Annie goes to visit Richie at the Lavery offices. She has research on leukemia treatments and Pine Valley Hospital. Richie takes the folder and tosses it in the trash. She asks if he is faking the illness but Richie just keeps playing his games with her, not telling her anything. Richie waves at the camera in the vent and tells Annie that Ryan knows she is there and he'll be coming to her rescue soon. Annie tells Richie that she is done being terrorized by him. "What better way to go than to take you with me?" he asks. Annie tells Richie she wants to be real and honest with him. Angrily, Richie tells her about his real life in prison. Annie reaches into the trash and hands him the papers again. Richie doesn't take them. "Don't you want to see me die?" he asks and Annie tells him he is already dead - in his heart! Ryan walks in and tells Richie it's time for them to go on a trip!
JR Tries To Seduce Ava!
Annie pours Ryan some coffee, very strong coffee. He tries it and likes it. Jonathan arrives and Ryan asks him to partake in some of the "miracle" coffee but Jonathan turns it down. Ryan tells Jonathan about Richie's latest scheme (the leukemia diagnosis). Jonathan asks Ryan if they can talk about Ava. He fills them in on the engagement but they already know, having seen the papers. Ryan realizes something is wrong and Jonathan asks his big question. "Do you think I'm throwing my life away by marrying this girl?" he asks. Annie points out that Ava has done some strange things - like the Mohawk 'do - but that she seems like a nice girl. Jonathan brings up Lily, asking if they think it is strange that he is marrying a look-a-like. Neither knows what to say. Jonathan tells them that he loves Ava and they wish him well. A few minutes later Kendall and Zach arrive with news about Spike. The ear infection is gone and Joe says Spike can have the implant surgery! They are all very excited with the news. Kendall asks Ryan if she can pick up Spike that afternoon and he agrees. Jonathan brings up Ava and the wedding date - there still isn't one - and an engagement party. Ryan suggests that he take things over, since he'll probably be the best man. Jonathan teases that Zach will be the best man! Then things get serious and Jonathan asks Ryan if he'll stand up with him. Ryan agrees. Ava calls Jonathan and asks to see him ASAP. She is nearly in tears and tells him to hurry to the house. Jonathan leaves.
A while later later Greenlee arrives at Ryan's penthouse, stunning Zach, Kendall and Annie when she asks Ryan if they can talk.
...And the Plots Thicken!
Richie makes a flip remark about not dying but Annie doesn't buy it. She shows him the pill bottle and asks if he has leukemia. Ryan insists that Richie isn't sick - and the pills are just part of his plan! Richie tells Annie that Ryan is right and the pills are fakes but Annie doesn't believe him. He picks up his briefcase and leaves the office. Ryan points out that Richie is a psychopath and that he had to have planted the pills. Annie has a hard time believing that, though, and worries that he might really be sick. "Richie has done horrible things and he has no conscious but he's my brother. . .I should feel some sort of compassion for him, right?" Annie asks. Ryan says no! He insists that Richie is just trying to manipulate her once again but Annie has a hard time believing that he would fake a serious illness. She talks about identifying the body in the morgue and admits that when she saw him, she didn't think about the horrible things Richie had done; she could only think of the good times. Ryan points out that the body in the morgue was another victim of Richie's and that it was all part of his scheme to get revenge on Annie. He calls Joe Martin to learn how to test for leukemia!
Aidan Found The Embryos - Kind Of!
Annie goes to The Comeback and is startled that Babe is so hostile. She asks Annie about the trial, wondering why she would lie to send Richie to prison. Annie turns away but Babe stops her and asks about the night Ryan shot her. Annie tells Babe to watch out for Richie or he'll ruin her life. Babe blurts out that Richie is sick! Babe stuns Annie by saying Richie is physically sick - with leukemia! She tells Annie how she found the pill bottle and got the information from a doctor she trusts. Babe hands over the pill bottle but Annie thinks it could be a fake. "Do you want your brother to die?" Babe asks. Annie gathers her things and leaves.
