Once Jessica leaves, Dusty informs Craig that this changes nothing between them. He says he didn't think it would, that's why he did it. Dusty says he doesn't care why he did it, because when he walks out that door the first thing he's going to do is track down Lucy and his son. He goes on to say when he finds them, they'll disappear to some place where he'll never find them.
Once the officer pulls Dusty away to get started on his release papers, Craig tells Emily he's impressed. She tells him to go away. He says now that he knows she's on Dusty's side he feels sorry for him. She says the feelings mutual. He goes on to say, in front of Meg, that he has a very, very long memory, and he won't forget what happened. She asks if that's a threat. "Simple... statement... fact," he replies, with Meg standing behind her. "Can I quote you in the Intruder?" she asks. "Put it above the fault," he answers, then walks away.
Craig joins Meg at Lakeview. She asks why he risked everything to do what he did. She reminds him that he could have gone to jail. He says he did it for her. She has a hard time believing him. He asks where his reward is. Like you said dusty free and clear, he'll lead me right to Lucy and Johnny. She starts to leave, but he asks her to wait. He says the things she said to him last night made him think. He goes on to say he took a hard long look at his life, and he's ready to make changes--to be a better man. "Let me prove it to you," he offers.
At the party, Tom explains that Craig is being arrested because he replaced the blanks in Dusty's gun with real bullets. "Why would I do that? Craig responds. "Is there any proof here, or is this just speculation?" Margo adds. Instead of answering their questions, Tom suggest they take things downtown. Turning to Meg, Craig says, "You did this, didn't you? You helped Emily set me up."
At the station, Tom explains the arrest to Margo, Craig and Dusty. He tells them everything Emily told to him. He goes on to say that they found the blanks at Craig's place.
Later, Margo questions Emily about Craig's shooting. Emily tells her the same story she told Tom. Next, Margo turns to Meg. She asks her why Craig says she set him up. Meg replies that she doesn't know. She says he was suspicious of her all night. Margo says she can understand that, because who would ever dream she would take an interest in her brother. She defends herself saying he has an interest in her. She goes on to say since she was spending the evening alone she thought why not. After all, she says it was New Year's Eve and her non-wedding was a few weeks ago. "So," Margo says, unimpressed. "So, staring at the television was a little more depressing than I expected. Do I really need to explain why I agreed to go out and be with people?" Meg replies. "No, no, no. Actually, we get it. We get it," Jessica answers. "Good," she says, excusing herself.
Back at the station, Craig confronts Meg. She asks what he's so angry about. He says he just wants to know why she set him up. She says she just wanted him to get a taste of his own medicine.
Later, Craig informs Meg that there's many ways she could have set him up, but instead she put on a sexy dress and kissed him. He demands to know why she done it. He says all he wanted was his son. She says he's not his son, not in anyway that counts. She goes on to say his campaign to take out anyone who cares about him is ugly and it hurts him. "What was I going to do? They wouldn't let me near him," he replies. She says Johnny has two uncles and an aunt--all of them willing to pitch in and love him. She continues saying he doesn't need a man whose only goal is to make himself feel happy.
"Ouch. I still don't see how this is your fight."
"You made it my fight."
"How?"
"By asking for my friendship, when all along you were just using me."
"I was not using you," he replies, shaking his head.
As their argument continues, she calls him a greedy, self-centered jerk. Then she informs him that when she kissed him she felt sad, because he's not worth it! After she walks out, he says to himself, "Man she's gorgeous while she's angry."
Back at Craig's place, he makes a move on Meg. She pushes him away saying the night has been strange. She goes on to say she doesn’t normally send out mixed singles, but unfortunately, that's what she's managed to do. As he pours them more champagne, he reminds her that moments ago she wouldn't have dinner with him, but now she's there, alone with him in his home, drinking champagne. She says it's because they're both a little lonely. "It doesn't mean I want to rush into anything," she adds. During their conversation, he asks if she still loves Paul. "I plead the fifth," she replies. After her reply, her cell phone begins beeping. In an attempt to get him out of the room, she surprises him when she asks for some Brandy with ice.
