AMC Rant
Week of June 22 - 26:

This week I am seeking the background knowledge of the Soaps.com All My Children regulars as I struggle to assimilate what I'm seeing/feeling and what I'm reading from posters. Let's take a run-through the week and I'll ask questions as I go!

Annie/Ryan: I have been puzzled as to the back story between Ryan and Annie, and how it has come to be that many people seem to have a bone to pick with Ryan, while defending Annie to some degree. From what I've seen the past three weeks, other than being a little intense at times (i.e. lurking outside windows), Ryan seems to be a pretty good egg. I remember him from the days of his romance with Jillian, and liked him back then. Annie, on the other hand, seems to be a user, a nutcase, and as of Friday - the killer of Stuart! So, are we to believe that she was trying to kill Adam - the very man she is now kissing and mooching from?! I am liking Aidan and Ryan working to set her up, and I also liked Ryan and Erica provoking Annie at the dinner - Erica's lines were positively cracking me up - her delivery is divine! So, if you feel differently, enlighten me as to why - please!

Liza/Tad/Jake: Fantastic scenes this week! All of them do comedy and sarcasm very well. How lucky AMC is to have this bunch of actors! I can't wait to see how they're going to try and pull off this ruse. Colby and her lovesick sidekick, Petey, are a hoot too!

David: He's scary. He makes me feel as though he knows something is going on, and he's putting on an act hoping that someone (Amanda) will cave! Should he find out what they've done - oooh - the stuff will really hit the fan!

Brot/Taylor: This whole engagement to Brot seems bizarrely contrived - engaged and breaking up on the same day? What is the history of this couple - are many of you invested in them? I think she might be good with Tad - although I worry they might be boring.

Soaps.com
Frankie/Randi/Henry: What a strange little love triangle - who'd a thunk it?! Oddly, as unlikable as Henry is, I find myself drawn in by his intense love for Randi in their scenes together. When he's being the cold D.A., however, he just comes across like a very mean boy/man who needed a good spanking a long time ago! Nice to see Frankie wiggling his fingers! I don't know much about this character, but I know I like him anywhere but sulking in a hospital bed!

JR/Marissa/Scott: This could possibly be a really unappetizing triangle. Scott does nothing for me, and Marissa is barely, well, bearable. JR, I would like to see with a really intriguing, sexy woman, not a girl. Am I wrong? Tell me your thoughts…

Madison/Zach: Interesting new character they've brought on in Madison. They've succeeded in making me curious about her. She also shares chemistry with Zach, so I wonder how far he'll wind up going to help Kendall's case…

Pretty good week on the whole! Nothing really turned me off completely, and I enjoyed each day's episode, but what I'm really interested in is hearing from the Soaps.com AMC regular posters - take a minute and help me out - see if you can enlighten me about a few things. Thanks!

Re: Annie/Ryan. Annie came to PV with Emma, running from her ex-husband who was trying to get custody of Emma even though he was a child molester (tho' not convicted.) Ryan's sister helped hide Annie & Emma in Ryan's penthouse while Ryan was elsewhere. It came out that Annie conceived Emma by using a sperm bank. Ryan pursued Annie relentlessly - especially after finding out that he had been the donor Annie used and was therefore Emma's biological father. Annie resisted Ryan, knowing that he was still in love with Greenlee. But he kept at it and professed his undying love for her and Emma. He finally convinced Annie and Annie let herself fall in love with him. (Annie was a wonderful mother who created fairy tales for Emma and did all sorts of things for her and with her.) Then Annie finally agreed to marry Ryan. Once married, everything seemed fine. Then Ryan was shot and "forgot" about Annie and started pursuing Greenlee. IMO he then proceeded to drive Annie crazy on purpose just to get his hands on Emma - whose father he'd been for all of about 5 minutes - and to cut Annie out of Emma's life completely. Like Adam, Ryan's take on fatherhood is all about "ownership" and not about what's best for the child. And that's why so many of us who are mothers can't stand the guy. (At one time he was so intent on NOT being a father that he almost beat up Greenlee when she told him she was pregnant. Then he drove a motorcycle off a cliff and pretended to be dead to avoid the responsibilities of fatherhood. He never takes responsibility for any of the consequences of his actions but blames everyone else instead.) Anyone who thinks he's a "great guy" must also think it's okay to drive someone insane on purpose - which is what he and Erica are doing now. Annie has been in a mental institution and is trying to find her way back but they are trying to send her over the edge again. That's disgusting!

