Jesse and Angie are enjoying breakfast - and she's explaining why she is now serving light syrup and turkey sausage - when Cassandra walks in and says she has to return to Paris immediately because Jacob is having emergency surgery. Angie offers to go with her but Jesse says Cass can't go. She immediately freaks and says he isn't her father. Jesse tries to explain that she can't go because of the charges, not because he doesn't want her to go. She calls him a control freak and sullenly says Jesse only cares about getting publicity. She rages on and on; Angie steps in and tells her to give Jesse a break but he gives in and calls the DA to see if he will allow Cassandra to leave town with charges pending. When they are alone, Angie turns on Cass, reminding her that he has done nothing to make her feel this way. Cass cries that Jesse doesn't care about her at all. Jesse returns and says he just talked to Jacob and there is no life-threatening surgery, just a routine operation. Angie yells at Cass, who won't admit to any wrong doing. She insists that Jesse hates her, that he would do more for Frankie if he were in her place and runs from the room. Angie focuses on Jesse and says she knows he treats both kids the same way.
At the Hubbard apartment, Taylor tells Jesse and Angie about her family's military history and says she was very impressed with Frankie in Iraq. She mentions that she is going back for another tour, which angers Frankie. She says she is needed there. Then, she goes to her bag and takes out a Silver Star, which Frankie received for his service there. He is annoyed that Taylor brought it and says it doesn't mean anything. Taylor, Angie and Jesse think differently. They ask what happened but Frankie doesn't want her to tell the story. Taylor tells them that during a suicide bombing and attack, Frankie saved 14 soldiers by dragging them away from the battleground. "But I didn't save everyone," Frankie says. Jesse and Angie give them some space. Frankie asks how long Taylor is going to be around and she says until her new orders come in. He says she'll never survive Iraq until she realizes the war cannot be won! Frankie looks at Taylor's foot, which has been giving her problems for months. He says she has to get her injury fixed or she'll never make it through a tour. He offers to take care of her treatment himself. She says no. Frankie walks her to the door, worried about her. She swears she is fine; he hugs her. Randi walks up and sees them together. She turns around and leaves.
In their bedroom, Angie turns to Jesse, nearly in tears. She finally realizes just how dangerous his life was while he was deployed.
At home, Jesse is giving an officer orders to look for the lug wrench along the highway when Angie arrives home. She asks when things are going to get back to normal, with Frankie as well as Cass. Jesse says Frankie can handle himself and he'll protect Cass. He says all of the kids may get off because the hit-and-run may have happened after Richie was already dead. Cassandra and Frankie arrive. Jesse tries to make nice with her but she takes everything he says the wrong way and storms out. A woman in an Army uniform knocks on the door and asks for Frankie - it's Taylor! Frankie hugs her and they laugh, making Jesse and Angie curious.
In the garage, Jesse questions what Tad is doing. Tad says Jesse should get on board so they can figure out who actually killed Richie. Tad goes ahead with his breaking and entering and Jesse turns his back so that he won't compromise any future investigations. Tad notices that, for a car that hit a tree, it is in surprisingly good condition. He says most of the damage looks minor - like someone hit the car repeatedly with a pipe! Tad checks out more of the car and realizes one of the tires looks brand new. He checks the trunk and sees that there is no spare tire and that the wrench is missing! Jesse says an awful lot of things are disappearing - and every missing thing surrounds Annie! He remembers what Angie said about the head trauma; he realizes Dre may be innocent.
The Hubbards arrive at Tad's for a family barbecue. Cassandra wails about Dre's arrest, and when Jesse says Dre is out on bail she already gets very upset because he hasn't called her. Jesse says he is keeping his distance because of the pending charges against the girls. Cassandra tries to leave but Colby stops her. Tad takes Jesse to the basement while Krystal and Angie try to distract the girls with food preparation. Angie hugs Cass and tells her that she and Jesse love her. Cassandra says, again, that she was just trying to protect her friends. Angie asks how serious things are between she and Dre which annoys Cassandra even more. She thinks Angie disapproves of Dre because of his legal troubles. Angie says she disapproves of the relationship because they are too young to go fast. Cass says she should worry about Frankie's relationship with Randi. Angie says Frankie is old enough to make hard decisions. She walks away.
In the basement, Tad shows Jesse his man-cave. Jesse is torn up about Cassandra and Angie. Tad says he and Krystal have been arguing practically non-stop, too. Jesse is worried because the DA is pressuring him to indict Dre - or any of the kids for that matter. He says he's considering stepping down from the Chief position. Tad powers on his video game and over a game of bowling, talks about who is most likely to have really killed Richie. Jesse says Zach, JR, Kendall and Greenlee are off the list. Jesse wonders if someone helped Richie escape. They switch to baseball and Tad suggests Ryan as the culprit. Jesse says Ryan has an alibi. He brings up Annie and Jesse tells him Annie's story about the movie. Tad says he should question Annie again. Jesse mentions that Annie had the body cremated very fast and wonders if she was covering up evidence. Tad asks if Jesse checked Annie's car after the hit-and-run. He says he didn't and that it's too late now because Annie had an accident just the other day. Angie comes down and tells the men the kids are calmed down and the food is ready. Tad realizes he forgot about dessert and runs to the store for s'mores. Jesse follows him.
In the penthouse garage, Tad is about to break into Annie's car when Jesse startles him!
At the police station, Samuel takes a call from Carl as Jesse gives Dre his walking papers. Melvin is there and once Sam is off the phone, leads them away. Zach arrives and asks to see Annie's accident report. An officer goes to get it; Jesse arrives. Zach says he is looking into Annie's accident and Jesse says it is an open and shut case. The officer returns with the file and Zach leaves. Jesse says he wants a copy of the accident report, too.
Meanwhile in the squad room, Jesse and Samuel come to an agreement to keep all of the kids out of jail. Jesse leaves to check on Dre. Erica arrives and asks if there is anything she can do. She reaches out to Sam just as Jack arrives! Samuel thanks Jack and fills him in on Dre's confession. Jesse returns. Jack asks about Adam's arrest and they leave to go over the case file. Sam thanks Erica for coming by and then several reporters burst into the room asking question after question about Erica, Dre and Sam's political career. He says he will stand by Dre no matter what that means for his career and then leaves. The reporters question Erica. She will only say that she supports Sam and Dre. Jesse returns and shows the reporters the door.
