:-) I am tickled to death for some gay characters on the soaps. After all the hetros on the show have already done each other at least three times a change of pace is really appreciated!!! I am so tired of the same old couples playing musical beds with each other over and over and over and over........

Wow! Wouldn't that be something? Amc finally had a happy couple but now they hit rewind and put everyone in reverse to make the same old choices again. It really does get aggrevating. You wait so long for a couple to get together and then a years worth of waiting goes all to heck in one episode.

Gay folks have rights just like the rest of us. I'm glad for the diversity. We need to live and let live.

Yes Rafe is playing a gay part. I don't know if Rafe is straight in real life and I don't care.

Another character on Y&R is gay in real life and I haven't heard a peep about that. I mentioned who it was on Y&R posts, but my post was removed, I guess. Maybe this is the forum to mention it - the new Mac. She talks about it on Soap Central. I'm proud of her. Her mom, Cybil Shepherd and other family members are OK with that. We should be too!

As for the guy on y&r, he is gay by himself and he seems nice and is not bothering anyone so who cares. I havent watched recently so if thats has changed sorry.

I think gay characters are fine. I am nor happy or upset that more gay s/ls are being put in soaps, its just what it is. I will still watch if its a good show. I dont get the luxury of ff, but I dont think I would want it, because many s/ls I dont really care for until I am forced to watch them.

ITA!
I am just curious to see who his love interest will be? I am thinking Adam for some reason I don't know why? Or maybe one of jacks long lost sons will come back and be his lover!

I like that it wasn't a big story. It was just yup, I am gay. No big brou ha ha. I kinda like it that he is a side character....shows the world how it is. I would like to see an upfront storyline, but I kinda dig how this was presented as just no big deal.

Quote cats meow: i started this thread in the Y&R in error, tried to get it moved but there was a problem so i will have to start over,

seems like the Y&R is introducing a gay character, he has not been on very long and already people are up in arms about the s/l, i say the easy thing to do is DVR the soap, FF thru what you don't like, i do it all the time, stop making a big deal over something that may happen in the future

O.K. I have missed a lot of the eposodes recently. Who is the character??

Rafe Billys lawyer friend. Yea i have seen the upset about the gay s/l its funny how people want a new s/l and then they get one and they are mad about it!

There's another Rafe on another soap besides Days?

I liked the mater of fact way it was presented too, and everyone's reaction was, "oh okay."
I do hope that they will expand his character, and eventually include a love interest, especially since the Luke and Noah story is so lame on ATWT.
There are rumors that Nina's son will be his love interest, which sounds interesting. Since there is no other gay character currently on show one would have to be introduced.
Also the columnist who broke the story is reporting that his character will be getting a more significant role on the show.

Its probably because its a new character they can get away with that. Its the only way we will know him. But a current character we already know i would expect some more details. Like if I meet my brothers new friend and he is like hi I am gay! Ok he is gay, I would not think much of it. But if my Brother says hi I am gay, if the thought had not already crossed my mind I would be stunned and probably want to talk about it with someone. It would be the main thought for that day.

The gay life style doesn't bother me. Not my way, but, TO EACH HIS(or her)OWN. I just have one question, wish a gay would answer. And I'm not trying to be smart or insulting. Why are some so flamboyant or talk in thar funny voice? I have always wanted to know.

Right before I hit the reply button I had a really snarky answer all set to go, but have decided against it.
I am gay, and I suppose I am just as guilty as sterotyping sometimes as anyone else. I work with a heterosexual man, who when I first met him thought he was gay because he spoke with a litheness to his voice that occasionaly has a high pitch, as well as a little swish to his walk.
But he is completly one hundred percent heterosexual. So who knows!

Thank you for responding. Like I thought I made clear, gay is ok. it's just not my way. I am female and have 2 good male gay friends. We have men watched together and we both found it interesting on our different viewpoints on what we saw. Sorry if I offended you, I didn't mean to.

I too wondered, but like you can ever ask! I guess it is just how a person is. from the answer given. I know there are plenty of gay men who I would never think in a million years are gay just by looking or taking to them. Plenty of people have thought I was a lesbian, including my mom, since I dont wear make up, dont do my hair, dont carry a purse, dont really dress like a girl.... It was mostly men who would think this. But I am not. So I guess us humans assume too much sometimes.
