They go after all the "injustices" that the "black man was accused of " but they also don't EVER recognize the "bad" that the black man does. ( as well as the white man, but they clearly don't care what the white man is accused of)

There are Plenty of white men that are "bad", But the Jacksons and the Sharptons are all over the discrimation act. Give me a break a criminal is a criminal .....no matter what his/her skin color is..

What about that college case where a Black girl accused six white men of rape...that case was heard and tried and they were found not guilty...but not before Jackson and Sharpton tried every trick in the book to make the white male students look guilty as hell. These men will forever live with that accusation. Can you imagine that on your record?

Niether Jackson or Sharpton apologised to the Six men!~

They just moved on to another cause.....

Its funny how you think you know what they want are you a black man in America? Your right a criminal is a criminal no matter their skin color but do you how it feels to be stereotype a criminal for the color of your skin? Okay they were wrong on that case of the case. But do you know how many innocent black males have went to jail for years for a crime they didn't committ. Those boys should feel lucky they got off. Do you think that the people wrongfully imprisioned get an apology or get the time back? How about NO!! I think Jackson and Sharpton try to bring light to the injustices that are faced everyday by black people that others think don't exsist or just chose to ignore. I just think people shouldn't judge unless they know how it is to be black in America or just a minority.

Sorry, should have finished reading the thread before I initially posted. Thanks for your input. Glad to know I don't have it wrong.

Let me know if my usage of "black" is offensive. Many of my friends don't care, but I know vernacular is important to some...I really don't want to offend.

With that said, I think I can understand a bit of Rev Wright based upon his heritage. I am ot black, but it is my understanding that many of his rants were in reference to the black man being stolen out of his original country and sent here to be sold as slaves. To further add to this insult once they were free they were still not, and to this day not, treated equally. That is why the "GDamn america" statements were made. Background does help. Please correct me if I am wrong. I don't like to read links, I tend to trust people when they say something. Plot I am not quoting any website...and after you read my post it certainly will be clear that I didn't.

Slavery is long gone...me nor my grandparents or my great great grandparents ever owned a slave. Not sure if black people were slaves in Ireland, but I do know that the Irish were made slaves by the English. We have come a long way baby!

Time has changed and there are many opportunities for everyone..and this may pi** off some, but afirmative action gave many many opportunities for the black people of this country..mainly in the form of education and job opportunities.

For The Reverend Wright to say what he did about this country (he made alot of cash BTW doing what he does) is only perpetuating a excuse for people to not live up to all they can be. There are so many black people that have made huge successes of their lives..wouldn't it be better for him to point out the successes?

(do I really need to say thet this is "my opinion only" ? )

IMO this is a forum, so everything is our opinion.

Slavery is long gone. We have come a long way. Affirmative action did help people. Schools are no longer segregated. However, if you think that racism doesn't exist, then you need glasses (said not with malice). Racism is everywhere and in pretty much everyone. Everyone can say that they have a black friend....as I do, but I don't know what they face on a daily basis. I have been shopping and had customer cops follow us. I have been in a car with them and been pulled over for no reason. I live in the north too! Stereotypes are everywhere. Not just black people, but Asian also. I was in the car with another friend and some driver is yakking away about riceburners and all sorts of other crap.

I don't think it was a disservice to his country (Wright) again, he has experienced a different reality than you or I. I don't knock him for getting paid....part of his job is public speaking. He isn't trying to get his congregation to sit on their buts and collect welfare. He is trying to empower them to accept and embrace their heritage and let them know that it is ok to be angry and forgiveness is divine. I know that this all sounds so very liberal and whitebread (did I spell that right? looks like I am calling myself a loaf of bread) but I really feel that is what his intent is. Same as Jesse Jackson, MLK, Sharpton, and the rest. They can come off as whack jobs, but their overall misson is clear to me. They want equality and while we have come along way, we have a long road to travel.

I also understand about your Irish decent. I am Native American and Polish....Neither one was treated fairly by this great country. Especially my native American heritage which has pretty much been extinguished. I wont get into that, but these two have really been raked over the coals. But nowhere near as much as the African decendants.

OK I really am going to bed now....tomorrow .....

