Di and Aidan are at the conFusion New Year's party, trying to find the Fusion killer. Babe is also there, along with Amanda, Josh and others.
Amanda tells Babe that Josh is totally in love with her. Babe says that she's committed to JR—but Amanda sees the compact Josh gave Babe for Christmas, and suggests that Babe still cares about Josh. What if JR sees that, asks Amanda?
Josh tells Jeff that he's going to honor Babe's decision, even though she's the only woman he's ever loved. Jeff tells him to take "advantage of any signs" Babe gives him.
When a tipsy patron starts flirting with Babe, Josh rushes up and decks the guy. Babe tells Josh she wishes him love and happiness in the new year. Jeff has to leave, and tells Josh that if he wants Babe, he should go after her.
Kendall has rushed to meet Zach at their new house, and after hearing his story, can't believe Zach killed his mother. She gets him to tell her everything. He recounts how she fell to her death when he was five. Kendall calls it a "horrible accident" but Zach insists some information is missing.
He tells Kendall that there are so many gaps in his memory of the day his mother died. Kendall promises to stand by him—no matter what. But what if he killed his mom, asks Zach?
"I don't need your help," says Zach, saying he regrets bringing up the matter. Kendall urges him to not shut down, but a stoic Zach insists he's fine.
Kendall urges him to plumb his memory about the events leading to her death. He struggles to do so. He says that he was told his mother fell because he caused her to lose her balance. It was an accident insists Kendall, but Zach can't accept that.
Bianca is incredulous at Zarf's assertion that he's Zoë, a lesbian. And why has he chosen her? Zarf says she's very special and that he loves her. Bianca tells him that she doesn't love him. In fact, she doesn't even know him. "I can't love you…I don't want to love you," Bianca replies.
Zarf says he thought Bianca could see his soul, and love him for who he really is. When Bianca challenges that, he accuses her of being like everyone else, and being defined by society's labels.
Zarf continues that he's finally who he was meant to be because of Bianca, since she gave him courage. Bianca disagrees, and insists that a person comes out because of themself and their unwillingness to live a lie.
"I can't be responsible for what you're going through…just leave me out of it," says Bianca. Zarf insists that he has never lied to her and that the longings of his heart remain the same. It's not a game, he insists, and says there is something about him that is driving her crazy.
Bianca insists that she doesn't believe him to be who he claims to be, and demands he leave, and as she closes her door, Zarf breaks into sobs.
He returns to the Fusion office, where he finds a sketch on the computer—and Di in the shadows. Aidan rushes in, collars Zach and demands to know his reason for being there.
Bianca goes over to conFusion, where she runs into an old acquaintance—and the sparks are obvious.
"About those gifts…" says Jack to Erica.
Jack and Erica are at home, as the New Year's Eve "swans-a-swimming" and "milkmaids-a-playing" entertainers arrive, along with dancers and pipers. The yacht for their intimate dinner is waiting on the dock, and it's getting close to midnight.
Suddenly Jack asks them all to leave, to Erica's dismay, and eventually she learns that the "J" gifts didn't come from Jack. To Erica, this makes their reunion a sham. It's not that Sean sent them, says Erica, it's that he didn't care enough to woo her back.
Jack says that they're happy now, but Erica says that this proves he really doesn't care about her at all. Jack shoots back with the fact that Erica moved out of their house—and took up with Jeff. She insists it's not about any gifts, and she finally understands that she doesn't understand Jack at all.
There's a knock on the door, and it's Jeff responding to Erica's emergency call. "Is everything all right?" he asks. "It is now," replies Erica. "Why did you call him?" asks Jack. Erica says it's because she needs another date, kisses Jeff and leaves with him.
