In Pittsburgh, Jack goes to a gallery and asks around about Simon. Carly creeps up on him. She tells him she sent Holden to look after Molly. He insists that he can find Simon on his own. Jack tries to walk away from her but she follows him, insisting that he needs her. He wonders if she has a thing for Simon. "He was the worst mistake I ever made and that says a lot," she claims. Jack thinks she's running away from her problems. They offer to stop questioning each other and just find 'the loser'.
Carly and Jack search a database for leads on Simon. Janet calls but Jack tries to fob her off. She tells him that Katie needs him to come back. He offers to be back when he can and hangs up. Carly corners a lead and they rush off to check it out.
She takes him to get a new suit since they are going to a charity benefit. She uses Craig's credit card to buy him the most expensive suit they can find.
Carly and Jack arrive at the benefit. As they look around, they bump into a couple who just happen to have Simon as their dealer. When they look for him, he's vanished. Before he can storm off, she points out that they are playing their song. As they dance, Simon taps Jack on the shoulder.
Molly and Jack go outside. She looks through the paper and cries as she reads the congressmansaying that she is a mental case. Jack tells her she'll bounce back. When they get in her car and drive off, Carly walks by and into the station. She's informed that Molly no longer works there and they show her the tape of Molly's on-screen outburst. Carly realizes her cousin must really need her help.
As they drive, Molly asks Jack what is wrong with him. They nearly get into an accident. He checks the engine and realizes her brake fluid has been drained. They assume the congressman must have had this done thanks to her public threats against him. They go to one of Molly's friends on the police force and tell him about this. He has her car checked and then confirms that it was tampered with. Wearing a wire, she hurries off and corners the congressman. As she tries to get him into a car to talk, Carly runs over and interrupts. Jack comes over and drags her away as Molly and the congressman get into the car. He confesses that he had her brakes tampered with. As soon as he steps out of the car, the cops arrest him. Carly comes back out and hugs her cousin.
The three of them go out for coffee and Molly explains what's been going on in her life. When she says that Jack is looking for Simon, Carly wonders why. She thinks he's helped enough people and can go home. Jack isn't ready for that. She says running away won't help and his family needs him. He needs to find Simon for Katie. Carly thinks this is crazy and Katie is too busy missing her husband to want Simon or Mike. If he's going back on the road, she's going with him. He tells her that Molly needs her but she won't back off. Jack walks out on her. Carly vows to follow him.
Craig tracks Carly down in a bar in South Carolina. She's just been drinking seltzers and orders him to leave. He tells her that he's taking her home to her children. She refuses to let Jack deal with his demons on his own. Craig still refuses to leave without her.
Craig takes Carly to her motel room. They begin trading barbs and he insists that he and Rosanna trust each other. She says her sister never learns from her mistakes. Craig admits that they wouldn't be able to live with themselves if Carly relapsed and ended up in the gutter. She taunts him to call Rosanna and tell her that they are in a motel together. He owes up to letting her down and claims he doesn't want to abandon her again. She insists that she has turned her life around and asks him to leave her alone. Before he does, he finds a vodka bottle in the trash. She claims she dumped the booze out and called her sponsor. She knows that she'll never be out of the woods. They share chocolate and he asks her why she's chasing Jack. She says it's because she's scared to see him unravel like this. When she tells him that Jack is looking for Simon, he's not pleased. "Jack is lost," she says. She owes him and has to bring him home. "Jack's off on an emotional bender," Craig summarizes. He's glad that when they screw up, they don't lose their identities.
Back in New York, Jack watches the news broadcast from the back of the studio. Molly confesses to her affair with the congressman on the air. The director orders that they go to commercial and then fires Molly. She vows to make sure everyone knows about the congressman. Jack slips off and calls Carly, asking her to come to New York to help Molly.
In South Carolina, Anna and Carly find Mike unconscious in the hospitality suite at the racetrack. Mike wakes up and explains why Jack was there. He confesses to his wife that he was going to race to try and solve their money problems.
