Hey Pine Valley, a couple of new faces will be on your television screens very soon: one vibrant young - and imprisoned! - woman and one hunky young ex-medical student! Soaps.com has learned that in April, Ricky Paull Goldin will join the cast as Jake Martin. In March, Elizabeth Rodriguez joins the cast as "Sugar" Morales - Erica's cell mate!
Let's talk about the new guy first. Ricky Paull Goldin is no stranger to daytime television. He appeared on "Another World" in the 1990's and then on
The Young and the Restless, as Gary Dawson, in 1999. Most recently he has starred as
Guiding Light's Gus Aitoro. He left that role earlier this year.

As Jake Martin, Ricky will have immediate connections to more than half of Pine Valley. Jake is Joe and Ruth Martin's son, the adoptive brother of Tad and Jenny, uncle of Jamie, adoptive uncle of JR and adoptive great-uncle to JR's son Little Adam. Which will also put him in the storylines with Krystal, Babe, Julia (Kathy/Kate's adoptive mother) and probably the recently returned Hubbard family, too. Jake, known through childhood as Joey, has been married twice. His first marriage, to Emily Ann Sago, ended when Emily lost her mind. His second marriage, to Gillian Andrassy ended in divorce after Gillian miscarried their child. He soon became involved with Greenlee and Mia but neither of those relationships lasted. Jake was finishing his medical degree when he left Pine Valley in 2003. He called nephew Jamie in 2007 and asked Jamie to help him at an African clinic.
What will life hold for Jake in Pine Valley now? Will he return to work at the hospital? We'll have to wait and see!

Also joining the cast is Elizabeth Rodriguez. This big-screen actress has appeared in movie block-busters such as "Miami Vice" and "Blow" and television shows such as "Oz" and "Six Feet Under". Her character is Carmen "Sugar" Morales, a convict and Erica's cell mate! A huge "Erica" fan, Sugar is likely to insinuate herself into Erica's life long after Erica's upcoming 6-month prison stay is over. Just how will she fit into life in Pine Valley? We'll find out in just a few days! Elizabeth Rodriguez's first appearance as Sugar is set for mid-March.
