Ryan and Annie leave the Inn and go home. She thanks him for all he's done for her and Emma—then tells him "he's off the hook."
What hook is that, he asks? The McDermott hook, she says, and says she's sure he's eager to get back to his old life. He says he has plenty of time—and he wants to spend it with her. He invites her on a date, and she happily agrees.
At the Kane Thanksgiving, Erica asks Jack if it's ok she invited Jeff and Josh, since his invitation of Brooke means "anybody" can come.
There's a disagreement at dinner about who should say grace—when Erica suggests Jeff do it rather than the host, Jack. Myrtle interrupts and says the grace. Erica continues to spread harmony by asking for Jeff to carve the turkey.
Annie tells Kendall that the DNA results prove she is Emma's mother, and that she owes it all to Ryan and Jeff. Later, Kendall suggests to Ryan that he not let Annie and Emma remain in the penthouse. Ryan wants to know why she cares about it.
She tells him it's Spike—and Ryan says that Spike is his life, and no one can take his place.
Jeff tells Erica that it's clear she invited him to get back at Jack, and the more she does that, the closer he gets to her. When Erica asks who Annie "is", she gets back as good as she gives, when Annie asks her "how many of your husbands are invited?"
The conversation gets nastier when Jack questions Josh about his "attempts to destroy Babe's marriage" and Jeff makes comments about Erica's unhappy marriage.
Sean leaves in a huff, and Erica stomps off to the powder room, followed by Bianca, who confronts her with a question: Why is she so unwilling to come home? Erica agrees to stay for dinner. As she walks into the dining room, she hears Lily say "you're right Dad…you and Erica don't belong together."
"Maybe you're right, Jack," says Erica. "Maybe we should get divorced!"
Jeff reviews the DNA results with Ryan and Annie. No match. But there are still four more test results coming in soon. Annie is very upset and wonders if this means permanent foster care for Emma.
The last four test results arrive: No match. No match. No match. But the fourth test is a match! The social worker brings Emma in and they are reunited for Thanksgiving.
David swears to a disbelieving Kendall that Ryan is Emma's father, and he has the DNA tests to prove it. He claims that Spike will always be second in Ryan priorities after Emma, and is leaving when Zach walks up, and says"Stay away from my wife."David tells them not to worry; he's leaving.
David records another farewell video. He tells Tad not to try and find him.
Back at the Valley Inn, Ryan arrives with Annie and Emma, followed by Erica walking arm-in-arm with Jeff and Josh. A few moments later, Kendall, Zach and Spike arrive to see Ryan jubilantly holding Emma in his arms.
Ryan assures Annie that the DNA test will reveal she's Emma's mother. The social worker arrives with Emma to visit with Annie, but she is sorry—until the DNA results are in, Emma cannot come home—even for Thanksgiving.
Kendall is home alone with Spike when the baby swallows a button! She rushes out to the porch and gets Ryan and Annie to help her. She gets the doctor on the phone, who advises her to keep close watch on Spike for the next 24 hours—and that probably nothing is wrong. It turns out that he didn't swallow anything—the button is under a table. They discover that just as the EMTs arrive.
Kendall asks Annie to leave so that she can speak privately to Ryan. She wants him to attend Thanksgiving dinner with her, Spike and her family—and he immediately agrees.
Annie rushes back in as they're talking and announces that the DNA results are in and that they have to go to the hospital—now! Jeff has the test results—no match.
After they leave, there's a knock at the door and it's David—full of bile. He tries to make Kendall angry by claiming that Ryan is choosing Annie over her and Spike. Then, he spills the news that Ryan is Emma's biological father.
Jamie and Tad are upset to find David's cabin empty—until Jamie finds David's laptop, with a recorded message from the doctor. Blame yourself Tad, and your family, he says. He blames the Martins for the loss of his daughter. "Abandon all hope," he says. "I hope you never find your way out."
Tad tells Jamie that they were entirely set up by David—like a bunch of lab rats. He's overcome with guilt at letting this happen to himself and his family. Not true, says Jamie. Everything he did was out of love—now they have to track down David. Suddenly, Ryan shows up. Tad sends Jamie off to begin the David search, and Ryan tells Tad the news about Emma. Ryan signs on to help them find David.
Annie and Ryan rush off to the hospital to get an emergency DNA test. Annie is close to hysteria. Jeff says he'll do the test and all he can do to help. Jeff draws blood and personally takes the samples to the lab. Julia comes in and admits that she's the one who gave the DNA results to Tad. Annie is speechless.
Julia leaves and walks into an examining room, where she breaks down. Jamie comes in to comfort her—but she rebuffs him. He urges her to let him help her.
Ryan's called Jack to come to the hospital tonight, and asks for his help.
Jack thinks the DNA test shows that Annie isn't Emma's mother. Ryan angrily wants to know why Jack always thinks everything he says is a lie. He urges Jack to file a motion tonight, and Jack agrees.
When Jack returns a few hours later, it's without Emma. She's in a good foster home, and he'll get her out--but not tonight.
Annie and Ryan feel the chemistry but it's too awkward to express.
The doorbell rings and it's a county social worker, who has come to take Emma away, claiming Annie can't prove a biological relationship. An agitated Annie threatens to throw the case worker out, insisting she's Emma's mother. Until Annie can prove the "chimera" she claims, Emma will be put in foster care. Ryan's on the phone, frantically trying to get the information the county requires. Apparently, Annie is considered a flight risk, since she fled New York. The social worker and a policeman take a weeping Emma away from Annie.
