Annie tries to distract Ryan, who is fuming in the office at Fusion. He won't be distracted and asks both Kendall and Greenlee to talk things out - privately. When they leave, Babe and Di wonder what will happen if things implode between Kendall and Greens. They encourage Annie to go with Ryan but Annie insists on giving them space to work things out. Still, she is afraid that if things don't work out things will go downhill fast for Fusion because Kendall might run! Babe makes a call and the music deal is back on the table! With that good news, Di thinks things may be changing for the better. She believes that a custody suit would be a slam dunk for both Ryan and Kendall. Annie and Babe aren't so sure since they have both been in the court system before.
In the lounge, Ryan goes back to the beginning - the bigamy charges. He goes over her failed attempt to get Zach behind bars and then this - her trying to take Spike. Neither he nor Kendall understand what she is trying to do. "What I want is something that belongs to me!" she exclaims. Ryan promises that if she tries to follow through she will fail, but if she will work with him and Kendall now she might have a chance to win something. Kendall isn't sure where he is going and begins to get worried. Ryan compares handing Spike over to Greenlee to her childhood, being raised by Mary and Roger. Greenlee doesn't want to see the similarities. Instead, she brings up how neither Ryan nor Kendall wanted children in the first place, believing that she is the only one who should raise Spike. Ryan suggests a negotiation and possibly letting Greenlee have a part in Spike's life. "Oh, no. I'm not negotiating with her," Kendall exclaims! Ryan tells her to shut up and listen or leave. Kendall backs off. Greenlee thinks she is gaining the upper hand and driving a wedge between Ryan and Kendall. When Greenlee tries to turn things around by reminding them that they didn't want Spike, Kendall strikes back and reminds Greenlee that she had a chance to be in Spike's life - as his mother but she walked away! Greenlee places the blame on her leaving on Kendall! She believes that Kendall traded their friendship for Zach and that is what really bothers her. "I will hold that baby," she promises, telling them that she will see them in court. Ryan interrupts them, making Kendall admit that they hurt Greenlee in the past and then makes Greenlee admit that loving Zach isn't something Kendall should have to apologize for. "Spike has two dads but only one mom," Ryan says, "try to find a place for Greenlee in Spike's life." Kendall insists that Annie is the second mother that Spike needs, not Greenlee! Ryan asks Greens to give them some time alone and she leaves.
Smug, Greenlee returns to work. Annie hands her some papers to sign and without looking Greenlee does. Babe lets her know that the music deal is back on the table. Di asks how things went in the other room, but Greenlee doesn't say much. All is quiet for a moment until Greenlee tells them that Ryan is now on her side! The girls can't believe what Greenlee said and tries to make them believe that Kendall is the bad girl in the situation. She reminds Babe and Annie about Kendall's past actions. Greenlee wonders when Kendall changed her tune about Annie; Annie won't play her game, though, and says they became friends simply by working together. Greenlee gets snarky and Annie gets mad, wondering why Greenlee is only now interested in Spike. She advises Greens to get involved with Spike's current life and not make him an accessory to hers if she wants to reunite with Kendall!
In the elevator to Fusion, Annie advises Kendall to play things cool and not let Greenlee know that the custody papers are bothering her. When they arrive, both are quiet and get right to work. When they don't say anything to her, Greens pushes the point and begins badgering them about their feelings. She tells them it is obvious that something is bothering them. Still, neither Kendall nor Annie will talk about Spike or the custody problems. Finally Kendall breaks and explodes in anger at Greenlee's custody suit. She swears that Greenlee won't take her child and that if she doesn't drop the suit it will be the end of everything for Greenlee in Pine Valley! Greenlee is happy to see how badly Kendall is taking the court papers. She tells both women that she has a right to "her child"! Greenlee keeps pestering them, certain that she will win Spike. Annie interrupts Kendall and Greenlee as they fight, but Kendall won't stop. Fed up with Greenlee, Kendall turns from Greenlee and begins going over sales numbers with Annie and Di. The women wonder if their buyers will come back if they can manage to get the music back. Greenlee listens but doesn't help them, especially when they bring up Babe. She tells them they can make a comeback without Babe and without Babe's contacts. When they suggest that Greenlee get Babe to come back she initially freaks out and refuses. Eventually Greenlee agrees to call Babe, who agrees to come over and talk. When she arrives, Greenlee offers her a job with a small raise. Babe demands more. She gets what she wants and all the girls, except Greenlee, are happy to have her back at work!
An angry Ryan arrives later and pulls Kendall and Greenlee away to talk things over.
A bitter Greenlee is puttering through her dark and empty penthouse when she decides to pull out a box of old photographs of herself with Ryan and with Kendall, circa The Good Old Days. The photographs stir up memories for Greenlee; mostly memories of the day she walked out on Ryan and Kendall nearly two years ago. She’s wallowing in self-pity and resentment, and in Greenlee-speak that’s usually a dangerous combination. When she unearths Spike’s sonogram, the memories turn to imagination and Greenlee is treated to a “vision” of “what might have been – a glowy Kendall delivering the baby boy that should have been Greenlee’s, Greenlee and Ryan at her side, a new pink baby being handed to proud mommy Greenlee. This vision seems to generate a typically-vengeful Greenlee idea, and soon she’s making a mysterious phone call, urging the person on the other end to get over to the penthouse right away!
Meanwhile, Kendall, who is busily packing for the big move to the big new Slater house, unearths some memories of her own. She, too, is leafing through photos of Greenlee and herself – happy, smiling, best friends, sisters – and finds herself walking through the past as well. Zach urges Kendall to let go of the past and just concentrate on the future, but Kendall can’t help but feel sad when, in packing, she runs across the spoon that she, Greenlee, and Simone used to mix Fusion’s very first batch of lipstick in Kendall’s kitchen. All this emotion and work catches up with Kendall, who suddenly doubles over in pain. Is the baby in trouble? Zach calls the doctor and it turns out Kendall is just fine, but now she has the guilts about the new baby. “I can’t mess this up,” she tells Zach. “You need this baby.”
In the Lavery house, Annie’s got a handful of photographs herself – photos of her wedding with Ryan. Ryan comes home, carrying a box. Annie’s still stressing about Greenlee, about her presence in their lives, and about Ryan’s willingness to stand by Zach and Kendall, even if it risks his ability to be there for Annie and Emma. Ever the romantic, Ryan marches Annie to the rug in front of the balcony door, and proceeds to dump the box, which is full of sand, all around her. With the sand, a couple candles, and some sentimental mood music, Ryan reminds Annie of the very first time they went to the beach together, and pushes her to try to keep that moment in their lives whenever things get stressful and overwhelming. Despite his attempts, his whole-hearted “I love you’s,” and much kissing, Ryan isn’t able to make Annie’s doubts go away. “If Greenlee hadn’t left, you’d still be madly in love with her,” she says, “…And I don’t know how to fight that.”
An elated Greenlee hands some papers to a well-dressed man, who in turn hands them to two couriers to get them delivered right away.
Just as Kendall and Zach are getting ready to head out the door to move to the new house, one of the couriers shows up at the condo with the delivery. Kendall pulls out the paper and…lo and behold it’s from Greenlee.
At the same time, the other courier hands Ryan an identical set of papers at the Lavery house. It’s a custody suit from Greenlee. She wants Spike!
