Quote cats meow: this absolutely takes the cake!!! now i have heard everything, i was listening to talk radio, ed schultz, he is on opposite rush, anyway, this listener called in and gave his reason for not confirming sotomayor, are you ready....... she is catholic, they already have 6 catholics on the sc so this would make it more unbalanced than it already is, how can to reasonably talk to someone like that?? i guess it's a good thing i wasn't interested in being a talk show host Actually, if she was selected b/c she is a woman (only one currently on the S.C.), & she was selected b/c she is Hispanic (currently 0 on the S.C), then clearly Obama is looking not only for a good justice, but one who brings 'diversity' to the court...so the argument that she is Catholic is not invalid, considering there are lots o Catholics currently on the S.C. I don't really care if they are all Catholic, white, men, whatever...but clearly Obama does since he brought diversity into the equation when selecting her, so why not aim for religious diversity on the court? We need a Muslim, an atheist, etc...do we not? If someone claims to seek diversity, that cannot be limited to gender & race. Religious diversity should also be considered important. It would be nice if the most qualified were seated on the court, regardless of anything else, but that is too much to ask it seems. Who cares about upholding the Constitution when there are racial quotas to be met? Granted, her 'Catholic' views are likely not very similar to those of Scalia or Thomas much like Ann Coulter & Ted Kennedy are both 'Catholic.' |

EJ, honestly, if obama would have selected a muslim, rush, o'reilly and everyone on fox would have had a field day, please..... most people on the right will hate anyone obama picks, just a fact of life |

Quote cats meow: EJ, honestly, if obama would have selected a muslim, rush, o'reilly and everyone on fox would have had a field day, please..... most people on the right will hate anyone obama picks, just a fact of life That's not my point. The point is, if he is looking to inject diversity to the S.C., then the fact that he selected a Catholic when there are already a number of Catholics on the court is a valid point. I don't think diversity should be part of the equation at all when selecting S.C. justices, but Obama does by his own admission. Apparently diversity for him is limited to gender & race. I wouldn't care if he selected a transgendered atheist from Mars if that individual had a solid understanding of the role of a S.C. justice. Based on her past rulings (one of which is about to be overturned by the S.C.) & several public statements she has made, I don't think Sotomayor has a grasp on the role of an appellate judge. |

if you really mean that about not caring who he would appoint if you thought they were qualified, i believe you are in the minority of your fellow republicians, you have to admit, anyone on the talk show circuit would never agree with his pick, i applaud you for being sensible |

Quote cats meow: if you really mean that about not caring who he would appoint if you thought they were qualified, i believe you are in the minority of your fellow republicians, you have to admit, anyone on the talk show circuit would never agree with his pick, i applaud you for being sensible While in college at UT in Austin, a transgendered female (Leslie) ran for public office. I was all for it (side note, I was very conservative at that liberal school). At first she made some sense, then her schizophrenia got in the way (she was homeless as well)...not trying to be funny, just telling you some conservatives actually can be very open minded, just like some liberals. I still hope she turns out to be a strong opponent to some strong conservatives. We need all the sensible qualified interpreters we can get so no more thieves can sue the homeowners when they get cut by a knife they were trying to steal, or like that farm owner in TX? who had to give up his massive farm to illegal aliens b/c he turned a gun on them and did not let them openly trek through his farm on the way to their American dream... Yes, I do hold out massive hope our SC new judge pans out. |

Quote StL Cardinal Fan: Internet Powerhouse Andy Martin on the "Secret Life of Sonia Sotomayor" This should stir the pot......Go Andy!! www.contrariancommentary.blogspot.com/ i read the article, i did not read actual facts of any kind, did i miss something? and i if that is what her detractors are coming up with, it is hysterical |

Quote rei1: I think if she is Gay will have no bearing on her being appointed... I have to say that I thought I heard that she is against abortion...that is a major topic the Dems have to deal with! That to me is more important! rei - I don't believe she has ruled in many abortion cases, but I am certain Obama would never nominate someone who is anything other than staunchly pro-choice. Like night leads to day, liberal judicial appointees believe the 'right' of women to abort their unborn children always trumps the child's right to life. |
