President Barack Obama picked a Republican congressmen to be the next secretary of the Army Tuesday, bringing another member of the opposition into his administration's fold.

Obama said New York Rep. John McHugh is "committed to keeping America's Army the best trained the best equipped, the best land force the world has ever seen."

once again obama has picked the right person for the job, i am going to go out on a limb here, i am guessing he is a white male, wonder if any republicians will be complaining about him

Why do you say he is the best person for the job? Simply b/c Obama picked him?

I am sure Mr. McHugh will have his work cut out for him attempting to keep "America's Army the best trained the best equipped, the best land force the world has ever seen" while Obama guts the defense budget.

I don't give a flying fig that Obama selected a Republican as Secretary of the Army (I mean seriously, what do the Democrats know about the army anyway other than how to defund it). Let him nominate a few pro-life judges to the bench & I'll give him props.

I would read the article you are quoting but there is no link.

Whoever wrote the article you quoted clearly thinks Obama deserves some sort of applause for asking a Republican to serve as Secretary of the Army...I think that's absurd.

I also never assume someone is the best possible pick for any position until I read about that individual for myself, whether they are a Dem, Rep, & regardless of who appointed them.

And finally, from what I have read thus far this guy is a major player in the House & I think I'd rather have him there. It is not uncommon for presidents to nominate Senate & House members to administrative positions...to get them out of the Senate & the House.

I suppose it is frustrating b/c I can't read what you're quoting...and no, I didn't say Dem presidents ask Senate & House members to serve in their administration to get them out of the Senate & House, I said presidents do this...they've all done it. It seems this guy was a mover in the House.

I also despise the notion that asking this guy to be Secretary of the Army is some sort of bipartisan triumph...please!

HAHAHAHA!!! Cats! SOSDD! Why is it that no thread can be discussed without bringing up abortion? I know!!! IMO that is the only thing that the party has left to cling to. I hope all the pro-lifers will take a GOOD look at my avi and head to the local orphanage TOMORROW!!! Imo if you people are gonna spout pro-life every time the wind blows then there is NO, NONE, ZIPPO reason for them not to have an adopteted child in their home PRONTO!!! SO whenever a prolifer wants to share some pictures of their older and handicapped adopted children I would absolutley LOVE to see them and I will give them a HUGE heart felt thank you for putting their actions where their mouths are! Come people give me a chance to be proud of you!!!! If all pro-lifers head out to adopt at least one of the unwanted children tomorrow then the world will be a better place.

I just love the fact that Cheney is now PRO gay marriage!!! That has to sting.

I have tried to researhc this guy, and have mixed emotionas about what little I have found. There is so little about him out there, other than the fact he is a moderate conservative. I could barely even find his military experiance! Here is why I don't yet know how to feel about him:
1. Every one seems to agree he is the right guy, no contraversy whatsoever. Whenever EVERYONE agrees on a person, I am not comfortable. There is a reason the left and right are separate groups. Why has no contraversial info been drug out about him? At least some people should be unhappy and voisterous about Obama's choice here.
2. Yay!!!!! Finally a pick with no contraversy!

I should be happy, right? I just can't seem to be, though, with so little info out there on him. Does any one else have any concrete info they can share? Because I am worried when all of the gov agrees on something...
