"So, now you've changed your mind about the wine?" Craig inquires. She replies that her stomach is upset. He demands to know what is going on. "It's nothing, it's just..." she laughs. "Would you look at that, it's midnight," she continues. After they wish each other a happy New Year, Meg surprises Craig with a New Year's kiss!
At the hospital, Paul wakes up to find Craig standing over his bed. "Hello Paul, I heard you had yourself a little accident." "Go away," Paul replies. Craig refuses. When Meg walks in, Paul instructs her to get him out of there. Craig excuses himself, but before he leaves, he tells Meg he'll meet her at the nurses' station.
Later, Paul wakes up again to find Craig standing over him. Craig asks for his opinion. He says he's taking Meg out for dinner and wants an idea of her favorite foods. Paul begins to holler for Meg, but Craig tells him she's busy. He says she's trying to finish early so they can sneak away. He goes on to say he was thinking about a Duck, then asks if Emma raised Ducks, because he says he would hate to order something for her that she would feel bad about eating.
"You stay away from her," Paul replies.
"Or what? You're going to throw your straw at me. It's OVER, Paul. You have no more power over Meg."
"She doesn't want you."
"She will," Craig smirks. Patting him on the leg he continues, "You feel better," then he leaves.
At the nurses' station, Craig asks Meg if she missed him. She asks what he wants. He says he's been thinking about why Lucy ran off with his son. He says maybe it's because of him, so he says he's going to change. "Oh, so you're going to turn over a new leaf," she says. When he hits on her, she asks him what happened to the new him.
At the accident site, Meg pulls Paul out of the car and begins CPR. While performing CPR, We see Paul in what appears to be a dream. Everything is in black and white. Paul notices a little girl bouncing a ball. When he approaches her, she runs off. Walking up to a hotel, he knocks on the door. Emily answers. She invites him in. He says there was a little red headed girl outside the window, and she was playing ball.
"You saw her?" Emily asks.
"Yea, who is she."
"First tell me, who are you?"
"I don't know," he replies. "I don't I'm supposed to be here. I think I'm supposed to find the little red-haired girl," he continues.
Emily tells him it's her daughter, Jennifer. She goes on to say Jennifer's gone. He says, "No, she was here. She was outside playing with the ball."
Emily suggests he warm up by the fire. As he kneels in front of the fireplace, he sees an image of the red-haired girl in the flame.
Soon after Paul sees the little girl in the flames, we see the paramedics trying to bring him back with defibulators. Meg is by his side, yelling for him to come back.
Later, the paramedics wheel Paul into the hospital. In a panic, Meg tries to be with Paul, but the doctor stops her, asking what happened. She explains that a truck hit his car head-on, but she doesn't know whose fault it was. He asks if she checked his vitals. She says she did. "He had no pulse. He wasn't breathing. He was gone," she answers breathlessly. While explaining everything, a paramedic approaches. She asks how he is. The paramedic informs her that he's responsive for now. She rushes off to check on him!
Again, Paul is dreaming. He sees a Christmas stocking on a fireplace with his name on it. "Who is Paul?" he says to himself. Will and Gwen rush inside. He tells them he needs to go home. They sit to play chess. "Do you know who Paul is?" he asks them. Barbara walks in. "You’re my mother, Paul says to her. "No, here's my son, my wonderful son," she says, referring to Dusty. He says he as to get to the train. Before he can leave, Dusty meets him at the door holding a pistol. He says they should play a game. A game he's sure Paul's played before. He says, "Some bullets are real, some are blank, and some chambers are empty. You first," he finishes, placing the gun into Paul's hands. Paul holds the gun to his head. "Go ahead, take a shot. We all got to go sometime," Dusty encourages.
Later, Dusty and Barbara leave. Paul heads for the door, but it's locked. He asks Will and Gwen to let him out. Craig and Meg walk through the door. He says to Meg, "What's going on here, you're not supposed to be with him!"
"Don't talk to my wife like that," Craig says.
"My husband and I are in love, but what would someone like you know about love?" Meg informs.
"I was in love. I think I was in love with you," he replies.
