Opal came to Pine Valley, along with daughter Jenny, in search of her son Tad. She was determined to get her daughter into show business or a modeling career so she could make a fortune. While they waited for Jenny's big break, Opal made her work in a bar called Foxy's, while Opal took a job as a maid for Phoebe Wallingford, and seduced her husband, Langley. Despite Opal's pleas, he refused to leave his wife for her.
Opal turned her attention to opening a beauty salon, the Glamorama. She met and married Ralph Purdy, and the two left for Europe. Opal didn't return until Palmer Cortlandt enlisted her help in ruining the romance between his niece, Dixie, and her son, Tad. Opal and Ralph had divorced, so she saw this as an opportunity to become the next wealthy, Mrs. Palmer Cortlandt, but Palmer was highly annoyed by Opal's flashy dress and shrill voice, and paid Sean Cudahy to date her. Eventually Sean couldn't stand her, and refused to continue. Opal continued her pursuit of Palmer until they eventually fell in love and married.
Someone was poisoning Palmer and Opal became suspect, but the culprit proved to be an old partner of Palmer's that Opal had dated for a while in an attempt to make Palmer jealous. When fences were mended, Opal and Palmer became copasetic, and Opal became pregnant and gave birth to Petey.
Financial troubles ensued, and Palmer lost control of his business. At Opal's suggestion he opened a fast-food restaurant using her fried chicken recipe to make the Cluck Cluck Chicken Shack a success. The business became a franchise, and Palmer earned enough money to get Cortlandt Electronics back.
Both Cortlands strayed from their marriage, he with Janet Green, and Opal with Seabone Hunkle, but the union survived. The final curtain fell on the marriage when Palmer hid stolen World War II art and refused to surrender it when Government Agents came looking for it. Opal turned him in, then discovered that one of the agents was her long lost son. Palmer faked his own death, but resurfaced, angry that Opal had sided with her son against him. He divorced her, and although she tried to get Palmer's Electronics firm in the settlement, she got Cortlandt manor instead. She promptly turned it into a larger version of her gaudy beauty salon.
Opal, like Myrtle, is a colorful character in Pine Valley history, and both women have a deep affection for Erica Kane. Whenever Erica needs a gal pal, she runs to Opal who, by the way, has recently dropped her last name. These days she's known as just "Opal."

At the hospital, Joe reads a news article telling Pine Valley citizens about a moment of silence for the town today. Opal sees the news story and tells JR and Little A about it; JR takes Little A home. David watches them and then examines Opal; he clears her to go home and then asks about Little A. Opal tells him to stay away from the boy. Colby arrives and tells Ruth and Joe about a woman, Aggie, who they found in the rubble at the courthouse. She says things look familiar and then lowers a book which reads 'All My Children'. Aggie tells them the book is something she wrote. Joe takes Colby and Pete to the hall and tells them that Aggie seems to be fine. He decides to keep her overnight; Ruth comes out and says Aggie knew she was a nurse! They turn back to her but Aggie has disappeared!
Tad and Krystal read the same article, and look at a picture of Babe. JR returns with Little A and says he is doing fine today. She goes to make lunch. Tad thanks JR for staying in town and says Krystal is doing much better. He says he should have hit David harder and more! JR's things are delivered from San Diego, reminding them all of Babe. Opal arrives and JR leaves for the cemetery. Colby and Petey arrive and ask Tad to help them find Aggie. Just then, Aggie walks in the door! She says this is her home! She says she needed to visit Myrtle and Palmer. Tad asks how she can live in his house but she can't explain. She asks Tad about his broken arm; Opal remembers Ray breaking Tad's arm when he was a boy. Opal gets nervous and leads Tad to the hall. Krystal follows. Opal says Aggie's aura is filled with spirits. Tad tells her to lie down to rest but Opal says there is something strange about Aggie. They turn around and she is gone! Opal faints. The kids search but can't find her. Opal researches Aggie and finds out the woman who founded Pine Valley was Aggie! She says Aggie wrote a book called 'All My Children'. "A ghost?" Krystal asks. Joe and Ruth arrive; Opal insists that Aggie is a ghost and probably came back because of the storm.
Adam goes to Tad's and is invited in for the moment of silence. As sirens go off around town, everyone joins hands in their respective homes. Joe offers a prayer for his family, Erica offers a prayer for her family and JR offers a prayer for Babe. Together, they recite the 'All My Children' poem. Aggie appears outside Erica's window and says, "You are all my children." She blows a kiss.
Tad finds JR in the hall, holding back tears. Tad tells him to kiss Babe, tell her he loves her and hold her as long as he can. Tad asks what JR needs; he says he needs a minister – and a miracle! He takes little A into Babe's room. Babe sings, "You Are My Sunshine" to him. Krystal can't take it and goes into the hall. Tad hugs her. Opal walks up and asks about Babe; Krystal says she is dying and Opal falls apart. Krystal blames her because of the Tarot reading and yells at her. Tad tries to calm her down. "I know what it is to lose a daughter," Opal says and hugs Krystal. The women cry together and then Krystal returns to Babe to help her get ready for the wedding. Babe sniffs a daisy over and over and then Krystal places it in her hair. JR returns and watches the women. Krystal tells Babe she loves her and leaves. JR holds Babe's hand.
