KATHY MERSHON/KATE MARTIN'S HISTORY
Kathy came to Pine Valley with her mother in 2007. After her mother's death, Kathy went to live with Julia Santos. She bonded very quickly with Julia and Jamie Martin. Through Jamie she came to know Tad Martin and developed a strong relationship with him, too. Throughout this time, Tad was searching for his biological daughter, Kate, whom Dixie had given up for adoption.
Adam Chandler blackmailed Amanda Dillon into stealing some information from Wildwind, in that box of information was Kathy's adoption certificate and the information that Kathy was really Kate. Adam tried to blackmail Krystal, saying he would tell Tad about Kate if she would come back to him. Krystal turned him down.
In 2008, Dixie's ghost returned to Pine Valley and haunted Adam into revealing the truth. Kathy was thrilled that Tad was her father but she did not like Krystal being part of their life. She tried to get Tad to leave Krystal or Krystal to leave Tad but none of her actions worked; Tad finally realized what was going on and the family began to have counseling sessions.

Thursday, December 11 2008: What's Going On Here?
After making Krystal milk, David settles on the sofa with her. Kathy comes downstairs and asks him to play a game with her. Krystal suggests they read a book instead and Kathy goes to get the book. Krystal thanks him for being so nice. David brings up Tad and Krystal says Tad understands what is going on with her. David doesn't believe her; she asks for more milk. David questions her more but Krystal won't budge. He realizes she lied to Tad; she says Tad wouldn't understand. David suggests that Tad is a jerk for not understanding her needs. Kathy returns, tells David she likes him and hugs him. Krystal sends Kathy upstairs to get ready for bed and David turns to stare into the fire. "I have to go," he says when she invites him to stay a while longer.
Friday, December 05 2008: An Invitation and A Manipulation!
Tad and Krystal are decorating the house with Kathy. The little girl grabs a cow ornament that was Babe's and Krystal freaks out; Kathy runs upstairs, upset. Krystal breaks down, unable to face Christmas without Babe. Tad says she has to be strong for the girls. She grabs her coat and heads for the door; Tad tells her to get dressed first but she runs away. Angie and Jesse arrive with silly Christmas decorations but Tad isn't interested in decorating any longer. He says the party is over because of Krystal. Angie offers to talk to her but Tad says she ran out and he doesn't know where she went. Angie leaves to find her. Tad and Jesse sit down and talk about the upcoming holidays. Tad says even with Kathy it is going to be hard to celebrate this year, but he wants to make the best of things. He wonders if he can ever get through to Krystal or if the whole season will be ruined. Jesse grabs his Santa hat and shades a few minutes later and leaves. Tad turns to Kathy, who asks if everyone has a special ornament. He spots the cow ornament and tries calling Krystal; she doesn't answer so he leaves a message and asks her to come home.
