In her room, Randi wakes up. Frankie tells her what he knows about what happened to her; she asks for privacy but he won't go. Frankie implies that he knows about the prostitution but she denies it, insisting that she is a waitress and a temp at an office. Frankie doesn't believe her. She says her boyfriend sometimes hits her. "When are you going to stop lying to me?" Frankie asks. Randi finally admits that the cash was from a john and angrily tells him to go away. Angie hears her raised voice and asks Frankie to come with her. Outside the room, Frankie says he is just getting to the truth. Angie advises him to keep his distance. He ignores her and returns to Randi who tells him to leave her alone because she can handle herself. He tells her to fight back and make changes in her life - by pressing charges against her pimp. She won't. Frankie leaves. Randi wakes up later to find her pimp in the room! She smiles at him but he is angry about Jesse's insinuations that she talked to the cops. Jesse and the two cops listen just outside and when he threatens Randi, they come in and arrest him! Jesse follows as the cop leads the pimp away. He turns and tells Angie that he couldn't leave the case alone.
Frankie brings Angie in to consult on Randi's case. Frankie says he has been working with Randi and refuses to believe the officers who brought her in - they say Randi's a prostitute. Jesse arrives and tells Frankie to listen to the cops. Jesse tries to be the go-between for the cops and for Randi but the cops don't want him anywhere near their case now that he has chosen the University position over the Chief position. Jesse tries to explain that the Chief position wasn't right for him. The two cops give him a really hard time about it and then tell him there is no doubt that Randi is a prostitute. Angie watches Jesse with the cops and then sees Frankie sitting by Randi's side.
When Angie freaks about Jesse's job, he calms her down and says he is talking about the professorship at Pine Valley U! He says helping the next generation become good cops is all he needs. Frankie and Cassandra arrive and are thrown by the announcement. Frankie corners Jesse, who says being a professor-cop is enough for him. Cassandra, meanwhile, corners Angie to say Jesse deserves to have a job he loves - not a job that his wife wants! Frankie leaves for work as Angie brings dinner to the table. She prays, thanking God for Jesse's job. After dinner, Cass asks Jesse if the University job is really what he wants. Jesse insists it is. Angie hears them talking. A while later she thanks him for considering the family in his decision. Jesse wonders if he'll be a good teacher. He kisses her.
Tad is playing with Kathy at home when Jesse stops by and tells him about the problems with Angie. Tad puts Kathy down for a nap and then tells Jesse to go back to Angie, apologize and listen to her fears. "Two decades, that is a heck of a scar," Tad says but Jesse doesn't want to listen. JR stops by with a doll house for Kathy. Kathy plays with the house as JR and Tad talk about Dixie and the good things she did for them.
Angie asks Krystal over to the apartment and tells Krystal her fears about Jesse being back on the police force. Angie says if Jesse asked, she would quit her job but he won't do the same for her. She picks up some glasses and drops them. Krystal sides with Angie, who begins to talk out the real issues with Jesse returning to the cop life. She says she can't hold her breath worrying about Jesse but she can't make him be a person he isn't. Krystal leaves. Jesse returns a while later, hugs her and says he took the job!
Jesse and Angie go to the Yacht Club to have a picnic. Angie can't stop talking about JR and Richie - and the rookie cops that Jesse helped. "If you brought me out here about the job, you're wasting your breath!" Jesse says. He says being a cop kept him alive the past 20 years. Angie says being a cop nearly ruined their relationship because he had an affair! Jesse says she has to let go of the past because he only wants her. He says he also wants the job and Angie flies off the handle. She says she deserves respect and that if he takes the Chief position, he'll be disrespecting her! Jesse says she is being irrational and acting just like her father. Angie packs up the picnic basket and storms off.
Jesse takes Angie to the hospital for a graveyard shift; Angie is covering for a friend. They talk about work for a bit and Angie asks if he is really okay with not taking the job. He says he'll be fine and then mentions a dinner with an old friend, Detective Parks. He says Parks is going to talk to him about a professorship at Pine Valley University. Frankie walks by Jesse and Angie. A nurse catches him to tell him about the woman he treated several days ago; she is back.
JR arrives at the hospital with Richie; Angie takes his case. JR says he found Richie like this on the street. She has his old files pulled. Richie finally regains consciousness and says JR is poisoning him! Jesse walks in, followed by Babe and asks if JR really tried to poison Richie. JR says he was at a stoplight when he saw Richie and Richie started confessing about the kidnapping! JR says he must be the one who stole his bone marrow A police officer arrives. Jesse takes Babe to the hall and asks about Richie. Babe says JR is telling the truth and Richie must be just trying to cover his own crimes. Jesse asks if there are any witnesses to JR's story; Babe tells him about Treena. Angie walks in to tell them Richie is stable but weak because of the marrow transplant. Babe asks if Richie really could have stolen JR's bone marrow. Angie begins putting two and two together and says he could. Babe and JR talk about what really happened. JR swears he didn't do anything to Richie and was just trying to get information. Babe is still worried.
Jesse finds the cop and asks about JR and Richie. The cop believes JR but admits the story is very convenient. Another cop arrives and says Richie wasn't poisoned but there are marks on Richie that could be from JR tying him up. They talk about arresting JR but Jesse advises them to keep digging. As they talk Angie walks in and Jesse asks her to help the men investigate who gave Richie the bone marrow. He continues down the hall and looks in on Richie. When he is alone, Richie calls Annie! She won't talk to him. Angie returns and Richie turns on the charm, telling her how JR tried to poison him. He plays the victim card but Angie doesn't believe him.
Jesse runs into the cops, who have done a little more investigation again. He tells them about Treena's claims and says they should talk to her - and start getting an arrest warrant ready for Richie! Then he gives them the name of an old DA friend of his who is now a judge; he says the man might be able to help them. He is at the admit desk with the cops when Angie returns. The cops thank him and he says he was just helping. The cops go to JR and ask for Treena's contact information.
