Casey and Alison meet up in Old Town. He thanks her for the job search help and offers to take her to dinner – no strings attached. She says he has to tell Tom and Margo the truth and offers to go with him. He invites her to Thanksgiving dinner, hoping that Alison's appearance will keep them from coming down hard on him. "I'm a bad mark on the Hughes name. It would be nice to have a friendly face there," he says. She gives in and agrees to come along.
Tom and Margo are getting Daniel settled at the house when Emily calls to check in. Daniel is excited to see her and invites her over; Tom approves but Margo thinks this is a bad idea because Casey is coming home soon. Tom says they can't keep Emily away from Daniel just because Casey and Emily broke things off. Emily arrives a few minutes later with video games for Daniel. He goes upstairs to play and Tom suggests that Emily leave so they can get ready for their family dinner. Emily and Margo exchange barbs about family; Casey arrives – with Alison! The sisters are shocked to see one another. Casey says he invited Alison because she's been helping him figure out his future. Daniel comes back downstairs; he asks if Emily can stay for dinner, too. "Oh, sure, the more the merrier," Margo says. Emily gets snarky with Alison about her job help. Casey finally comes clean and tells them he was expelled. Alison says there are other schools; Emily continues her snarky comments to her sister until Tom says they need time to talk. Emily takes Daniel upstairs but Allie stays with Casey. Allie asks them to listen to Casey because his heart was in the right place. They listen but neither understands Casey's actions. Margo and Alison go into the kitchen; Alison says Casey's heart really was in the right place and if they will stand by him now, he can get through this. She turns to go but Margo asks her to stay.
Outside the door, Tom gets quiet. Casey tells him to say anything but Tom isn't sure where to start. "You've been given one second chance after another and you just throw them away," he says angrily. Casey says he doesn't care what the future holds as long as he doesn't wind up a suit like Tom! Tom goes back inside and runs into Emily; he blames her for Casey! She says this has nothing to do with her. "His problems started way before he was with me," Emily says. Tom says seducing a kid isn't a plus; she storms out and runs into Casey. He asks why she cares about his education; she says she cares about him. "Why? Did Dusty dump you again?" Casey asks. Emily says she realizes she made a mistake – and kisses him! Alison sees them. She angrily says they are acting badly and turns to go back inside. Casey asks Emily to leave! She goes inside to get her things. Casey tells Alison that Emily started it but he doesn't know why – and he doesn't care why! Margo calls them to dinner. Tom resets the kitchen table because Kim and Bob have begged off from dinner because the soup kitchen is packed. Margo says Casey's actions weren't that bad when compared to the problems of the homeless. Emily says she isn't staying. Casey, Alison, Tom, Margo and Daniel sit down to dinner. Casey apologizes for going off on his dad. Tom and Margo offer prayers of thanks for their family. "As long as we've got each other, we have everything we need," Margo says and they eat. Emily watches through the window, crying.
Alison arrives at Casey's and says it is time for him to find a job. Casey isn't interested but Allie plows ahead. Every job she comes up with he turns down, saying it won't matter once a potential employer sees his criminal record. Alison says he has to do something to make things up to his parents and Casey says they don't know about the expulsion yet! Alison asks what he wants – and Casey tries to kiss her! She pulls away from him and asks what he's trying to pull. Casey says he wanted to kiss her, which only makes Alison more nervous. "I'm attracted to you," he admits. She says he has to control himself because she only wants to be his friend. Casey asks if they can be friends with benefits and Alison turns him down. She concentrates on his job search but he's still not interested and suggests a night of pool at Yo's.
Luke goes to Yo's to get drunk. The bartender asks for his ID and Luke gives him a $100! Casey and Alison walk in and see him at the bar. They are worried and go to him. Luke mumbles about getting kicked out of school and dumped at the same time. Casey and Allie try to stop him but he just keeps drinking. Casey grabs the beer and dumps it; Luke slugs him and the bartender kicks them all out. Casey tries to take Luke's keys. Luke calls Alison a porn queen and Casey a loser when they try to take his keys. He storms off. Alison tries to stop him but Casey holds her back. He calls Noah and says Luke is in big trouble. "He needs you," Casey says.
Casey returns to Java; Alison finds him there and tried to talk to him. Casey blows her off, reminding her that he is the kind of guy she hates. She says he is a friend and asks him to listen. She apologizes for being so hard on him; he says he deserved it. He tells her he went to the dean and got expelled. He says Luke was expelled, too, and Alison is shocked. "I was an idiot," Casey says. She tells him to come with her and drags him out.
Casey and Alison go skating at the high school. She asks if he wanted to get kicked out. He says he went to the dean to prove to her that he cares about his friends and he wanted to fix things for once. He admits that college was never his first choice, though.
Alison and Casey are playing around in Old Town when they see Kevin! He brings up the election. Kevin talks to one of his fans and Alison asks what he is talking about. Casey says Kevin has a case of sour grapes. Kevin says there is an investigation into the election to find out why 98% of the student population turned out this year and last year only 26% voted. Kevin walks off. Alison asks if there is something to worry about. Casey says Kevin is just mad that he lost but Alison is really worried because of the talk about stuffing the ballot box. She realizes that is exactly what happened! Casey says he was just helping Luke but Alison angrily says what he did was wrong. She says he could have ruined things for Luke. "Grow up!" she says and storms away.
Casey finds Alison at the hospital. She is still angry but he tells her that things are fine with Luke and the election. He says everything is fine now; Alison says nothing is fine!
Casey arrives home after voting in his first election. Margo is distant with him; Casey says he had to stand up for Alison. Margo agrees but says Casey went too far. She talks about work and tells Casey to get a job because he has to do something with his life. When he is alone, Casey plays video games! Alison arrives and teases him about the game. She says she owes him; both wish they could make Kevin pay. Alison says they can still support Luke but Casey doesn't know how. Alison convinces him to come along anyway.
