Our nephew is a Sgt in the Marines. He is a career man. He has been to Iraq, now home for awhile. In November he will go to Afghanstan. Another year of fear for the family. |

He may be a Marine Sgt. but he is still that little boy.......... I know what you mean- my nephew was the commanding officer of the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment-who was accused unjustly in the Haditha Massacre Hoax- four years later he is still being persecuted for a massacre that never took place-I still remember that little mop haired boy sniffing his blankie and calling me aunt fusue- Jeffrey's integrity is beyond reproach, his military record exemplary -he was on the fast track to becoming a general- that has all been taken from him now- that the charges were false makes no difference- his career is over- I wish your nephew good luck and pray for his safety-- |

I hope he and his commrades triumph in the end! Our politicians that we elect to Congress are responsible for that fiasco! They send our men and women in to do an impossible job, with little protection, and if it is not done to their expectations, it becomes fodder to use in a political game! We should never allow our troops to be used in that fashion by anyone in the government! Shame on every politician who has used and abused troops to further their rotten careers! |

Hope you don't mind my sharing this poem I wrote, which was 30 years in the making. I penned the first four lines in the early 70's when the Vietnam War was in full swing, and finally finished the poem in January 2003. |

Quote HOT PINK: Hope you don't mind my sharing this poem I wrote, which was 30 years in the making. I penned the first four lines in the early 70's when the Vietnam War was in full swing, and finally finished the poem in January 2003. A Soldier’s Song As I sit in the darkness softly singing my song, I know this peace won't be here long. Soon guns and cannons will be firing our way. Signaling the beginning of another day. Sometimes I wonder how I came to be here. Sometimes I wonder if I can control my fear. The people we are fighting are strangers to me. I don't who they are or who they profess to be. When I fire my gun and hear someone scream, I feel as though it's happening in a dream. My heart grows heavier with each passing day. And I know my fellow soldiers feel the same way. We can't talk about our feelings so we express them in song. While outwardly, we do our best to be proud and strong. Maybe one day all of this fighting will end. Maybe one day we can call one another friend. But, as Momma says, "Ours is not to wonder why." And, maybe this won't be the day that I die. I'll do my duty despite my fear and pain. And, hopefully, tonight I’ll sing my song once again. ************************************************************ For years I wore a POW bracelet for Col. William Mason, who was captured in Vietnam on May 22, 1968. I was wearing that bracelet when I started my poem; and, though that bracelet was lost during one of my many moves, I still think of Col. Mason often and always remember him on Memorial Day. May God Bless all of our brave soldiers and bring them all safely. And, May God Bless all of the souls of the men and women who lost their lives fighting for their country and for what they believed in. So moving..... So Beautifully Said. |
