Cyndi Lauper plays matchmake for Luke and Noah, Carly brings a date to Lily's barbecue, Henry and Vienna celebrate the 4th of July alone and Noah makes a huge announcement.
Holden moves several bags back into Lily's. She decides to celebrate his moving back in with a family barbecue. Her first call is to Carly, who says she already has plans. Lily turns to Holden and says they'll have to celebrate alone!
Henry sees Mike at Al's and asks how the Metro sale is going. Mike says it is going nowhere but Henry convinces him to talk to Carly again. Mike leaves as Vienna returns and says she has a 4th of July celebration planned for them! She has George and Martha Washington costumes for them both! They close the diner and make love behind the counter.
Mike stops by Carly's. She says she won't sell Metro. He asks about her 4th plans and she says she is gong to work on the books. Not really wanting to work, though, she asks if he'd care to spend the holiday with her! Mike hesitates but Carly says she just wants a friend. She invites him to Lily and Holden's cookout!
Back at the house, Lily tells Holden that Carly is bringing a date, making him jealous. Lily reminds him that Carly is a big girl and can take care of herself. Holden says having a boyfriend isn't what is behind Carly's strange moods lately. Just then Carly arrives with Mike in tow. Holden doesn't like it! She says it is not a big deal and returns to Lily who begins questioning her about Mike and Jack. Carly says she is out of the romance game. Holden and Mike come in for drinks. They eat dinner and then Carly and Mike leave. Lily continues to worry about Carly and her man troubles. After a while, Holden makes an excuse about needing milk and leaves the house!
Holden arrives at Carly's. She sees him and asks why he is there. He says he was looking for Mike's car because he was jealous. Carly says Mike is just a friend but that doesn’t matter to Holden. She says she can't have feelings for Mike because she has feelings for him! "I shouldn't be here, in Jack's house," Holden whispers. She says they need boundaries. Holden is about to kiss her when Lily calls! She asks for more grocery items and tells him she loves him. He apologizes to Carly and leaves.
Tony sees Noah at Java and invites him to the Cyndi Lauper concert.
At Yo's, Luke is interviewing Cyndi before her gig begins. They talk about gay rights and then Cyndi realizes Luke is distracted - by Noah. Luke explains and Cyndi tells him things will work out. She takes the stage. The concert begins. Cyndi dances over to Noah and then back to Luke. Luke looks around for Noah after the song is over but Noah has already left with Tony. Cyndi dedicates the next song, "True Colors", to Luke and as she sings Noah returns to the bar. She hugs him when the song is over and Luke leaves the stage. Noah comes to him! He leads Luke outside and says he doesn't want Tony - he only wants Luke! Luke wants to believe him but isn't sure he can trust Noah. Noah kisses him! Luke introduces Noah to Cyndi. He asks Noah to come home with him but Noah says he can't - because he enlisted! Luke is stunned and asks why. Noah says he is trying to change his life; Luke believes enlisting is The Colonel's fault. Noah says he wants the structure of the military, that he needs that right now. The more he tries to explain the less Luke understands him. "You're not cut out for the Army," Luke says angrily. Noah refuses to listen to Luke's arguments and says he leaves for Chicago in the morning. Noah kisses him again and leaves.