Then you should go to my son's school. Last year another kid kept picking on my son and giving hi, grief and calling him rude names(about his orientation) after a week of this when he did it again and put his hands on my son, my son put him in a headlock and punched him in the face. This kid goes home and tells his daddy that mine called him teh N word(which he did not- he's not perfect but he isn't like that either)this kids dad waited @ my childs bus stop and threatened to put his boot up my kids butt! My son came home in tears! and when he got to school the only one to get in trouble was my son! so you are wrong! IMO!! where I live all a kid has to do is scream he/she called me the N word and the kids who supposedly say it are in trouble! Yet it's okay to tease other kids and call them Gay, to make fun of their weight and so many other things! It's a crock!! IMO!! Im still mad about this 2 years later!!

OK...I don't mean to be rude...but what do you mean by orientation? I can be dim sometimes...lol I didn't get the memorial day joke with Barak seeing dead people (you had to be there...REI got me)

It appears that you have two issues going on. One, I think (again this comes from experience with schools nothing else) that the person who gets in trouble is the person who hit first. I don't know what you mean when you say "put his hands on" but I do know headlock and punch in the face.

Second, That dad was wrong. Plain and simple. He can be as angry as he wants, but to threaten a child is wrong. I don't know how old these kids are, but to me that is actionable.

I can understand your anger and frustration. Schools are trying to enforce (most schools) a no bully system. But to me that is difficult because there can be so much he said she said. To me, calling someone a homosexual slur is almost the same as the N word. I say almost because I feel the N word belongs to black people. White people may have created it but it is a hurtful word. Black people have embraced it and made it theirs and if they want to use it they can.

Bullying with kids of any color is difficult to control. The N word holds power. It is a trigger word. Just like someday calling a gay person the F word will be hopefully.

Sorry about your son though....That father should never have confronted him. He should have talked with you.

There are just as many innocent white, asian, purple, green, and blue too! that get wrongly convicted! who's championing them? People shouldn't judge ANYONE!!!
These 2 men are fame seekers nothing more nothing less! They make their living off the backs of these people they are trying to Save!!! they are just as bad if not worse! When I see them on my Tv I change the channel! If I want to watch fake tv, I'll watch a reality show!! JMO

Yes, there are many other people that are wrongly convicted. I never said differently. My point was that many of these men in prison are black, got unfair sentances even if they were guilty. And that is because of prejudice. No people shouldn't be racist. But they are. and what J and S try to do is bring these instances to light. They do provide a service to the country. Many black people look up to them. Many white people learn from them. It is ok if you don't like them and turn the channel. I do too sometimes. I love reality tv.

Look, I am not saying that these men are perfect. I am not saying that all black men in prison are innocent. I am saying that being a black person in America is WAAAAAY different than being a white person in America and not in a good way.

Has anyone stopped to think that perhaps because of the Cosby's and the Sharpton's and the Jackson's of this world, more and more black youth are applying themselves more, getting into colleges on their own merit and making something of themselves? And what are our white youth doing? being entitled spoiled brats. I have two. I live in a middle class neighborhood. These kids I see have no drive, no zest, no anything. They don't have the concept of working for anything. I have to fight daily to get my 6th grader to do the simplest things because his friends don't have chores. It is crazy!

The school had no problem with punishing my kid and called it a civil rights issue and my hubby and I were like he called him Gay,& they called him an F** and they said he's not right, so it shouldn't bother him! I still get so mad cause my kid didn't say anything(this kid admitted it he lied so his dad wouldn't get mad for him getting his butt kicked!) But still wouldn't come clean @ home or school and denied admitting it was a lie! The father never said a word to us. The school wouldn't even give his name!

And Plot I think Bill Cosby would be pi$$ed to be grouped with those 2! They are nothing alike! Bill has worked hard for what he has on his own! Not @ others expense! (JMO)

I really apologize for bringing out this hostility. The F word is not "my" word. So, is your son gay? And the school said he isn't gay so being called that shouldn't bother him? But he still is gay after 2 years or he is still getting bullied after 2 years?

I am sorry that your son was picked on, or is picked on. I am not trying to make a case that white kids should be picked on by black kids...that is not my point at all. But what your son is going through is what black kids have been going through for years and years. It isn't right. Now that white kids are starting to get picked on (and it isn't right) everyone is all "be fair" up in arms. But the past cannot be forgotten that easily. My hope is that with each generation the hatred will dissipate and eventually be gone.

( but it's okay for certain groups to call whites crackers and we shouldn't be offended right?)

Bullying with kids of any color is difficult to control. The N word holds power. It is a trigger word. Just like someday calling a gay person the F word will be hopefully.

