with in your means, things change where you work and you are laid off, your income is drastically reduced, your company gives you a nice severance pkg when you leave, you have a hard time finding a job, and i am not saying a $10/hr job, you still have all the expenses and things are beginning to get tight, what happens then? please tell me so i can pass that along to 3 very good friends, incidently they are all over 50, none of them have health insurance, do you have any advice? I'm a little confused by this...you started this thread, don't you have an opinion? Not trying to be offensive, but I just find it odd that you would pose a question and not state an opinion in a thread that you started by posting a vague opinion. Do you actually have a viewpoint on the subject or are you looking for others to give you one? Or perhaps it's just all about getting out a big giant spoon and stiring up a great big old pot? I personally, would never open a thread as controversial as this without having an opinion or facts to back it up. Not trying to start anything...was just curious because I really have a big problem with trouble makers! |

Cats i've been kind of wondering the same thing lately. that's why i'm not debating as much. you are very nice - a sweet person so please don't get me wrong. but i've seen lots of threads started up w/out a strong stance from you at times so i do get confused as to what your opinion is. the reason i don't jump in anymore is b/c i think most people know where i stand and i feel like some of the same things keep getting brought up. |

In my state you can get medical if you are low income or out of work(with kids) It's calles rite care(this is free depending on how much $ you make) and rite share(this one you pay for according to your pay) but they both include doc visits, and medication etc. But you can only see certain doc. on the list. I qualify but my boys have a specialist who isn't on the list and to continue going to him I'd have to pay the full price out of pocket. Right now I have the family plan for $80 every other week as well as $5for dental every ohter week. Yes I have copays but for teh service I get and monthly amount I pay I think it's worth it!!JMO!! |

Quote cats meow: ok, sorry i didn't respond earlier, had my MIL for the weekend for anyone that doesn't know where i stand on this issue, you might want to go back to page 1, and look at #5, #9, #11 then page 2, #13,#14, #20 just for the record.....i am 100% in favor of affordable or free health insurance for EVERY AMERICAN fyi, we have decent health insurance thru my husband's place of employment, do i think we pay way to much for what we get? he!! yes, but i am glad we have it, and i would be happy to help those who aren't so lucky, WITH HIGHER TAXES i hope that clears it up cool! i'm with you cats, i am in favor of this too. i have great insurance through my company but the stories of middle class families (anyone really) getting thrown under the bus when a child gets sick or themselves..breaks my heart. a medical situation can change everything. also medical issues can cause one to lose their job and in that case lose coverage too. and insurance is expensive and a trip to emergency room is even more so. there's got to be something to bridge the gap from those eligiable for medicad and insurance itself. |

I would be in favor of this as well, but I do have the big fear that some people will try to get unnessecary things done b/c they can. I guess I mean for lack of a better term those who get things like nose & boob jobs for no other reason than vanity and that I don't want to pay for. I wouldn't mind if someone was in an accident to restore them as best as can be done but to go and get something done just because you can is BS and if we go to gov't care who is to insure that those abuses of the system don't occur. |

it is my understanding most insurances will not cover cosmetic procedures, some teachers in this state, NY, do have riders in their coverage that at one time did cover these procedures, that is not available anymore, thank goodness, we regular folk were paying for all that stuff, now we have an opportunity to help others with real health problems |

none of us want to be scammed, however, we need to step up to the plate, just my very strong opinion |

The USA has had gov sponsored health care for years - the VA health care system. I recommend every one who is on favor of gov sponsored health care research how great the VA is doing under the gov, and all the law suits involved. I would feel different, maybe, if the gov had proven it is capable of providing us viable health coverage with adaquate doctors and facilities, but it has consistently proven the opposite. |

Quote cats meow: good news from crooks and liars Americans overwhelmingly support substantial changes to the health care system and are strongly behind one of the most contentious proposals Congress is considering, a government-run insurance plan to compete with private insurers, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll. The poll found that most Americans would be willing to pay higher taxes so everyone could have health insurance and that they said the government could do a better job of holding down health-care costs than the private sector. proud to say i am one of them I support this too, and just a quick reply to post #33 on this page, the type of health care in single payer or unioversal health care is not like what the millitary provides through the VA. It is what congress and the senate recieve, and tax payer pay for and it's GREAT!!! You should check out what they get! Most Americans do support a government universal coverage program for all citizens, unfortunatly Obama does not! What Obama supports is a crony corporate system run by the insurance and pharmacutical companies that would leave most people without adequate coverage, and the poorest with the least coverage. Obama is nothing more then a corporate democrat, who lied in order to get elected. |