Ryan is going through Richie's computer files when Richie walks in with a bag and a plant. Angry, Ryan asks what Richie has been doing and brings out the list Richie has compiled of remedies for hearing loss patients! Richie settles Ryan down by telling him about the research he has been doing into cochlear implants but the more he talks about Spike's hearing the more angry Ryan becomes. Richie hands over a few more documents but Ryan won't take them. He wonders what Richie is really after and Richie claims he is just trying to stave off boredom! Ryan finally looks at the folder and is impressed but still doesn't trust Richie. He throws another long prison term in Richie face but Richie clams up. He points out the camera and tells Ryan that he won't make a mistake on camera but when he does make a move, he'll move fast! Annie walks in and asks Richie when he planned to tell her that he is dying!
Hannah Attacks Adam!
Annie can't believe it when Ryan tells her that he just hired Richie. She calms a little when Ryan shows her a Richie-cam that he installed in Richie's new office. Annie still doesn't like the idea and comments that she needed such a change that she dyed her hair (it's a deep brown now) that morning. Ryan tells her that keeping Richie close is their best option in getting him out of their lives forever. Annie remains uncertain but goes upstairs to get Emma ready for day care. Annie takes Emma to school and comes back home looking for Ryan. He surprises her with champagne and toasts their future. Annie is still distracted and Ryan tries to draw her out of the shell she has been hiding in. Ryan lights a fire and asks Annie to imagine a date of dinner and dancing - no kids, no family dramas, just them. He toasts to their happiness and begins to really smile for the first time in a long time. They dance in the quiet condo and declare their love.
Annie and Ryan make love and afterward Ryan turns on the Richie-cam and watches Richie at work. Richie turns toward the camera and smiles really big!
Stuck In An Elevator
Annie tries to call Ryan from the elevator but he can't understand anything she says because of some kind of interference! He leaves the office and heads home. Annie sets off the elevator alarm. Ryan arrives home and hears it going off. Ryan gets the doors open and Annie hands Spike out of the elevator, followed by Emma. Annie is the last to leave. As soon as she gets out she tells Ryan about the brownie Richie gave Emma. They head for the hospital. As soon as they arrive, Joe walks in and Annie asks him to pump Emma's stomach! Instead of rushing her to the ER, Joe takes Emma's Ryan gets a call from the penthouse maintenance staff who assures him that the elevator getting stuck was a simple electric surge - it wasn't tampered with. Emma returns and tells them that the brownie was left over from the trip to the cabin - weeks ago! - and she only remembered it tonight. Mystery solved, Julia takes Emma off to the bathroom. Relieved, Annie and Ryan embrace.vitals and asks her questions. She says she just has a tummy ache but isn't dizzy; he tells Annie and Richie that there is no need to pump Em's stomach or even to run more tests. Annie insists that Joe pump Emma's stomach but he resists. Joe suggests they take some less-invasive steps and calls Julia to take Emma away. Alone, Annie tells Ryan she isn't sure Richie would have hurt Emma. Ryan insists that of course Richie could hurt Emma - because he is crazy! Ryan gets a call from the penthouse maintenance staff who assures him that the elevator getting stuck was a simple electric surge - it wasn't tampered with. Emma returns and tells them that the brownie was left over from the trip to the cabin - weeks ago! - and she only remembered it tonight. Mystery solved, Julia takes Emma off to the bathroom. Relieved, Annie and Ryan embrace. Annie tells Ryan that she can't keep living this way - in fear of Richie. Julia brings Emma back and they assure her that everything is okay.
Richie Gets A Job Offer
Annie is watching Spike and Emma when Zach stops in. Emma tells him about wanting a puppy. He pulls Spike's blanket from a bag and Annie updates Zach on Spike's condition. He asks how Annie is; she is still worried about Richie. Zach grabs a book about families from his bag and offers it to her. Annie can't stop thinking about Richie, worried that Emma or Spike will be hurt and even worrying that someone outside the family will be hurt. Zach reminds Annie that she is no longer alone and then leaves. Ryan calls and tells her he'll be home soon. She hangs up as Emma comes downstairs with chocolate all over her face. She tells Annie that Richie gave her the chocolate and to keep it a secret! Annie gets really nervous, puts Spike in the stroller and leads Emma out of the condo! "Everything's okay. Everything's okay," Annie says over and over. They make it to the elevator but halfway down, the lift stalls and they are trapped inside!
