What seems odd to me is all the people that kill abortion drs. are white men. As far as I know other than being pro life and demonstrating they have had no real personal experiences w/ abortion.
One of my husband's friends got a girl pregnant and they were planning to have the baby and get married, she had an abortion previously. She got scared and went to a clinic and had another. Fish was angry and he held her responsible not the Dr.. It took all he could do to keep his composer. This is a guy I normally think wouldn't hurt a fly but he wasn't even sure he wouldn't hurt her. But the Dr. never even entered the cross hairs.

these doctors provide many services for their patients, abortion is only a part of their practice, what if this moron had hit more people? dr. slepian was in his kitchen, what if one of his kids had been hit? what i find so interesting is, if they think it is ok in the eyes of God, why the he!! do they run

Dr. Tiller has been shot before...I believe in the arm. There are guards, security, etc. at his clinic. It makes sense that he'd be shot at church, from the perspective of the shooter. It is the optimal place to try & shoot someone, whether you have a specific target or just want to kill several people at once.

Churches & schools are often the sight of shootings b/c they are 'gun free' zones. Even people with a concealed carry permit cannot legally take a gun into a church or a school. If you are looking to shoot someone, or shoot a large number of people, the two places you are going to meet the least resistance are in a church or a school b/c law abiding citizens won't be carrying guns.

As far as why men are usually the ones who shoot abortion providers...I don't know exactly. In the whole abortion debate, where do men fit in? I would imagine it's a frightening thought that the mother of your child can legally abort the child without your consent. Of course, one solution is to not impregnate a woman unless you're aware of her stance on abortion, but that is not always a discussion that preceeds sex.

This poor guy nobody deserves to be gunned down in front of their family! This is truly sad I believe their are appropiate times for abortion. And that it is a womans choice to do what she feels is best.

this doctor committed no crimes, the shooter certainly did, and others could have been killed as well

a little history

HISTORY OF VIOLENCE/Murders and Shootings

Anti-abortion extremists perpetrated an unprecedented level of violence in 1993 with the first murder of an abortion provider. Dr. David Gunn was shot and killed by a zealot in Pensacola, FL. Since that time, anti-abortion extremists have murdered or attempted to murder numerous other individuals who were involved in reproductive health care.

A chronology of abortion related murders and shootings follows.
DATE STATE/PROVINCE/TERR. CASE STATUS
10/1998 New York Dr. Barnett Slepian was shot and killed in his home in Amherst, New York. James Kopp was convicted of second-degree murder in state court and received the maximum sentence of twenty-five years to life in prison. He was also convicted and sentenced to life on federal charges of violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act.
1/1998 Alabama Officer Robert Sanderson was killed during a clinic bombing in Birmingham, AL. Emily Lyons, a nurse at the clinic was severely injured in the blast. Eric Robert Rudolph pled guilty and is serving a life sentence for the bombings at Olympic Park, a gay bar, and two abortion clinics including the Birmingham clinic.
11/1997 Manitoba Dr. Jack Fainman was shot and injured in his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba. James Kopp is a suspect in the shooting.
10/1997 New York An unnamed physician was shot at in his home in Rochester, New York. James Kopp is a suspect in the shooting.
11/1995 Ontario Dr. Hugh Short was shot and injured in his home in Ancaster, Ontario. James Kopp has been charged with attempted murder in the shooting.
12/1994 Massachusetts Shannon Lowney and Leanne Nichols were shot and killed by John Salvi at two clinics in Brookline, Massachusetts. Five others were injured in the attacks. Salvi was sentenced to two life terms but committed suicide in prison in November 1996

No, you should care. His shooter broke the law & he should be punished. Yes, I find what this doctor did daily to be reprehensible, but *most* of it was legal (I say that b/c he performed many late term abortions that were highly questionable). You should seek to change the laws that allow for legal abortion, not advocate breaking existing laws against murder & feel justified b/c you believe Dr. Tiller was a murderer.

ITA with EJ. Murdering a full grown person no matter their sins is illegal ( unless we're talking self defense or capital punishment) and currently abortion is legal. Murder in the name of the pro-life movement is a mockery of the movement itself. Always remember though if you were born after Roe/Wade you're an abortion survivor.

I didn't say the guy who did it was right! Of course it's wrong to MURDER people! I just have a hard time finding sympathy for a man who took lives every day! Thats all I meant I should have been more specific I guess! I do feel for his family though and that I did say!!

Quote alwaysEJ: Church, like the mother's womb, is a place where an individual should always feel safe.

Murder is always sad & tragic. May the Lord have mercy on Dr. Tiller's soul.

Too bad this doctor didn't agree with that!!

On a side note Ronald Reagan once said " I have noticed that all the people who are for abortion have already been born" He really was a smart man!! They have it as FLAIR on facebook!

Regardless of what you believe, this man was still wrong!! Would you shoot a defense lawyer just because you didn't agree with the case he was defending? How would you feel if this were your husband or father? You don't have to agree with some one's career choice, that's fine, but how unethical is it to say that it's good that he was murdered in cold blood?

I didn't say it was good! Of course this guy was wrong! I don't condone murder! BY ANYONE! I'm sorry I just have a hard time feeling sympathy for this man! For his family yes!! Basiclly as I see it he murdered people everyday and no one mentions them! I do agree that the guy who shot him should be punished to the full extent of the law and if he spends the rest of his life behind bars, so be it! Thats what should happen when you murder people in cold blood!!!

I saw it after I ansewred the last one! . Im sorry that my first post came across so harsh. I work a 12 hour o/n and then had to sit through a 3 hour mtg. I was really tired when I got home as you can see I wasn't on long yesterday(if you look through teh posts). I had heard about the shooting on the Today show while @ work. and when I came on when I got home to see if anyone had wrote acbout it. and it kind of struck me that while everyone was so upset over this crime no one seemed to phased by what his job is(was).
