I also agree with all of you. No one knows the pain a person is in to the degree that they themselves do. I watched my grandmother literally die from starvation. She had the papers signed to not do anything to keep her alive. She requested no feeding tubes or IV's of any kind. She was just a small pile of bones when she finally went. She did not even know anything the last couple weeks she was at the hospital. No one should ever go through that if they don't wish too. I know that I would not want to. I have admiration for doctors who care enough to help the terminally ill end their suffering should they wish. This is not done in an evil way rather in a caring way. No doctor is out there just killing people for kicks but rather out of compassion. Imo it should be legal in all states as long as it is requested from the patient who is competent.

Amen, Sister. When Grandmother was sick I had no problem with her being on a feeding tube b/c I think starving some one is inhumane and disgusting, but I would have pulled the plug myself on a ventilator or other apparatus to assist heart & lung function.
I think there should be a spot on the Living Will form for assisted suicide. It should have stipulations like:
1. can be proven competent at the time
2. Have to have a second opinion

I agree these measures must be taken. If deemed competent and of sound mind, and they are legally witnessed by somone who does not finatially gain from the act (like a lawyer or notary), then there should be no problem lending them mercy.
