Aidan's turning into a Listening Leo! (Soaps.com)
Pondering Pine Valley
October 6 - October 10

Hey, Pine Valleyites! It was a crazy week in Pine Valley and we have a ton of things to talk about, but first, I have to talk a little bit about Eileen Herlie (Myrtle). We learned that she died this week and send out our most heartfelt condolences to her friends and family. You can read about Eileen's death and career here.

More than that, though, I personally feel that loss even though I never met this grand lady. From the time I was little I can remember my grandmother and then my father watching All My Children; even when I didn't know the difference between actors and the characters they played I was entranced by this straight-talking character with flaming red hair. As a little kiddo, I wasn't really allowed to watch everything on in soapland, but I caught glimpses from time to time. You know what I remember? Phoebe and Myrtle plotting, Myrt giving Erica advice, fighting with Adam and trading friendly barbs with Palmer.

With her goes a little bit of the history of Pine Valley and soaps in general. Characters come and go and so do the actors who portray them; sometimes it seems that we no sooner get used to a character than the character is recast. While I don't fault actors for moving on to Primetime or movie screens, I do find it a little bit sad that Daytime doesn't have those familiar faces the way they used to. I'll miss Eileen's portrayal of Myrtle and mourn her passing and the passing of a little bit of Daytime history.

On with the blog!

Kendall and Annie

Could someone shoot both of these characters? Last week I went on and on about how I don't fault Annie for the way she is acting. I'm still hanging on to that thought but my grip is loosening. Why? Because Annie knows she isn't getting Ryan back; that's simply not going to happen. But she is still letting Kendall get her goat, so to speak. She's played right into Kendall's hands by letting her care for Emma. You know what she needs to do? Call Children's Services because Kendall is completely in the wrong for not letting Annie so much as see Emma but letting Ryan spend the night! I'm sorry, but that would not fly. Of course, calling Children's Services would mean that Emma would be sent to strangers, but why couldn’t she suggest JR and Babe? Or even Krystal and Tad? They, at the very least, would ensure that Annie is allowed to see her child!

While we're on the subject, I loved that Zach let it be known (without flying off the handle) that it was not okay for Ryan to sleep over. And Kendall, what's up with that? Hello! He's a grown man with a huge penthouse; he doesn't need a place to sleep no matter how 'tired' he is. What a lame excuse! Admit it, woman, you're in love with the sap about ready to go charging after him, leaving Spike, Ian and Zach alone.

Krystal and Opal

Is there anything funnier these days that hysterical Opal? I realize the woman has scared herself silly but every time she starts in on bad dreams and Tarot cards - and every time she gets Krystal going - I just have to laugh! These two Southern Belles are hysterical. They should take their act on the road.

Krystal uses cleaning as therapy. (Soaps.com)
Krystal can play straight-woman to Opal's hysterical creature and they'd earn a ton of loot. You know what I found funniest, though? That Opal's dire predictions enhanced Krystal's nesting instincts. I don't know about you guys, but if a psychic told me doom was coming to my family, the last thing I'd be worried about is dust bunnies under my sofa!

Tad's Investigation

I love that Tad is slowly being pulled back into the investigations business. Wanting to be a full-time dad aside, he is a great investigator with a nose for a story. Nothing is better than Tad snooping around into the personal lives of his friends and family - and something tells me the mystery client is none other than Taylor's supposedly dead fiance!

Snooping Aidan

You know any time a soap character - or, heck, your baby sister! - snoops through your things, bad stuff is going to happy. So usually I'm all for not snooping. This time, though, I feel really bad about what is going on. I understand why Aidan felt he had to keep an eye - or ear! - on Greenlee. Ryan is obviously not going to leave her alone, she is obviously torn in two over her men and even when she laid down the gauntlet with Ryan about leaving her alone we knew she was only doing it for face value, didn't we? Still, when he heard Greenlee talking to Ryan on the phone and when he heard Jake and Amanda kissing (and thought it was Greens and Ryan) I really felt for the guy. His expression was so forlorn, like somebody just ate all of his Halloween candy and left him with the stupid boxes of raisins. Poor, Aidan!!

Adam and Petey

To me, this partnership is a match made in heaven. Petey isn't as naturally evil as Adam, but he does have a sneaky side to him. Even though he's doing this to impress Colby, I see some real potential for Petey to become the next Villain of Pine Valley! Many of you agree with me. Last week I polled you guys about the Adam/Petey connection and 46% of you wanted them to keep up their dastardly deeds! Some of you (about 15%) want to see Adam and Petey team up against Zach for control of Cambias and, I have to say, that would have me glued to the TV for the entire storyline! Adam and Zach have great chemistry and I can just see him trying to figure Petey out. Plus, there would be the added value of Palmer coming around. That is the one thing missing from the Adam/Petey storyline right now: a little bit of Palmer!

JR and Babe

A lot of you guys were livid when Babe and JR announced their big moving plans, especially since Bella had just tanked. You know what? I don't blame them. I do think Babe should have volunteered to stick around through the mess, but I can understand why this blow-up made them see that they needed to leave town. And, she did volunteer to let them place all the blame on her shoulders.

They've been living their lives through other people - Adam, Krystal, Colby, Amanda - for too long! If they really do want a fresh start, the only place to do it is outside of Pine Valley

That's the way I saw Pine Valley this week. What did you think? Talk to Soaps.com about it below!

I really do not understand why Ryan gets the blame for everything in town. He did not choose to get shot in the head and lose his memory. That is where this terrible sl started. I blame that idiot psychiatrist who told him he never really loved Annie in the 1st place. We, viewers know that is a lie.
And up until yesterday, he had left Greenlee alone. Give him credit for that at least.

Annie's s/l has been awful. We watched Ryan convince this woman to marry him. Kendall & Greenlee both can go crazy. Take A M C off the air! The writers always give them what they want. Zach sucks! He manipulates everyone but his wife.Bring on the tornados!

I agree with your comments on the weeks event. I am tatally looking forward to the tornadoes, but I don't think they should kill Babe off. Looking forward to a break from Kendall, think she and Greenlee should occupy the same room in a coma ward. Aiden just can not seem to get a break. He and Tad should go back to being partners. I was sorry to hear about Eileen Herlie passing, I have really enjoyed her Myrtle over the years (don't know what Zack's going to do without her). I really hope the show gives her a nice send off.

I do not like Ryan anymore. The way he is treating Annie is terrible. He never wanted to be a father to began with. He told Greenlee he didn't, he tried to talk Kendall into giving Spike up. He doesn't deserve to have Emma. Annie is good mother and she has taken care of Emma. Ryan is stupid to choose Greenlee. He did love Annie and he should let her see Emma as much as she wants. It would be a better show if they killed off Greenlee and Ryan instead of Babe. I hope Annie gets her own storylined away from Ryan and Greenlee. She should also get Emma back. Emma wants to be with her mother and she should be.
