Adam tries to make a deal with God, Tad wants to stay with Dixie, Krystal begs Tad to return to her, Kendall and Zach celebrate Spike's birthday, Greenlee makes her presence felt at the birthday party.
Josh arrives at the Slater's with Spike's cake. He updates them on Tad as Ryan and Annie arrive. Emma is home sick; Kendall realizes Annie isn't doing well either. Ryan and Kendall don't speak and when Ryan goes to get a drink Annie asks what is wrong. Greenlee arrives, makes a catty comment about stealing Zach away and delivers her present. She continues on to Zach and when he asks if she wants anything she says, "You already told me I couldn't have it." She walks off leaving Josh to ask Zach what is going on. Zach clams up. Spike arrives and with everyone focused on the kiddo, Annie asks Greens what she is doing. Greenlee tells her she lost Aidan - because of Kendall! Across the room, Kendall tries to talk to Ryan but he won't talk about Greens. Josh interrupts with Spike. Zach sits with Annie and notices her watching Kendall and Ryan with Spike. Annie brings up Spike's first birthday party and says she feels now like Greenlee did then - like an outsider. Greenlee and Ryan are sitting with Spike. He tells her to stop acting overly happy but she insists she is happy. Annie watches them with Spike. Across the room, Zach, Kendall and Ian are watching, too. Kendall worries what Greens might be plotting. Zach is more concerned with Annie; Kendall thinks Annie is just overwrought because of Julia's death. Annie makes her way to Greens, offering her condolences on the death of their relationship. Greenlee says she's over it. Annie says if she was in the same position she would fight for her man. Kendall brings Spike to the cake and they sing "Happy Birthday". Greenlee stands outside the circle, feeling left out.
Jack visits Erica in prison; she is glad to hear that Tad is out of surgery. He tells her about Greens learning about the one night stand. Afraid her family desperately needs her and that she can't help, Erica tells Jack she has to get out. Jack says she is needed just as badly in the prison but Erica wants to be with her family more. They touch their fingertips through the wire. Jack promises to visit again soon. Erica is taken back to her cell.
Aidan walks up as Jake is trying to keep Adam out of Tad's room. He swears he can help Tad but the men lead him away from Tad's room. Krystal walks in to the room, wondering why Tad won't wake up. She takes his hand and wonders how to bring him back. She promises to love him more if he comes back but questions whether she should let him go this time. She hears Adam, Jake and Aidan arguing outside and tells them to settle down. Adam begs her to allow him to see Tad. Krystal tells Aidan and Jake she can handle Adam. When they leave, she begs Adam to leave them all alone. Adam says he can save Tad but she doesn't believe him and orders him to stay away. Krystal returns to Tad's side. Aidan comes in for a while. Jake returns and Aidan takes off for a bit. Krystal asks if there are any changes but Jake doesn't see any improvements in his condition yet.
Adam goes down the hall and tells Dixie he needs her help. She doesn't come to him so he tries to make a deal with God, saying he wants to come forward but he doesn't want to lose his entire family just so Tad will be happy. Adam reaches into his pocket and finds another of the adoption certificates.
At the Chandler mansion, JR is emailing everyone about Tad's condition when Babe walks in. She says they'll be planning Tad's welcome home party soon. She wonders when they should tell Kathy about Julia but JR isn't sure. Colby, little A and Kathy wander through, playing a marching game. Babe turns to JR when the kids are gone and says how happy she is that they have each other - even though they can't be married. Adam calls and orders JR to bring Kathy to the hospital! Once there, Krystal tells them to take Kathy home, confusing them. Adam walks up and tells them not to take Kathy anywhere. Kathy asks about Julia, but no one is ready to tell her the truth. JR and Babe take her for a snack. Krystal turns on Adam, who finally makes her listen. Adam says seeing Kathy could turn things around for Tad - because he'll think Kathy is Kate! Adam shows her the adoption certificate and then barges into Tad's room. "Come back! Kate's here," he says.
Down the hall, Opal and Ruth talk about how they'll baby Tad when he comes back to them. Opal notices Palmer sitting alone down the hall and goes to him. They exchange barbs but then Palmer reaches out and takes her hand, letting her know she isn't alone.
In the dream, Tad and Dixie walk toward the light. At the last minute, Dix pulls away and says she can't be with him! She says she will always be in his heart but that he has to go back to life - with Kathy! "The children need you Tad, they need their father," she says, begging him not to leave Kathy or Jenny without a dad. She finally gets through to him and starts to walk away but Tad stops her. He doesn't want to live without her and begs her to stay with him. Crying, Dixie hugs him and says there are rules. Tad doesn't want to hear that. Dixie says she loves him and hugs him. Just then, they hear Adam's voice telling him that Kathy is Kate. Dixie fades away!