"Well, if you were you wouldn't have to THINK about it you would remember it. So now, leave us, and obey the rules," Craig replies.
"What rules?" Paul inquires.
"You know them. Everybody does. Nice meeting you." Gwen says, getting ready to leave. "Where you going? You going to catch the train?" Paul asks.
"Oh no, it's too late for the train," Gwen answers.
He offers to help Will with his ski equipment. Will says, "Oh no, thanks. I don't want your help, I never did." Paul tries to stop them. He tells Will he knows him, asking what was he meant. "Bye, bye. Don't forget about the rules," Gwen says on their way out. "What rules? What are the rules?" Paul shouts.
"Do you have any family in the area that might help you find your way?" Barbara approaches.
"No, no. I don't think there's anybody that can help me," Paul replies, looking confused.
Meg bumps into Craig downtown. She notices he doesn't look too cherry, so she asks him about it. He says it's not much of a Christmas for him this year without his children. She replies, "You reap what you sew." She goes on to say he deserves a Christmas alone after everything he's done.
Unconscious in his car, Paul sees a bright light! Someone is coming toward him! He looks up and notices someone in a mask. The person behind the mask has a deep voice--a voice that sounds like a man. The man behind the mask asks Paul if he's alright. Instead of answering, Paul asks if he's alive. The man tells Paul its Christmas time, time to celebrate. He asks Paul to come with him into the light, telling him not to be afraid. Reaching out his hand to Paul, Paul asks who he is. He thinks it's his father! "Is that who you want me to be?" the man behind the mask questions. Paul remains speechless. The man tells him he won't mind if he removes the mask to discover his identity. Slowly, Paul reaches up to remove the mask. It's Craig! Craig tells him not to be afraid. He offers his hand once more. This time Paul takes it!
Downtown, while Meg and Craig continue talking, Margo approaches them. Meg excuses herself, saying she has to go. Margo suggests Craig give things a rest. He says it's hard without his children. She tells him it's the season of faith, try to believe in Lucy's love and see what happens.
Later, Margo thanks Craig for being generous with her boys, then she asks him if he's sure he doesn't want to come back for dinner later. He says he'll just stay home. Giving him a hug, she tells him miracles can happen. He can change the way he thinks and acts. She goes on to say his kids will be home someday to have Christmas with him again. "I don't think you ever get what you want unless you fight for it," he replies.
At Craig's place, Meg informs Craig that dropping the charges against Dusty is his best bet to finding his children. He says she must do something for him in return. She responds, "I'm trying to help you find your kids and you're hitting on me." Craig smiles. He reminds her that Paul tried to kill him. He believes the person she's really trying to help is Dusty. She says no, she's trying to help Johnny. He says Dusty doesn't want Johnny home, he wants Lucy home so he can fill her head with more promises. As a result, he says he's not going to drop the charges. Not happy with his decision, she leaves.
In anger, Paul barges in on Craig! He says after what he done to him he can forget about looking for Johnny, because he'll make sure he never finds him! Then he confronts him about being out on his balcony, he says the railing gave way. Craig acts surprised.
Later, Paul warns Craig that if he goes near Meg again he'll kill him. He tells him he doesn't know Meg too well, because she came by to see him.
Paul asks what Meg wanted. He says she came by to ask if there was anything she could do for him. He goes on to say when he told her how much Johnny meant to him, she was touched. His phone rings. He asks Paul to excuse him, telling him he knows the way out. He takes the call to discover it's Margo. She says she spoke to Emily about the kidnapping, but she says she didn't know anything. Making her call a quick one, she says she has to go, she just wanted to keep him in the "loop." He says he appreciates it. After she hangs up, he notices Paul is spying on his phone conversation. Therefore, he leads Paul to believe he's talking with Meg.
"Um, No, I uh think we should talk about that Meg." He pauses. "Now, um, well, sure, traffic shouldn't be too bad around the farm this time of day. He pauses again then says, "Well, alright, I'm really looking forward to it too…. "Okay, see you there. Bye, bye."
After he hangs up the phone, Craig gets up to watch Paul leave. "Too easy," he says to himself.
