Dixie comes to Kendall's house to talk to her. They exchange mutual apologies for the "terrible things" they've said to each other. Dixie wants the get Kendall's input about how to deal with Emma, and how it felt to be adopted.
Kendall tells her that no matter what she thinks about Annie, she is a good mother. Dixie truly believes her child belongs with her—even if it takes some heartache to make that happen. Kendall tells her she doesn't consider her wrong to fight for her child, and that she could have easily been in the same position.
Tad assures Annie that a DNA test will eventually take place, whether or not Annie wants it. And if she's not Emma's biological mother and also didn't adopt the child, she may not have any legal right to Emma. They're going to leave, says Aidan, but they'll be back. Ryan says that until they get some real proof, they'll get no help from him.
Dixie bursts into Jonathan's, along with JR, who demands he tell them where Annie and "Kate" are.
They leave angrily, but Dixie tells JR that they have a connection that can never be broken—a "magnetic connection" she felt the first time she saw him—and the first time she saw Emma. JR assures Dixie that Aiden and Tad will get the answers she needs—but to not do anything illegal or wrong.
JR tells Dixie he's sorry for everything he said to Dixie.
Dixie and Zach are in his office, talking about Emma. He is skeptical of Dixie's claims, and reminds her that David isn't trustworthy. Don't trust anyone, says Zach. Dixie says she trusts him, and he tells her that was also a mistake. "Protect your heart," says Zach.
Dixie realizes that his comments are really about Kendall. She urges Zach not to judge himself. She can understand the dark places in him; she's been in the same place, and she's not going anywhere. "There's only room in my heart for one woman," says Zach.
Dixie says Kendall is making the biggest mistake of her life; Zach says he's there for Dixie, but doesn't believe Emma is Kate.
At the Miranda Center, Adam thanks Dixie for her good wishes, and leaves a "woozy" Krystal with Dixie. Krystal says she knows Dixie saw her with Tad and wants to know if her baby is his. "Well, is it?" replies a skeptical Dixie.
Dixie assures her that her liaison with Tad was a one-night thing, and that she loves Adam and he is definitely the father of her baby. Dixie tells her she really doesn't care, and that her only interest in finding her daughter.
David walks in; Dixie announces his opinion is not wanted. David points out that the relationship between Ryan and Annie is suspicious, and that Ryan isn't going to help her—he'll help Annie. He assures her he'll do anything—anything—to help her get Kate back. He'll kidnap the child!
Ryan and Annie are angry at Krystal for letting Dixie approach Emma at the center. David begs Annie to talk with them, but she vehemently declines and threatens to go to the police. She insists that Emma is her biological child. Dixie fires back, asking if people know about Annie's connection to Dr Madden.
Dixie explains to Annie how Madden took her baby and gave her to another family. Annie says she doesn't have to answer any of Dixie's questions and warns her to stay away from her.
Dixie tells Krystal that she thinks if she can discover what happened, Tad can finally relax. Krystal can't understand her motives, considering that Tad just tried to send Dixie up the river. At that moment, Adam walks in, asking "how's my little mother?" Dixie is clearly shocked to find out that Krystal is expecting.
Dixie tells an angry Ryan that Emma said "my daddy is not my daddy" and accuses David of having ulterior motives, and trying to look good again in Dixie's eyes. David claims he's trying to help—and questions Ryan's motives.
Annie grabs Emma and rushes out of the restaurant, confused and worried over Dixie's outburst. A weeping Dixie begs Ryan to help her get Kate back. Tad tells him about the DNA proof, and Ryan is astounded and disbelieving. David, sitting at a table in the corner overhears all of this.
Tad reminds Dixie that it's not fair to scare Emma, and she's suddenly aghast at her behavior, and begs Tad to apologize to Annie for her. She rushes out of the restaurant. David comes out—and reminds her that she has to keep believing that Emma is Kate—didn't she see it in her eyes?
Ryan accuses Tad of setting up Dixie. Tad tells him that Emma might be his daughter, and asks if Annie has ever mentioned adoption. Tad agrees that he doesn't trust David either, but asks for Ryan's help in doing another DNA test.
At the Miranda Montgomery Center, a rattled Annie talks to Krystal and asks her to call her if Emma has any problems today.
Dixie and David show up there, and she tells Krystal the story. Krystal allows Dixie to talk to Emma. David tells Dixie that "he'll be the one who gave Dixie back her life."
Tad shows up at Dixie's, and she says he has a right to share the reunion with Kate. David refuses to deal with Tad, and threatens to keep Kate's whereabouts a secret. Tad accuses David of playing Dixie and attempting to steal Kate.
Dixie shows Tad the pictures of Kate, and tells about the DNA test. "I think this might be out little girl," she says.
"Let us go to her on our own," asks Dixie of David. He tells her he wanted it to be a whole new beginning for them—but realizes that telling her Kate's location the only way for him to demonstrate that he's not tricking her.
Tad and Dixie rush to the restaurant where Ryan, Annie and Emma are breakfasting. "Oh my God," she says. "It's Kate!" They sit down at a table, while David hovers outside the door.
Dixie and Tad walk over to Annie's table, where Dixie bends down and looks closely at Emma, saying she's a "beautiful little girl." Annie sensing something says they have to leave right away for Emma's play group. "That's my child," says Dixie.
Dixie tells David she doesn't believe him. Does if want to see a picture of her daughter? She grabs it, and he says he saw Kate "live and in person" and tested her against Tad's DNA. It's a match.
Where is Kate? "You'll never know," taunts David.
Dixie asks how he can be so cruel—"just kill me." He tells her what life is like being rejected by her. He tells her that he loved her so much—and she rejected him every time. He calls her an "unfeeling tease who doesn't know how to love." She tells him she's sorry for the loss of his little girl, and for all the pain he's experienced—but that he's got to tell her where Kate is.
He thought about keeping Kate's whereabouts from her—so she can feel the same pain he has. But he can't do that. He has the power to keep Dixie from her little girl—but he won't do it. He shows Dixie a recent picture of Kate [Emma]. She right here in Pine Valley, and he'll take Dixie to her.
Zach will not let Derek arrest Tad for perjury. He and Dixie will confess to the murder of Madden. That means Tad isn't guilty of perjury. And because of the double jeopardy law, he can't arrest them again. Derek is angry. He feels he was played by all three of them. He has no choice but to let Tad go. As he leaves, he ask how do they sleep at night. Zach answers "like a baby."
