In the hall, Holden bumps into Lucinda and tells her that things are officially over with Lily. When he goes up to his room, she reminds him that he told her she deserved a better man than Ebb. She admits that Lily came by and she let her think they slept together. Holden says it's okay. "She's got her life. I've got mine," he says. She tells him he needs a woman who will put him first. "I can't live this close to you and not be with you," she decides. In tears, she tells him to be happy and leaves.
At home, Lily tells Lucinda that she feels bad about deceiving Holden by trapping him into a trip to the cabin. Lucinda says this is for the best and walks out. Damian arrives with the annulment papers she sent him. He reminds her that they vowed to spend the rest of their lives together. "We can't keep those promises anymore," she says. He notices she's got her bags packed. She explains that she's taking the kids away for a break. "We need some time apart," she tells him. He doesn't think this is fair. "Don't make this any harder than it already is," she says, asking him to sign the papers.
Holden corners Lucinda in her office and accuses her of arranging for him to spend time alone with Lily. She thinks he's being pigheaded and tells him that Lily needs him. "She has Damian," he points out. Lucinda insists that Damian took advantage of her while she was in a haze. He says that things aren't that simple, but she thinks it's time for forgiveness and urges him to go to her daughter. "Everything will be alright," she says.
Lucinda runs into Damian at the bar and tells him to get used to being alone. He tells her that he's planning a romantic dinner with his wife. She laughs.
Holden arrives at the end of the wedding and collapses. His kids help him up. He tells Lily he's been waiting to kiss her for months. They kiss. Damian paces and sends the judge away. "It's a pity you couldn't have materialized an hour ago," Lucinda says. Holden wonders what he just walked in on. Lily asks him why he never called. He explains that he was being held prisoner and then asks what's going on. Lily fumbles through an explanation. Holden assumes that this is a wedding between Meg and Damian. "It's not her," Lily says. He notices the ring on her finger. Lily says that the cops told her no one could have survived the crash. He refuses to go to a doctor until they've talked this over. Luke leaves to tell the family as the kids help Holden to his room. Lucinda tells Damian it's time for him to leave. "Damian is staying," Lily insists. Her mother tells her that the love of her life has come back to her and she should make him glad he did. Lucinda takes the kids away. Lily tells Damian she needs to be with Holden now. He understands, but he still feels like she belongs to him. After kissing her hand, he leaves.
Lily rolls over in bed and looks at her ring. Lucinda comes in and tells her that Faith told her about the wedding. She begs her to tell her that Faith was lying. Fighting ensues and Lucinda thinks that Faith is turning her anger on herself and needs her mother's help. Lily feels like all of her happiness is in the past. "That's what grief is," Lucinda explains. Lily doesn't know if she can get better without Damian. Lucinda suggests that Damian engineered this whole thing. Lily becomes livid and tells her to get over it. Lucinda asks her to wait a little longer. She won't. "I can't watch you make this terrible mistake," her mother says, refusing to attend the wedding.
Meg visits Lucinda at the office. Lucinda laughs and tells her it looks like Damian could be arrested for obstruction of justice. Meg seems disappointed but insists that she doesn't want him back after he humiliated her. The more insistent about this she is, the more Lucinda doubts her. Meg accuses her of using her just to protect her daughter and suggests she let Lily look after herself for once.
When Lily and Damian go home, they find Lucinda waiting. "I wasn't expecting a threesome," she says. Lily doesn't want any drama. Lucinda is amazed that the cops let him out. They guess she must have been behind the trouble at the police station. They ask her who was helping her. Bickering follows. Lily reminds her that Damian took a bullet for Luke and she's sick of everyone speaking against him. "He's got you completely brainwashed," Lucinda groans. Lily orders her out. Lucinda warns her that she is cutting herself off from everyone who loves her and reminds her that Damian has taken advantage of her before. She walks out and Lily apologizes to him. They sit down and he tells Lily that he loves her and understands why her family hates him. He takes her upstairs so she can nap. She asks him to stay with her so she won't start sleepwalking again. As they sleep, she imagines Holden is with her.
In Oakdale, Lily tells her mother that there is no proof that Holden is alive but she feels that he is. That's not good enough for Lucinda; she needs something concrete before she'll write a check. Lily admits that Jack thinks this could be a fraud too but went down to check it out. She knows it isn't logical but she has hope again. She tries calling Jack but he tells her that it looks like it was a hoax. Lily cries to her mother. She still doesn't feel like she's lost him. Lucinda thinks that's just because Holden is still in her heart. The topic turns to Damian and Lily asks her to back off. She refuses and tells her she needs to stop this before Damian ruins what's left of her family.
Meg goes to see Lucinda who tells her that the ransom was all a hoax. Meg hands her the papers she took from Damian's room and tells her that it looks like he never had the tests run. Lucinda's not surprised and decides to give the papers to Jack.
