JOSH MADDEN'S HISTORY
Kendall, Greenlee and Simone were breaking into Greg Madden's clinic when his son Josh caught them. In exchange for keeping their secret, Kendall got him a job on her mother's TV show, New Beginnings. Josh couldn't understand why his father wasn't pleased about his new position, and noticed he wanted to distance his son from Erica at every turn. The whole thing was puzzling, but Josh figured the two must have had a past history.
When Josh met and befriended Babe Carey, Erica was totally annoyed because of the whole baby switch fiasco, and she warned him to stay away from the woman. Her words went unheeded as Josh pretended to have an affair with Babe to get Jamie Martin to leave her so he could inherit his aunt's wealth.
Being the producer of Erica's show wasn't enough for Josh. He wanted more, and began drugging her to make her look ridiculous on camera. He set up newly-hired, Amanda Dillon to take the fall, and although Erica originally believed it was Amanda, she eventually learned the truth and fired Josh.
After saving Erica's life at the Mardi Gras ball, Josh, who had completed his medical degree, got a job at Pine Valley Hospital. Unfortunately, Greg Madden was not well-liked by the people of Pine Valley, and Josh was not well-received.
Jeff Martin returned to Pine Valley, and it looked as though Josh might redeem his reputation by being part of a hand-picked team for a medical assignment, but a secret that came to light explained Jeff's interest in Josh.
Josh's attraction to Babe continued to grow, despite her protests that she loved her husband, JR, and wanted to make their relationship work.
What Josh didn't know was that Greg Madden was not his biological father, Jeff Martin was. Jeff and Erica had conceived a child, and Erica had decided upon abortion. Rather than terminate her pregnancy, Greg had stolen her embryo and implanted it in his own wife. When Josh discovered the truth, Babe consoled him and tried talking him into accepting his newfound family.
Greg Madden was found dead by Colby Chandler upon her return to town - somebody had buried him alive. Anyone who was involved in the search for little Emma Martin was immediately a suspect. Josh was an emotional wreck, torn by hatred for what Greg had done to Dixie and other women, and loving him for the man who raised him. Josh cast a suspicious eye on JR Chandler and Jamie Martin as suspects in Greg's death, but in the end, Dixie and Zach were arrested. The two were later freed when Tad concocted a lie that cast doubt on their guilt.
Babe eventually faltered and fell into Josh's arms, giving him hope of a future with her. Unfortunately, Babe chose to return to JR, hoping he would forgive her. While in a drunken stupor and searching for Josh, JR went to Josh's hotel room and ended up taking a header off the balcony. It was Josh who saved his life. Josh fought alongside Zach and Ryan to save the Fusion women; Zach and Kendall used him to save Babe after she was attacked. He helped to fake Babe's death and then tried to get her to come away with him; Babe wouldn't leave her family. She broke things off with Josh.
Alone for a while, Josh began having an affair with Hannah Nichols. Their relationship was short-lived; Hannah left town. Josh continued to stand by his family and when Kendall went into premature labor with Ian, Josh helped to save the child's life. He and Zach bonded over Ian and Zach offered him a high position with Cambias. At the same time, Josh began sleeping with Greenlee to keep an eye on her for Zach and Kendall; their affair was short-lived.
Josh used his position to embezzle $20 million from Zach; Kendall helped him leave town and now Josh is on the run.

Tuesday, September 09 2008: Kendall Defies Zach!
At Erica's, Josh says Zach is off the deep end. He says Zach wants to kill him because of his relationship with Hannah and the fact that Greg Madden raised him. Erica is shocked and doesn't believe him at first but the more Josh talks, the more she doubts Zach. Josh drops the bomb: that Zach is framing him for embezzlement. She asks if he took any money. Calling her mom, Josh swears he is innocent. Erica decides to go to see Zach; Josh tries to stop her but she insists on going. Josh says he just needs to get out of town so Zach can calm down; he asks for money. Erica refuses; Josh begs her, saying that he can't stay. She leaves but tells him to stay. Josh waits for a moment and then tries to break into her safe!
Kendall walks into Erica's suite as Josh takes an envelope of cash from the safe. She tells him to trust her to take care of things and keep Zach in line. Josh says Zach is crazy and turns on her, telling her that being her babysitter wasn't enough of a family connection for him. She nearly calls him a mistake but stops; Josh knows what she was going to say, though, and says he is the only family he needs. "The guy who shouldn't exist just wanted to go somewhere that no one knew him," Josh says. He says he stopped being a person and started being an accessory for the Kane's as soon as they found out about the un-abortion. He asks what she is going to do. She calls Ryan, who is about to go for a motorcycle ride, and asks for help. When he arrives, Kendall asks Ryan to help Josh disappear! Josh tells her to stop but she won't give in. Ryan says he can't do it and Josh goes off on a tangent about Kendall using Ryan to slow Josh down. Ryan says he needs help from Tad; Josh refuses. Kendall suggests Aidan and when Josh tells her she isn't helping she says she could just leave him hanging in the wind.
Monday, September 08 2008: Annie's Desperate Measure!
Kendall asks what Zach is doing. Zach says Josh has been stealing from them, to the tune of $20 million. Josh sticks with his I'm-Being-Framed story; Kendall believes him but Zach refuses. Harris finally calls back and reports that no one hacked Josh's computer. Josh tries to work on Kendall but Zach angrily tells Josh to come clean. "Fine. I took the money!" Josh exclaims. Kendall can't believe it. Josh says he was using the money to build is own business but that the economy turned. He swears he'll pay it back. Kendall asks how he could do this to the family; Josh says he has no family because he was just a mistake! He says he wasn't going to use Madden's dirty money to build his success. Kendall says stealing from his family is not better than what Greg Madden did. Zach stops their arguing by grabbing Josh. He says Josh knows what has to happen next and leads him to the hall where the goons are waiting. Josh begs Kendall not to let them kill him. Zach shuts the door and Kendall asks what he is really going to do. He won't give her a straight answer, even when Kendall suggests letting the police handle things. Zach says Josh has to disappear or their business will suffer. He watches Josh on a surveillance camera and says they won't survive a public investigation. He says he understands why Josh did what he did but that he can't forgive - or forget! - it. "So, I'm going to make him disappear. Don't ask me anything else," Zach says. Kendall begs him not to do anything and watches the cameras, too. She asks if she can talk to Josh. Zach gives them a few minutes alone. She maces the guards and lets Josh run off. She stops Zach when he tries to follow. Zach sends the men after Josh. Kendall says if he does anything to Josh, they are through!
Sam stops by Erica's room at the Yacht Club to tell her that the charges against Dre have been dropped. Erica asks about his campaign. Sam says he is staying in the Senate race but that he is taking Dre on the trail with him. He asks Erica if she'll tag along, too! She is flattered but turns him down. He swears she won't hurt his chances in the polls. She says that isn't it; she says she needs time to come to grips with who she is outside of prison and who she wants to be. She says she has let too many people, namely Jack, hurt her in recent weeks. Sadly, Samuel accepts her words. He asks if they can see one another once the campaign is finished. Calling him Senator, Erica says they'll see what happens. Sam leaves. Jack calls, says he was an idiot for going out with Carmen because Mondo just convinced her to rob an ice cream truck. She hangs up on him - and then snaps back to reality. Josh barges into the room and begs her to help him escape Zach!
