Doesn't matter what age we live in! I agree with my Bishop and applaud him as well for standing up for what he believes in! I respect your opinion and understand why you feel that way, but I respectivley agree to disagree! |

Quote bigtimesoapfan: As a wise bishop recently said "We don't see it as a civil rights issue, because there is never a right to do something that is Morally wrong! Bishop Thomas Tobin It was once considered morally acceptable to own slaves. It was once considered morally acceptable to rape a woman as long as you married her afterwards. It was once considered morally acceptable to stone a woman to death for adultry...even if she was raped! It was once morally acceptable to sacrifice a child to god. And all of these things are in the bible!!! Plus there are plenty of people who claim to be moral, and are totally reprehensible human beings. I instead believe in ethics, and it is unethical to deny a citizen of this country the same rights that other citizens receive! |

I know I will probably start something but I have to say I am so sick of hearing about this story!! Yes she did lungerie and nude pictures!! But that is her business!! What does it matter just because this is a beauty pageant!! She did it get over it!! Beauty Pageant might as well be lungerie stuff to so get off of it already!! If the judges did the same thing it is all fine and dandy and just like actors/actresses they get away with everything and heaven forbid a Citizen of the USA to do that we get trampled over!! Look what happened with Nicole Ritchie and Paris Hilton they were supposed to be serving a certain amount of time and they might as well got a slap on the wrist for it!! |

Quote Plot-Twister: Oh, and about Vanessa Williams....yes, she became super famous...but remember....she actually WON! LOL And I think it is sad that Miss Cali is upstaging the real winner and taking her thunder. Miss Cali should have her crown removed because of the pics. I don't care if she is right or not about it being payback. The fact is, she took the pics. She lied saying there was only one. And it is against the rules of the contest. If Vanessa Williams had her crown ripped off her head, what makes Miss Cali better than her? I'd be surprised if Miss Cali DIDN'T lose her runner-up status (and based on the pictures, I believe she SHOULD lose her status), but at the end of the day, she's already famous and will likely be more famous than the actual winner. I don't care one bit what happens in a beauty pageant, but I think its sad that this girl can't be left alone. She made a decision to answer based on her beliefs and knew she'd lose her crown. I give her props for standing for what she believes. Most people would have given a politically correct answer just to win the almighty prize. |

Granted, they parade them around in tiny bikinis, so I've never understood the pageants' objection to nude photos, but it's the rule & she knew about it before entering the pageant. I believe they sign something stating that they've never taken such photos. I just don't care much for pageants either, but I do care about free speech & I believe she has been put through the ringer for exercising hers when she must've been tempted to give a politically correct answer, knowing the venom that would come her way from the media (& the totally classless judge who asked the question). |

