Sydney Penny Leaving AMC!

Monday, May 05 2008

Sydney Penny (ABC.com)
After more than a decade of time spent in Pine Valley - minus a short bit of time away from our favorite fictional town - Sydney Penny is moving on. Soaps.com has learned that Sydney is leaving the show in just a few weeks!

When she first arrived, Sydney's Julia was one of the many members of the Santos family. She and then-husband Noah left town when he was placed in the Witness Protection Program. Julia returned to Pine Valley in 2005.

With Maria, Mateo and the rest of the Santos crew off to greener pastures, Julia took over the care of Wildwind.

She invited several other characters to move in, including Aidan Devane, Jonathan Lavery and Amanda Dillon to name a few. Then, last spring, her friend gave her custody of 5-year-old Kathy (who we now know is Tad's missing daughter, Kate).

In the last year, however, a front-burner storyline for Julia hasn't developed. The character has been in most hospital scenes but normally only to take patient's vital signs or do quick check-ups.

The storyline surrounding the Kathy/Kate mystery is heating up this month. Dixie's ghost has returned to torture Adam into revealing the truth so that Tad can be with his daughter. Rumor has it that Julia will leave town to take a job elsewhere soon after the big reveal.

But, that has several fans asking why Julia has to go.

FalconBoy12 said, "Just because we find out Kate is Tads, why must Julia get the boot? This should bond Julia and Tad. Since Dixie is dead and Krystal still seems into Adam, they should have a little foursome story, it would be interesting to see how this all turns out.

Others disagree and say that since there isn't a good storyline surrounding the Julia character, it makes sense for her to leave town.

Treester said, "Julia hasn't had a decent storyline since she came back on the show. She is virtually useless. Once Tad finds the kid, there is no need for her. Similar to now, no need for her."

Sydney Penny's last airdate as Julia is set for June. Soaps.com wishes Sydney the best of luck with her future projects!

What are your thoughts on the casting change? Does it make sense for Julia to be written off the show? Or should the writers take a different tack and create something great for the character? Drop us a comment here and we'll discuss all the options!

I totally disagree with this move. There is NO reason why Tad can find out that Kathy is his child, but still be raised by Julia. You are just ripping the child from a mother that she has come to love. And it is not in Tad to take her away from Julia. He just needs to be more involved in her life, which he will be. The writers cannot even see a storyline in front of them! They could have a custody battle with an ending of shared custody, and Tad being the main parent. That would keep Julia in Kathy's life. Come on writers! Sydney you will be greatly missed. I loved seeing you when you were on. Best of luck in whatever you do!

I wish there was a good story line to keep her on AMC. Even bring back her family. Or should I say some of the family. Maybe next time if she comes back.
{Good Luck in what ever you do Sydney Penny }

i"m very desapointed about this decision i really expect Julia and Tad to raised the kid together, especially, knowing that krystal will probably go back to Adam, so tad will end up alone with 2 kids hummmmmmmmmmmmm, Anyway good luck for Sydney

Sydney is such a wonderful actress! If only they could bring her character of Samantha back to The Bold and the Beautiful that would be great!

Sydney Penney is a wonderful actress. I have enjoyed everything she has ever acted in. The writers are missing a golden opportunity in not keeping her, even after the "secret" is out about Kate. I have never felt any chemistry between Tad and Krystal. A bonding between Julia and Tad would be great. Are they intending to snatch Kate from Julia? Can't fathom that!

Sydney is a wonderful actress and deserved to be treated much better than AMC actually treated her. She is a well-established actress (both daytime and primetime) and could have been a real asset to the show. It's a shame that the AMC writers are so pathetic they couldn't even come up with a storyline for her when, in fact, fans came up with several good storylines for Julia. Unfortunately, AMC (and especially the producers/writers) wouldn't know talent if it slapped them across the face.

Julia, you are way toooo good an actress to waste time on a soap than doesn't even appreciate your talent. Good luck to you in your career as I am sure you will have great success in the future. We will miss you terribly!!

It's too bad that Mr. Frons thinks everyone is as crazy about Kendall, Ryan and Greenlee as HE is! Unfortunately, they are the main reasons I QUIT watching AMC (after 38 years too)! Now I have one more reason to add to my list ... firing yet another great actress from AMC.

I just hate the way AMC gets rid of all the decent characters they have had, Brooke, for one. I'm still angry at them for that move, Liza, she was one of the best characters on daytime. Now Julia. If they had given her a decent storyline, maybe things would have been played out differently. They insist on rehashing the same characters on a daily basis. It's tiring, boring, and now we're stuck with a ghost, acting like a complete idiot. I'm truly starting to hate this show. I hardly watch the first half hour of it anymore. Y & R is much more exciting than this trash being shoved down our throats.

I would have preferred that Julia (Sydney Penny) stayed in Pine Valley. I think she has been underutilized as an actress. What a great storyline, IMHO, it would be to have her and Tad get together. I think they have good chemistry together. Friends first relationships do better in real life, why not in Soap Opera land too? Best of luck, Sydney!!!!
