I have to applaud Miss California for standing up for her beliefs. She has been put through the media mill chewed up and spit out because she answered a question honestly. It may not be everyones views, but it was her's. She could have used this opportunity to advance her career and say what she may think is the popular thing to say and what she may belive is what the majority of people want her to say, but she had the guts to say what was in her heart.

She did not bash anyone elses beliefs or try to make anyone follow her thoughts, she simply answered a question honestly.

Actually the voters of the state of CA agree with her.

She knew she was in a mine field with the question & she answered as best she could, but was still honest. I think he was out of line asking that question anyway.. especially of one contestant when it was not posed to others.

Whether you agree with her views or not, she was honest...I mean she didn't request to share her views on that issue. It's not like she was carrying a picket sign - the pageant stage is not typically not the place for political activism.

I never watch pageants...the judges have zero qualifications & there are usually very few discernable differences in the contestants.

i give her a standing ovation for sticking to her morals & values. she will get a great reward in heaven for sticking to her honesty on the issue.

me personally i don't believe in same sex marriages.

but if everyone else does that is alright with me cause i'm not going to down grade people who are.

i think the question was totally uncalled for but she answered the best way possible i would love to slap the crap out of that judge.

it's sad she lost the crown but at least she feels right about not compromising her morals

i have nothing against gay people i say each to their own

Last time I looked this is still a free country- She spoke truthfully about her feelings regarding this issue- She did not compromise her beliefs or convictions for the sake of the crown, She has integrity. I applaud her!!

speaking as a Californian....who is clearly on the other side of this view point......I think the truth is, she was an embarrassment to me......she sounded like she didn't know what she wanted to say,,,she was inarticulate and stumbled and blundered her way through the question...it would have been one thing if she sounded like she meant what she said and was standing up to what ever anyone else thought....but she didn't, she came off sounding like a dumb blond...IMO...and I am only referring to the actual pageant question...and the first time she answered the question...not the canned responses we hear now that she has been coached or had time to put her thoughts together.

I disagree-- it was more than obvious to me that she realized her answer could win or lose the crown for her--that would give anyone reason to pause and perhaps not be as articulate as they could be,she remained true to her convictions, honesty and integrity won out over the stupid crown-

I saw her initial responce and that was what I was referring to....she was very eloquint in her responce to me and sounded very sincere.....knowing that it could cost her a title .... she still spoke from her heart.

I really didn't expect many to agree with my initial post, so say what you want...she is a class act from the get go!

And Just how can another persons point of view could possible be an embarassment to anyone? She was speaking for her personal self....

Actually, all of the contestants for the past two pagents have been asked different questions than the typical "no more world hunger" type of thing. I don't think it was out of line at all considering the other types of questions that were asked....like the AIG bail out and the auto industry. The pagent is trying to remake itself into a more modern woman type of thing. Gone is the ton of hairspray and such...they want real women looking real.

Now, with all that said.....Yes, she was honest. And honestly when someone says, "I don't mean to offend" Well, they know they are about to offend. Miss America is supposed to represent America. She is supposed to be full of grace and concientous of all of it's citizens. There were other ways in which she could have handled that question and still held grace and dignity. She simply could have said that Miss America is not a position which makes laws, therefore, her personal beliefs were irrelevant. It isn't like she was going to make that her platform. And if she was, she would have been canned. Pagent winners are not allowed to take on controversial subjects like that. In fact, since she has become a public face of "protecting marriage" she should rescind her runner up position. Pagents are not political. If that is what she wants, then give back the runner up and do it. Bad enough she has taken all the thunder from the actual winner.

I like the winner, not the whiner.

good points!!!
WEll i am referring to her saying...in my country...( uh duh the pageant is called miss america) we have the freedom to choose!...and then saying .....we can have a same sex marriage or an opposite marriage??? seriously...where is the poise and eloquence in that???? I don't see it....that's just my opinion though....I am however all for her or anyone stating their beliefs,....and sticking to that,,,,no way did she think that would cost her the crown...to imply that she threw the contest in order to answer that question is silly at best...these women train for years and years for that title....as a person from California...I expected more! They are coached to death, for odd questions....are taught to expect the unexpected....she had no idea that answer would cost her the crown....and who's to say it did?

I'm all for people being able to speak their mind freely, I don't think Perez Hilton is any articulate prize or a great representative of the gay community, but I support his right to speak his mind too. I would also agree with Miss California about some of the hype, particularly pertaining to the the topless photos of her released from when she was modeling as a teen. The fact that she is part of a group (beauty queens/models) that are usually sterotyped, and being critized for her expression of her sexuality, morality and personal choices is totally irrelevant!
However, since the contest's end her choice in what group to allign herself with, (national organization for marriage) speaks volumes about her integrity. That she has zero!

Watching the whole Q&A portion of these pagents are painful because they are all idiots. Im tired of seeing these same looking women over and over and over. I swear miss california and the winner looked excatly the same! The fake teeth, the fake tan, the fake boobs, the fake hair, its all just fake. I want to see an all natural Miss America pagent with REAL looking women not robots

Have you watched the last few years? I ask because on Bravo or some other channel a year or two ago they did a complete makover of the pagent. The contestants were floored. They took away the hair spray and the fake stuff and started making them real. They had to compete in sporty activities and be like "the girl next door" who has brains and is articulate. It seems that the ratings have been so horrid they wanted to make Miss America more contemporary. I haven't seen the show, because I have no idea what channel it is on so I don't know if they followed through with that route or not.

No I never seen that I would like to tho! Its sad how these women are usually trained from babies to be fake and phony and to put on a show and not be themselves!
