Dusty angrily walks into Emily's office and tells her about the shooting. Emily is shocked. Dusty demands to know where Josie is and tells her to stop playing both sides of the situation. Emily swears she doesn't know anything except that Josie wanted out of Oakdale. He leaves to find her.
At the hospital, Meg sits with Paul, who is still trying to tell her what happened. Meg tells him not to talk. Paul says, "I tried to be a good husband." The doctor comes in with surgery consent forms so Meg goes into the hall. Emily arrives and sneaks into Paul's room. He is out of it; she tells him Dusty came to see her. Paul weakly tells her to back him up! Emily says she can't lie; Meg returns and asks Emily to leave. She watches the two of them from the hall. An orderly wheels Paul in to surgery. Meg sees Emily and asks what she is doing there. Emily tells her that Dusty told her about the shooting and she was worried. Meg emotionally says Paul could die and starts to cry. Emily comforts her. Meg asks what Dusty told her; Emily says he didn't say anything but Meg doesn't believe her. Emily finally tells Meg that Dusty is out of his mind with grief over Jennifer because of Josie; she says Paul was just in the way. "If anyone is to blame, it is Josie," Emily says. The doctor returns and says Paul made it through surgery. He sends Meg in to see Paul; Meg sits with him and tells him Emily told her everything and she will stand by him. Meg says she feels sorry for Dusty but nothing more. She tells him how much she needs him and how much Eliza is going to need him. Crying, she kisses him.
At the hotel, Dusty questions Emily about Josie. The more he questions the more information she lets him in on until Dusty thinks she hired Josie! He grabs her and throws her onto the bed; Emily cries that she didn't hire Josie and she was just presuming what might have happened. Dusty lets her go. He wonders who did it and decides it had to be Paul; Emily doesn't dissuade him.
Meg sits down to rest in Old Town. Emily sees her and says she didn't mean for all of this to happen and that Meg doesn't deserve this. Meg is confused but Emily hurries away.
Emily meets up with Dusty as he is making plans to fly to Norway to follow the lead to Johnny. He tells her about it and she volunteers to go along; he says he is taking Josie! Emily can't believe it and tells him he's being stupid. She says Josie is a con artist; Dusty won't listen. "Don't tell me you're in love with her," Emily says. Dusty doesn't reply and she realizes he has deep feelings for the other woman. He leaves. Paul comes by and Emily tells him about Dusty's plans. He pretends he doesn't care but that only angers Emily. She says he has to expose Josie for Barbara's sake. Paul says Babs doesn't believe Josie's scheme is real. Emily asks what he really wants; he says he wants Dusty gone for good and he wants her to have a good life. Emily feels better when he says she is a wonderful woman.
Emily has a drink at Yo's and then leaves. When she comes around the corner, she sees Josie and Paul! Josie hands Paul a wad of cash and says she wants out! Paul refuses and tells her to finish the job! He says if she doesn't go to Norway he'll tell Dusty the truth about her! Paul calls and finds out the jet left; Josie checks her messages and says Dusty had to leave because of a storm. She says that is proof that Dusty is only after Johnny. "We're done," she says. Paul hands her half of the money and tells her to get lost. She says he'll never see her again but won't take his money. Emily comes around the corner and confronts Paul. He says she is imagining all of this and warns Emily that she better keep her insinuations to herself! "I will do anything to protect my wife and my child from anybody," he says.
Emily goes to The Lakeview and sees Dusty getting on the elevator. She is confused about why he isn't on the plane. She follows him to his room; he is looking at a sketch of a little boy on his bed. Emily walks in and asks about his trip; he says the lead was a dead end. She asks about Josie. Dusty says she is a fake – and he is going to find her!
Emily and Paul meet; she says he isn't helping her enough to get rid of Josie! As they talk, Meg comes by. Emily says Paul won't help her get rid of Josie and it's all Meg's fault! Emily angrily says Josie is going to hurt Barbara but Meg defends his actions. "He's all yours," Emily says, frustrated. She leaves. Meg asks what Paul saw in Emily; he says it was temporary insanity and then tells Meg that Emily lied to her! They walk to Al's and Paul tells Meg everything; he apologizes for not being honest with her before but says he was trying to protect Babs. Meg says telling her now is proof that he has changed. He kisses her.
Tom and Margo are getting Daniel settled at the house when Emily calls to check in. Daniel is excited to see her and invites her over; Tom approves but Margo thinks this is a bad idea because Casey is coming home soon. Tom says they can't keep Emily away from Daniel just because Casey and Emily broke things off. Emily arrives a few minutes later with video games for Daniel. He goes upstairs to play and Tom suggests that Emily leave so they can get ready for their family dinner. Emily and Margo exchange barbs about family; Casey arrives – with Alison! The sisters are shocked to see one another. Casey says he invited Alison because she's been helping him figure out his future. Daniel comes back downstairs; he asks if Emily can stay for dinner, too. "Oh, sure, the more the merrier," Margo says. Emily gets snarky with Alison about her job help. Casey finally comes clean and tells them he was expelled. Alison says there are other schools; Emily continues her snarky comments to her sister until Tom says they need time to talk. Emily takes Daniel upstairs but Allie stays with Casey. Allie asks them to listen to Casey because his heart was in the right place. They listen but neither understands Casey's actions. Margo and Alison go into the kitchen; Alison says Casey's heart really was in the right place and if they will stand by him now, he can get through this. She turns to go but Margo asks her to stay.
Outside the door, Tom gets quiet. Casey tells him to say anything but Tom isn't sure where to start. "You've been given one second chance after another and you just throw them away," he says angrily. Casey says he doesn't care what the future holds as long as he doesn't wind up a suit like Tom! Tom goes back inside and runs into Emily; he blames her for Casey! She says this has nothing to do with her. "His problems started way before he was with me," Emily says. Tom says seducing a kid isn't a plus; she storms out and runs into Casey. He asks why she cares about his education; she says she cares about him. "Why? Did Dusty dump you again?" Casey asks. Emily says she realizes she made a mistake – and kisses him! Alison sees them. She angrily says they are acting badly and turns to go back inside. Casey asks Emily to leave! She goes inside to get her things. Casey tells Alison that Emily started it but he doesn't know why – and he doesn't care why! Margo calls them to dinner. Tom resets the kitchen table because Kim and Bob have begged off from dinner because the soup kitchen is packed. Margo says Casey's actions weren't that bad when compared to the problems of the homeless. Emily says she isn't staying. Casey, Alison, Tom, Margo and Daniel sit down to dinner. Casey apologizes for going off on his dad. Tom and Margo offer prayers of thanks for their family. "As long as we've got each other, we have everything we need," Margo says and they eat. Emily watches through the window, crying.
