Some cities, towns in some states willnot send an application for residential building permits (new home construction). You have to personally pick it up in the town hall or county bldg dept so they can see who's asking!!! |

My county won't mail such permits to anything but a PO box b/c of mail theft out of regular mailboxes becoming a problem, or that's what they claim any way. I guess that's plausible b/c my mail has been taken before and I'm on a waiting list for a PO box. I'm not defending them by any means if profiling is their motivation. |

Quote raving: Quote BaileyBaby: Quote wannazach: This is not really an ethnic slur and maybe a little petty but it sure made my life hell as a child. I was the little red headed kid and in those days red heads where the center of teasing and bad jokes all the time. When I was little I can remember crying on the school bus while the others were singing a song "I'd rather be dead than red on the head". My mother-in-law was a red head & had apparently been teased about it b/c she used to say that if she had a red headed grandchild she was getting out the Clairol. I started writing that the red highlights in my daughter's hair were getting more prominent & joked to my daughter that I was going to put a red rinse on her hair before our next visit. I did not do it but of course my child told on me & I was in hot water with "Grandma" for quite a while. I have always thought red hair was lovely and we have a few on my side of the family, going back to our Norman/Viking line of ancestry. I also have some American Indian. It goes back to the late 1600's & early 1700's but there were two or more lines and it shows in me. I have always been inordinately proud of it. Hey Wanna... There really is no bad or worse slurs. It doesn't have to be racial to be a slur. I have a 1/2 brother & sister who were straight A students. Both of them had red hair that leaned toward orange. They were teased unmercifly in elementary school. They are a lot younger than me & boy did I get pizzed off at the kids who hurt them.... They say "sticks & stones" but words DO hurt! i have news for both of you....kids still tease the reds...the only people who ever compliment my daughters red hair are adults......kids still think its different in a bad way......they call her orange head...even though she is way auburn.......but you know what....I think she takes it a lot better than I would have.....she thinks it makes her who she is....and thats cool with me!...kids are just mean sometimes....you know being born a red head only occurs once in every 10,000 births? thats a cool thing to say about yourself! Tell her this from me...... When she gets to be middle age, unlike most of the women who have red/maroon hair at that age, at least hers will be natural. Everyone else will envy her.... Won't that be just-deserts!!!!! A Natural Red Head is a select few ........ |

Well, this isn't an ethnic slur but it is discrimination. Some states will no longer let UNMARRIED couples(this is a way for states to STOP gay couples from adopting because most straights can have their own)ADOPT CHILDREN. Of, course MOST STATES won't allow GAY COUPLES to even marry so if they can't afford a surrogate(in the case of men)they are you-know-what-out-of-LUCK. In the case of lesbians if they don't have a male friend or can't afford a "sperm" donor then they are ALSO you-know-what-out-of-LUCK. You would THINK with so MANY children in this country that NEED LOVING homes that things like this wouldn't happen. It really is a very sad day for all those beautiful children that could have otherwise been adopted IF it weren't for these RIDICULOUS STATE LAWS............................... |

I just cant believe people are still so fearful of what they dont understand.....stupid....I bet if you asked kids that grew up in foster care from a young age, would they want a happy family with two dads or two moms....or just stay moving through the system...they'd give the opposed the answer they fear the most! |