Quote Plot-Twister: Quote cardgirl: Quote Plot-Twister: Actually, all of the contestants for the past two pagents have been asked different questions than the typical "no more world hunger" type of thing. I don't think it was out of line at all considering the other types of questions that were asked....like the AIG bail out and the auto industry. The pagent is trying to remake itself into a more modern woman type of thing. Gone is the ton of hairspray and such...they want real women looking real. Now, with all that said.....Yes, she was honest. And honestly when someone says, "I don't mean to offend" Well, they know they are about to offend. Miss America is supposed to represent America. She is supposed to be full of grace and concientous of all of it's citizens. There were other ways in which she could have handled that question and still held grace and dignity. She simply could have said that Miss America is not a position which makes laws, therefore, her personal beliefs were irrelevant. It isn't like she was going to make that her platform. And if she was, she would have been canned. Pagent winners are not allowed to take on controversial subjects like that. In fact, since she has become a public face of "protecting marriage" she should rescind her runner up position. Pagents are not political. If that is what she wants, then give back the runner up and do it. Bad enough she has taken all the thunder from the actual winner. I like the winner, not the whiner. Well actually it was the press and their ability to make sound bites that made her sound like a whinner. And it was a gay person who asked her the question. Pehaps he thought he was going to get another answer because he is openly gay. It took a lot of guts to answer that question hosnestly and she is entitled to her opinion regardless of whether it may offend somebody.. these days hardly anybody can say anything that does not in some way offend somebody else. I thind people are allowe to choose how they want to live their lives, and people have the right not to agree with how they choose to do that. She has a right to express her opinion. Why should she lie just get the crown. And if that was the reason she did loose the contest, well, freedom of speech is one of our primary rights in this country, and she should not have been dragged though the mud because she expressed herself honestly. I also think it was a double standard.... it was not alright for her to say that she thinks marriage should be between a man and a women... but it was alright for the guy who asked her the question to call her a stupid b.....because he did not like her answer. If nothing else he should have taken the high road, and responded in a more respectful way. She was not disrespecting him... she was simply answering a loaded question. Perez Hilton didn't call her a stupid(w)itch until after she took on the role of advocating against same sex marriages. After the pictures came out of her nude and partially nude. It was not the initial answer which made him call her that. Just as everyone is saying that she had the right to answer the question as she did (I am not denying that right) he has the right to respond. Just please note that he did not call her that because of the answer, it was the behavior after. Second, If a woman really wants the crown (and going through YEARS of prep, they want to win it, why throw it away with an answer that is not well thought out? Like I said before, there are tons of ways to answer that are not timebombs. Why should she answer politically sensitively? Well, she represents ALL of the US, not just people who agree with her. The jusdges represent a cross section of the American population. There are tons of gay men on the pagent circut as coaches, hair and makeup, etc...I wonder if they knew that she viewed them as beneath her when they were helping her win? Well, actually I just went back and look at my DVR and when the story broke on Inside Edition and Hollywood Insider, and one other show, he did make that response, of calling her a stupid b.... after she answers the question about same sex marriage... he had a different response still inappropriate...to her nude pics.. I will say that those pics if they did happen the way the press reports it...that was really some very poor judgement on her part... and does make her response... which was a morality one...kind of hypocritical... I guess she may not have as strong of a feeling about public nudity as she does same sex marriage. Funny how people pick and choose what they think is right and what they think is wrong. Also I don't think just because she does not agree with same sex marriage.. that means she thinks gay people are beneath her... This is just one of those issues where people have to agree to disagree.. I personally don't care how other people choose to lives their lives or what their sexuall orientation is. I just don't think that people who are gay should take such offense and be outraged when people say they don't agree with how they live their lives or that same sex marriage should not be recognized. There is always going to be somebody who is not going to think what they do is right...just as they have the right to live how they choose.... people have the right to not agree with it. And just as they have the right to express how they feel when people say negative things about them.. other people have the same right to express their view. What is wrong about expressing your view is when you are crual about it or unkind or out and out ignorant... Ms California was neither rude or unkind about her answer.. What Perez Hilton said about her when ever he said it was rude and cruel... He should not have stooped her level if he thought she was wrong. To call her a stupid b.... was just wrong and unkind. She did not name call it's not like she calle him or any other gay person an undesirable derrogatory name. She made a statement about a certain aspect of that part of the population... and she said in a respectful way... and he took it personally... which I just think he should not have done. And his remark about her was personal and directed toward her. |

Apparently it's this way....get into the 21st century and get over your own moral upbringing or be chastised and bereated for your beliefs. That is the "New America" But if you are gay or bisexual or gender challenged you are automatically in the "click" and anything you do or say is alright because you are gay, bisexual or gender challenged!! And then just watch the Freedom of Speech librals go NUTS when when a concervative has a different opinion!! LOL Freedom of Speech is only applied to librals.. God forbid (oops I mentioned GOD...Duck everyone) you express your moral/faithful opinion..you are so OUT of the "click" |

She needs to be stripped of her crown because she broke the rules. But its okay for her to show her goods then lie about it but freedom of speech goes to far when perez calls her a dumb b**** ! Like I said I agree she isn't the shinest apple off the tree. And I wouldn't want her representing my country. |

God freed the "slaves". Remeber Moses? God never said it was okay to own another human being! People did! We have the 10 commandments to live by and no where in there does he say to own another! Like I said earlier I respect your opinion I just don't agree! I'm not going to argue my religion and my beliefs, there is no need! So once again I respectfully agree to dissagree! One last thing I am proud of my faith and am glad to be cCatholic as are my children! I know that God is always by my side! He is the only one I truly have to answer too! |