Annie/Ryan: What I saw was a man who NEVER loved a woman and used her love for him to gain access to HISDAUGHTER. Annie was golden until Greenlee came back and he was shot in the skull and he forgot her and his vows. I see no honor in his behavior towards Annie. That he has devoted himself to torturing her (regardless of what he says his reasons are) is completely annoying and distasteful to me. I hate Ryan/Aidan because once again another character has suffered to make that idiot (Ryan) look good. Add Greenlee’s participation (blaming Aidan for not being stupid enough to fall for her continuum of lies) and you have some concept of why I loathe this twist. As for Gillian – that was the last time Ryan was palatable but he fell from favor with me then when he so coldly turned his back on her after she slept with David for RYAN’s bail money only to turn back to her when another man showed interest (wait, this is what happened with Greenlee and Kendall – I see an annoying pattern!).
Liza/Tad/Jake: I want David to find out and win custody. Amanda is the twit who slept with him sans protection, decided that she would have no chance against him in court and then conspired to make him think that he had lost a third child. I want this stupid plot to come out and want David to win full custody. Amanda is a twit and Jake isn’t much higher on the IQ scale. Liza is just pathetic and completely out of character. In light of the debacle with Colby, “Liza” would have been running around trying to convince Amanda to stand up to David in court using her as counsel.

jr/Marissa/Scott: When I look at jr all I see is a spoiled little boy playing dress up. Until I see him support himself and stop waxing poetic over the woman he tried to kill and who told him that his son was dead and stop blaming “daddy” for all of his ills I couldn’t care less who they pair him with because I won’t watch it and yes, Marissa and Scott are boring as hell. Marissa jumped on Krystal’s hypocritical band wagon so fast that it made my head spin – “David is evil!” Oh yeah, you don’t even know him you chuckleheaded twit!
Madison/Zach: I hope they don’t go there. Zach/Dixie was awful for both characters and I don’t see this as being any better. I also think he needs to stay off the Liza bandwagon. Imo her current plan makes her a bigger nutcase than Kendall ever was and IMO they have no chemistry (I don’t think Liza has chemistry with anyone) and frankly “woman who Zach inexplicably saves” is OLD.

I liked Ryan and Jillian and wish they could bring her back, because frankly I cann't stand him with anyone else. Ryan ran his motorcycle off road, to play dead to keep from being a father. Now all you hear him say is "my... my... my.... my" when it comes to his two kids. Neither of which he willingly conceived. The kids are always an after thought with him and he spends as litlle time as possible with them. Tired of him whinning! Erica has a lot of nerve trying to drive someone to anger, even if that someone stabbed her. She's stabbed, shot, knocked out and kidnapped people in the past and should be willing to give others the same benefit of the doubt that she's received. Looked up hypocrite and it showed her face as an example. As far as Aidan working with Ryan and Erica to send Annie to jail, it's either a farce or he's forgotten that he enabled Annie in her quest to escape, instead of ensuring she got the help she needs.

Bottom line I have a problem with Ryan, Erica and Aidan working to send Annie to prison instead of truthfully working to get her the help she needs. Ryan doesn't want to share a possession (Emma, who Annie raised for the first five years) and Erica doesn't want her encroaching on her territory (Adam).

Liza/Tad/Jake- The baby s/l, got a one word comment....DUMB!

Ryan TRIED to get Annie the mental help she really needed. But others kept interferring, including Annie herself. Ryan wants to protect Emma.

Wow! Thanks to those who took the time to fill me in - seems a lot happened in the few years I was away from the show. Next stop is YouTube, where I will try to watch some of these old scenes and get a feel from where some of you are coming from. So, why do you all think that the writers are making Annie out to be Stuart's killer? Is it their way of making Ryan look better, perhaps?

Thanks again, and remember, when you read my perspective, why it differs from yours.

Have a great weekend!

Well Candace, I don't think the writers are making Annie out to be the killer. That flashback Annie had only proves she was at the scene of the crime. Nowhere in the flashback does it show Annie shooting Stuart. I don't believe the writers would reveal the killer to us this early in the game. They sent us fishing, and we caught a Red Herring!
