Martha Byrne Is Leaving ATWT!

Martha Byrne is leaving! (Soaps.com)
After several days of rumors and speculation, Soaps.com has learned that Martha Byrne, Lily, is leaving As The World Turns when her contract is up this spring!

Executive Producer Christopher Goutman told Soaps.com, “We made Martha an incredibly generous offer in hopes that she would
remain a valuable member of the As The World Turns cast. Unfortunately, Martha has decided to leave, despite our best efforts to keep her.â€

It has been reported in other publications Martha's requests included storyline approval, a stipulation that very few daytime stars actually have. Rumors are also abounding that the role of Lily will be recast soon after Martha leaves the show.

We have not been able to confirm or deny either of those rumors, but rest assured, Soaps.com will keep our ears to the ground to bring you the latest news as it develops.

This is Martha's second stint on the sudser. She took over the role of Lily Walsh Snyder in 1983 as a teenager and briefly left in 1989 to pursue other acting projects in Los Angeles. Martha returned to the role in 1993 and hasn't left since. Two other actresses (Lucy Deakins, 1984-1985, and Heather Rattray, 1986-1993) have played the part of Lily.

Martha is married to police officer Michael Macmahon. In addition to her role on ATWT she is an accomplished singer and has released two CD's. She has performed on the show in the past.

Will you please let the boyfriends have a real relationship. Stop with this "almost" kissing, you started this storyline now treat it with respect.

I think the power that be have lost their rabbit azz mind not making a reasonable deal with Martha Byrne. Come on. 22 years must stand for something.

After that stupid stunt of letting Dusty leave I should have known that they were nuts.

NOOOOOOOO!! As I gasp and cry. She has been the heart of soul of ATWT all my life. I'm absolutely devastated!

I wish Martha well in whatever she does. More of the soap actors should demand some approval over their roles. These writers have completely changed the personalities of too many of them. I didn't know Martha was such a great actress until the twin roll. The writers had turned Lilly into a bore but Martha was great as the twin.

I think ATWT is making a huge mistake in letting all these actors go.
I remember Lilly from years ago and I personally hate to see her replaced. No one can. Martha-have a wonderful life and I personally will miss you as Lilly.

I have to say I hate to see her go. I do understand why the people in charge did not want agree to her demands. This show has a lot of "long timers" and if she would have gotten what she wanted it would have been a long list of stars right behind her. I will miss her palying Lily and still miss Rose.

Martha (Lily), will definitely be missed. A talented and versatile actress. I remember her and Dusty and Holden when they were just starting as young'uns. Enjoy your family and life. Also, Happy Birthday Trent (Henry). Miss you Craig.
