Janet arrives at the police department; Jack and Tom are there. She tells them about the run-in with Sage and Carly. She says she was just trying to stop Sage and apologizes; Jack says her heart was in the right place. Tom says it doesn't matter because this is about Carly, not Janet. He says they better be prepared to get all three kids. Janet is worried how this will affect the kids and Carly; Tom says they have to stay strong. Jack wonders if he can stop this; Janet tells him to go to Carly. Jack says that isn't the answer and blames himself, saying he should have stayed gone in the past instead of always being around for Carly. Janet asks if he is confused about his feelings now; he says he isn't. She tells him to talk to Carly but he says talking won't help now. "I know what we have to do – we have to get married," Jack says. Janet gets angry and says getting married is not the answer. Jack smiles, kisses her neck and says they have to move forward so that everyone knows they are forever. He says that is the only way to stop the pain from the mixed signals. She agrees; Jack says he loves her. She says he has to tell her that every day for the rest of her life. Holden calls and says his talk with Carly didn't help. Jack defends Janet; Holden says he believes Janet but doesn't blame Carly for standing by her kid. They agree to meet at the courthouse. Carly arrives and says she is dropping the suit because Sage admitted she was lying! Janet and Jack are relieved. He asks to see Sage; Carly says he can but not today. He agrees to her wishes. "I never meant. . .I'm very sorry," she says and turns away. Jack says he is sorry, too. She leaves. Janet asks what is next; Jack says they are going home to get her out of her sensible clothes. They kiss.
Liberty goes to Carly's and asks her not to ruin Janet's life. Carly says she is just protecting her children; Liberty says Janet wouldn't hurt a child, either. She defends her mother but Carly remains firm on her anti-Janet stance. Liberty says Janet only hit her because she was afraid Liberty would turn out just like her; she says Jack is good for her mom. Carly tells her to leave. Parker returns from a movie. Carly says Liberty was just leaving and she walks out. Parker follows her. Sage comes downstairs, worried about the court date. She says she is afraid! Carly says she just has to tell the truth about Janet hitting her. Sage asks if the judge will be like the judges on television. Carly asks if swearing to tell the truth is a problem and Sage sadly says no. She goes back upstairs. Carly calls Lily but she isn't home.
On the porch Liberty tells Parker what went down inside. She can't believe Carly wouldn't listen to her. Parker says he'll help her fix things and hugs her. Parker goes back inside and Carly asks him to watch Sage while she goes out.
Carly arrives at the hospital and asks Lily about Lucinda. Lily fills her in and then tells her about Lucinda's impromptu wedding to Brian. Carly turns to go but Lily stops her and asks what is wrong. They leave to have a drink.
At The Lakeview, Carly tells Lily about Sage and the custody suit. Lily says she is doing the wrong thing and is just taking advantage of Sage's issues so she can have Jack back! Carly says that isn't true. Lily asks if she believes Sage or if she wants to believe Sage. "There is a big difference," she says.
They walk back to Lily's and she tells Carly to be certain of Sage before the hearing. Holden arrives and Carly leaves. Lily tells him she is happy for Lucinda.
Carly stops by the babysitters to pick up Sage but Jack already picked her up. She calls him and leaves a message that he better return Sage or she'll have his parental rights revoked!
Liberty arrives at Al's and asks Janet about Jack and the charges. Janet tells her not to worry because Jack has a plan. Carly barges in and demands to know where Jack and Sage are; Janet won't say. They fight about Sage's lie and Carly continues to defend her daughter. Liberty butts in and says Janet did not hit Sage but Carly won't listen. Janet tells Liberty that this isn't her fight and sends her outside. She turns to Carly and says that Jack better get the truth or she'll lose out! Carly says Janet is the only one in danger of losing and leaves.
Meanwhile, Jack takes Sage to the park to get ice cream. He tells her about lying and losing his job; he says lying is never the answer. Sage says sometimes lies are the perfect solution and points out that if Carly didn't tell him about her misdiagnosis, they would still be a family. Jack says Carly's lie isn't why they broke up. Sage nearly slips and tells him that she lied about Janet hitting her but clams up when he asks again if she lied. Jack brings up the hearing and tells her that she can't lie to a judge; he says Janet wouldn't hurt her. "Mom believes me," Sage says. Jack says more lies will not create a reconciliation between him and Carly; he encourages her to tell the truth. Sage angrily asks why he left her with Janet in the first place. Jack spots Janet; she tells him about Carly's appearance at the diner. She says they have to get out of there and offers to drive them. Sage refuses to go. Carly arrives and says, "She's not going with Janet – ever!" She sends Carly to the car. She accuses Jack of trying to influence Sage; Jack says she is the one trying to influence Sage! She accuses Janet of hitting Sage again and threatens to have Jack arrested if he doesn't stay away from Sage! She leaves. Janet apologizes for coming to him; he says this isn't her fault – it is Carly's. He follows her.
Jack follows Carly and Sage home; he apologizes for not telling her he was picking up Sage. Then he asks her to think about the hearing and reconsider her stance. "Don't drag our little girl into court to choose between her parents. That would be the biggest injustice of all," he says. Carly insists that she isn't making Sage choose. He begs her to look at all sides and says again that he believes Janet; he reminds her of Sage's other lies and says this is their fault – not Janet's! He says they have given Sage false hope over the past few months and she wouldn't be lying about Janet if they had broken the ties from the beginning. "Help me end this," he begs. He asks if he can talk to Sage – with her – so they can convince her that there is no future with them. Carly refuses. Jack says she won't let him see Sage because she doesn't want him to be with Janet! He thinks she wants him back again! Carly insists she doesn't want him at all. Jack says if she pushes this, Sage will learn about Carly's past and she will lose! He leaves.