As he leaves the room to get her Brandy, she scurries to her phone to read the text message that waits. The message is from Emily instructing her to get Craig out of Fairwinds right away, because she's with the DA.
When Craig returns with her drink, Meg says she just remembered that Holden and Lily were going to dance at the party, and she promised Holden she wouldn't miss it. He says she's probably already missed it. She says maybe not, maybe they can catch it. She asks if he's coming with. "Sure, wouldn't miss it," he replies.
Craig and Meg arrive at the party to wish Margo a happy New Year. Meg asks if Lily and Holden have already danced. Margo confirms. Meg says she guesses she got the time confused. Pointing out Holden and Lily to Meg, Margo says she can talk with them if she'd like. She says she's going to go over and apologize. Craig says he's sure they're over it. "I won't be long," Meg replies.
With Meg gone, Margo asks him about Meg. He says this time even he doesn't know what it is, but he says he plans to find out. When he asks Margo where Tom is, she replies that he's at the station. She says Emily wanted to see the new DA. When he asks what it's in regards to, she says she doesn't know to ask her. He says he plans too, then excuses himself to say hello to Lily and Holden.
After Craig says hello to Lily and Holden, he apologizes for missing their dance, then pulls Meg away. He confronts her saying he's not having fun with this game. She acts as if she doesn't know what he's talking about, but he reminds her that her cell phone was awful active for someone who didn't have any plans for the night. He goes on to say he knows Emily is talking with DA as they speak, but he says she already knew that. She says she has no idea what he's talking about. He says she's going to tell him what the two of them are up to right now or he'll put an end to their game right away! She continues to say she doesn't know what's going on, and she tells him she doesn't appreciate being grilled. As she turns to leave, he grabs her. "Hey, let go of me," she orders." "Why did you bend over backwards to get me out of my house?" Craig inquires. He goes on to say she didn't give a d** about the party until her cell phone started buzzing at his place. He asks if it was Emily. She replies, "I can't stand Emily." At that moment, Tom shows up to place Craig under arrest for accessory to attempted murder. Tom informs him that they have new evidence in his shooting. "She's lying. This is obviously a set up. Tell him!" he says to Emily. "Happy New Year, Craig," Emily grins. He looks to Meg whose also smiling. He knows they set him up!
At Meg's place, Meg tells Emily Craig is on his way. Moments after hanging up, they hear a knock at the door. Meg answers the door, surprised to see Craig. She can't believe how quickly he arrived. He asks what's so urgent. She asks him to sit down, but he says he's in a hurry. She tells him Paul needs to rest to make a full recovery. He says she's being very protective of a guy she just left at the alter. She says it's not personal; she's just being a nurse.
Later, Craig is surprised when Meg asks him to be her date for the New Year's Eve party. When he asks her why she asked him, she says a girl doesn't want to be alone on New Year's Eve. As soon as she spots Emily hiding, she cuts her self short to remind Craig that they're already late. She suggests he go change. While changing, Meg asks Emily if she was able to plant the blanks. She confirms. When Craig comes back in, Emily runs to hide and Meg tells Craig she's changed her mind, she doesn't want to go. Craig is shocked at her change of heart. She says a woman has the right to change her mind. He asks, "Why the sudden change of heart?" She explains that while he was upstairs she pictured them entering the party, and all the people she's not ready to face yet. She goes on to say Barbara will only beg and plead for her to take Paul back, and Holden and Lily are able to survive everything, unlike her self, because she's breaking off her second serious relationship since her divorce. He says he can relate to that after just losing the two "joys" of his life. She expresses that she doesn't want to get him down, so if he wants to go to the party he can drop her off at the farm on the way. He suggest they have New Year's there instead. As he grabs the champagne to celebrate, he reaches to open the drawer where Emily planted the blanks. "Craig, stop," Meg shouts.
