Instincts.

Colby, JR, and Marissa arrive at the Martin house and greetings abound. Tad gives Joe a red speedo to wear in Florida, then tells him that their real gift is that he will fly them back for a visit in the summer. Joe and Tad discuss Jake - Joe hopes he will stay and pick up the family reins at the hospital. Tad says he's just dealing with the Hayward mess. Tad asks Joe his advice about the David Hayward tip. Joe says he should follow his instincts. Jake and Amanda play with the kids, then discuss David - Jake says his instincts are on high alert because he's burned them before. Tad asks Krystal to watch the kids so he can make a quick trip out of town. She is taken aback at the timing, but agrees. Tad gives her a gift for Marissa - it's an ornament like her sister's.

Joe and Ruth, still at the Martin house, speak to Jake about leaving Pine Valley. Jake is dismayed at the idea of them not being around. Joe says there's nothing he can do to change their minds - and Pine Valley will always be home. Jake hugs them, then returns to sit with Amanda and Trevor. She is glad they didn't fight today - this Christmas celebration has meant a lot to her. She says that when David is gone, Trevor will truly belong to them. She notes that when she looks at her son she sees so much of Jake. Jake says there isn't anything of him in the boy though. Amanda asks him to let her dream.

Clean Slate.

Krystal chats with Amanda and Jake at the Martin house. They joke about Jake having his birthday around Christmas. Krystal mentions that Tad got a call and left - she thinks he went to see Liza. Jake wonders if it has to do with David's gift. He puzzles over whether to get involved or not. Krystal says maybe he should if this has to do with David's sayonara speech and his dirty mojo! Amanda tells her that David's words were from the heart!

Liza and Tad are at ConFusion discussing the demise of D.A. Willis. She remarks that David may be able to shed a little light on this. Tad turns to see David come in. Liza says she called him. David comes over and Liza asks about Willis's fate. David laughs and says it's win/win. He talks as though Liza will automatically become the D.A. Liza says she hasn't decided yet. David doesn't really care - he just wants her to draw up the custody papers for Amanda and Jake. Tad and David get into it about how sincere David is being. Amanda walks up and asks if there's a problem. Jake takes Tad's side, and Amanda becomes upset at them circling a dying man like sharks! She leaves with David, and Jake asks Tad to smash him in the head with something heavy!

Opal is back at the Martin house with Krystal when Tad and Jake come in. Jake says he lost control where David is concerned again. Tad reminds him how Amanda grew up - with Janet from another planet! Jake goes on a rant about it being Christmas and his wife is nowhere to be seen - she's at the mausoleum! Liza arrives and helps with some wrapping before saying she has to go. Tad walks her to the door and asks if she's decided about the D.A. job. She hasn't. Opal peeks as they hug and Liza kisses Tad on the cheek before leaving. There is another knock at the door - it's Amanda - she announces that something is going on with David - she overheard him at Wildwind booking a private jet to go to Gloucester!

We Can't Go!

Jake and Amanda are in bed at home. He tells her that it seems she is more concerned about being with David right now than with him! Amanda denies it. They get up and kiss some more. They discuss gifts and Jake pulls out two huge bags full, saying Santa came early! Amanda squeals with delight. They joke about how things will go on Christmas morning, and Amanda goes into her suitcase to get Jake's gift. She discovers one that she didn't put there - it's for Trevor, from David! Amanda asks Jake to guess what she got him - he jokes some more. Amanda sits back and sighs again. Jake suggests she phone David and invite him over - she's obviously thinking about him - which is exactly why he put the gift in her bag! Amanda argues that David is done manipulating people. Jake throws his hands up and says he doesn't want to fight with her. The baby cries and Amanda leaves the room. As she returns, Jake pretends to have gotten a call from the hospital and takes off! Amanda lets Trevor open David's gift - it's a daddy and baby polar bear set - for his first Christmas! She calls David, and puts it on speakerphone for Trevor as David sings him a lullaby!

Jake comes into the Martin house ranting to Tad about David leaving the gift in Amanda's bag, and how she's defending him - it's driving him crazy! Jake insists that he doesn't know what to do, but Tad tells him he should fight! He urges Jake to give his family the best Christmas ever - David can't compete with real love. Jake murmurs that David is up to something, but Tad feels it doesn't matter.

Jake returns to his house as Amanda is letting Trevor listen to David sing through the phone. She cuts the call short and explains. Jake says it doesn't matter, and kisses her.

Kendall Finds Zach!

At the benefit, David tells the group that he’s dying of a rare blood disease and has only six months to live. JR challenges him but he claims it’s true. Marissa storms out of the room. Krystal rips into him for telling his daughter this terrible news at a party. She runs after a very upset Marissa to console her, but JR follows and suggests that maybe it’s not true. Krystal holds Marissa as she cries.

Jesse asks Angie if she knows who planned the event. She tells him it was David and fills him in on David’s announcement about his pending death. Adam suddenly challenges David about faking his demise. Amanda stands up for David. Adam tells Jake to keep his wife on a shorter leash because she tends to stray. Angie tells Tad that she’s going to go check on Marissa. Liza wants a drink but Tad prefers horse tranquillizers as he thinks they’re going to need them.

Back in the main room, Liza tells Adam to back off and demands that Annie take him home. Adam and Annie walk away from her to get another drink. Tad comes up behind Liza, sits her down, and teaches her deep breathing so that she can relax. She asks how he knows this and he admits that Opal brought home a tape of meditation techniques.

David begins to hand out his gifts. The first to receive theirs is Jake and Amanda. Their gift is that he is giving full custody of Trevor to them and asks Liza to draw up the paperwork. Adam objects and says that the next thing is that David will want custody of little A. David says he will never do that. David tells Annie that he has nothing for her as she already has everything she’s ever wanted.