Sorry about your son though....That father should never have confronted him. He should have talked with you.

He hit him in the face. He was calling him gay including your F word in that too(still is by the way 2 years later. My son skipped a school trip because of this kid and his friends!

He isn't gay!! Thats why they said it shouldn't bother him! but 2 years later this kid and kid friends still live to make him misserable, they have told lies and made him look bad he was even searched when one said he has a knife on him(my kid isn't that stupid and knows his dads wrath) the school did apologize for that and the boy was punished. for once!
I see this differently I am from Maine originally and when I moved here(I was 10) I was picked on from my skin color(Im am so light that when I burn I look like a lobster)the kids here are portuguese(or a large majority), I got picked on for everything! My accent, my glasses my weight! Everything! When I got married to a portuguese man for some reason I thought our kids would have it better! I get what your saying but where I live everyone is fair game!!

If it seems really out there I might ask for a link, but really, I prefer to talk not trade websites.

I am so sorry I can hear the frustration in your post. So many people think that words don't hurt but they are worse than physical punches. So much of what you are describing is bullying plain and simple.

Imagine what you would feel like if your entire family heritage had that bullying passed down by others. Think of how mad you are now....wouldn't you feel beaten down? wouldn't you want someone (maybe not J and S, but someone who understood your oppression) to come and give you support and help you?

Plot my heritage is Native Ameirican(too bad I don't get their tan!!) Irish sccottish and english. My family came over around the time of the Mayflower(it was traced) as indentured servents. when some where freed they "mixed with the natives"(thats how my parents say it). So I fully understand what you are saying about being beaten down and how it affects you, as did my mom and her whole family which when she was a child were considered poor white trash (as well as many other mean and cruel words)! to judge others with out hearing them IMO is wrong! Many people are discriminated against! and it isn't always about their color!! Thats all i'm saying!

I am Native American also. It saddens me that the stereotypes about my heritage are out there. It saddens me that the customs I would have love to have handed down have been pretty much extinguished. Our people have been relegated to reservations. I will not hijack this thread with that though I promise!

There is discrimination everywhere. In a way the world is one big high school with everyone picking on everyone else. But I don't see people pulled over for being Native American. I don't see Scottish people brought in for questioning because "they all look alike". I am not saying that all blacks are fantastic. All whites are not fantastic. No race is superior. But whites used to burn crosses on lawns and they still do! People burn black churches! It is crazy! Lynchings and mobs it is ridiculous. The Aryan movement and such needs to be eliminated before we can even discuss racial equality. Then we wont need the Sharptons and the Jacksons....see how nicely I brought that back to topic LOL

On this I agree with you completley 1st paragraph). Where I live(my town, and state) over 1/2 of the cops are black(is that politically correct)as well as other minorities. I always get nervous I'll say it wrong) things like that don't happen here! Unfortunatley our area has more problems with shootings and drug related issues as well as minors drinking, and illegal aliens! Im glad I live here I guess because the stuff you are talking about I have only seen on tv. I would hate to raise my kids like that!

That is soo not true.... Wright was NEVER a slave, but he makes a majority of his living harping on it. I personally like Bill Cosby's take on the matter... Get up off your ass and make something of yourself...Not a quote, but pretty close...

What isn't true? I didn't say that he was a slave...I said that he experienced a different reality than you or I. Slavery is something our country did. Why can some people be proud of their heritage in terms of coming over on the Mayflower or being a descendant of royalty or being related in thier family tree to a historic figure and they can continually talk about it, bear their family crest etc, but blacks are supposed to forget that their ancestors were slaves? Does that really make sense? Why should a black person have to look at the confederate flag all of the time and be reminded that their ancestors were slaves and part of the country fought to keep them that way?

I like Bill Cosby too. But J and S don't embrace the "poor me" they, like Cosby want our youth of color to get up and get moving. J and S are activists. Cosby is a comedian and public speaker. There is a difference.

Plot I had to read and re-read this post several times and for the life of me I can't reall what I was calling soo untrue. Sorry if I came off being harsh also. I think I'll stay away from the race issue's...I don't want to come off as something that I am not.

You must live in pleasantville USA if discrimination doesn't happen where you live, Because it happens everywhere! People just think because it doesn't to them then it doesn't exsist. It happens in the richest neigborhoods all the way down to the poorest neighborhoods and in between. Yes you might think Sharpton and Jackson are trying to play the victim card. But I think you would be singing another tune if you or your family were suffering!
