At the Vegas hospital, Alexander's nurse finally gives in and talks to Zach and Ryan. She explains that she and another doctor helped Alexander fake his death. In return she gets a cash-filled envelope every year. The doctor who helped him died a few years ago and she doesn't know what he was paid. The nurse says that Alexander was filled with shame and just wanted to start over. She tries to leave but Ryan and Zach won't let her. Instead, Ryan gives her a card with his attorney's number and they advise her not to go home. Alexander has already killed two of his "helpers" and she could be next! "I promise you'll be safe," Ryan tells her, hoping she will call the lawyer. If she doesn't, he is certain she will be killed. Zach worries about what Alexander will do to Kendall and before Ryan can stop him or follow leaves to talk with some of his former "associates". Back at the warehouse, Zach talks to Alexander. "All right, Father, I'm here," he says as footsteps approach. It's Ryan! Zach tries to get him to leave but he won't. "I can help you," Ryan explains. Alexander likes him, he can make the man release Kendall. Zach doesn't buy it. He doesn't believe Alexander cares a fig about Ryan - and tells him to leave before he messes things up! A car arrives, tosses out a stuffed animal and drives away before Zach and Ryan can reach it. Zach remembers giving the musical bear to Amelia on her birthday. He remembers singing the Red Rock lullaby with her and believes he knows where Alexander has taken Kendall! When Ryan tries to figure out where Zach is going, Zach knocks him out and leaves alone!
Kendall is Kidnapped!
At the Vegas hotel, Ryan and Tad confront the guards who tell them the last time they saw Kendall, she was inside! The guard tells them about the phone call and Kendall wanting to leave but assures Ryan that they didn't let her go. At the balcony, Aidan realizes she may have left that way after the call. The hotel manager arrives and Tad asks if they have surveillance video for the premises. Aidan plays the part of a gangster, telling the manager that if he doesn't help, he would hate to see what Zach will do to him. The manager takes Ryan and Tad to see the video, which shows Kendall leaving and getting into a cab. Ryan calls the company to find out where the cab dropped her off.
At the warehouse, Alexander tells Kendall if she doesn't go along with his plan, he will kill Zach. "It's your choice, Kendall," he says. Alexander cocks the pistol and Kendall agrees to do what he wants. She leans down to tell Zach's unconscious form that she loves him. "Always, only you," she whispers. She kisses him. Zach dreams that he wakes up, alone, in the warehouse with an image of Amelia talking to him. She tells him that he didn't hurt her. "All you ever did was love me," she says. A bright, white light blinds Zach for a moment and Alexander's voice says, "You won't win," as Amelia disappears. Zach dreams that gardenias are falling over his body as Tad, Ryan and the crew arrive. Ryan tells him about the phone call and Zach tries to stand. "He's got her," he exclaims. Searching the warehouse, Aidan finds the Amelia lookalike, dead, behind a box! Zach tells them what he knows, which isn't much and the men turn on him. They wonder how long he has known Alexander was the killer, and ask why he was trying to play hero alone! Aidan finds a note from Alexander, telling them that Kendall chose to save Zach instead of her own life! Tad sends JR and Jamie to the hotel to find out about recent real estate purchases. There, Jamie finds several property purchases, but JR has a better idea. They need to find out about sub-corporations that have made purchases because that is what he and Adam would do if they wanted to keep things quiet! Meanwhile, Zach and Ryan head for the Vegas hospital. They find the nurse who worked on Alexander. "You're going to tell me how he faked his death," Zach says! When the nurse tries to play dumb, Zach tells her that Alexander is on a killing spree and she needs to come clean - now! "If you don't start talking, the next one dead is going to be you," Zach says. Tad and Aidan trace Kendall's cell phone to an alley and find a prostitute using it. She tells them the phone was tossed from a car a few blocks away.
All Roads Lead To Vegas!
In the Vegas warehouse, Zach questions the Amelia lookalike but she doesn't answer him. While he is distracted, Alexander shoots a syringe into his neck and Zach collapses! "Bravo, my dear," Alexander says to the imposter and tells her to take off the mask. The woman is upset when she realizes that Zach was actually hurt. She thought this was only a joke! Unfeeling, Alexander shoots the woman! Across town in the hotel, Kendall is having visions of Zach, hurt and alone. Realizing it is only her imagination running wild, Kendall begins to pace the room. She considers calling Zach but decides against it just in case he is in danger. "Please be all right," she says to the empty room. Crossing the room, she picks up Zach's jacket and sniffs the collar, then curls up on the bed with it. She finds a note inside and begins to read. It's from Zach. He wrote it before he left, just in case he didn't make it back. Crying, Kendall picks up the phone and calls Ryan - like Zach told her to in the letter. She tells him Alexander is alive and Zach is in trouble. Ryan tells her to stay at the hotel and Kendall gives him the address. She doesn't want to stay, but finally agrees not to leave until Ryan and the others can get there. The phone rings. It's Zach! Kendall asks a lot of questions but Zach doesn't really answer - instead he just tells her where he is and tells her he needs her. Zach tells her to come alone and when she suggests waiting for Ryan, Zach repeats his message almost word for word. As Kendall stares at the phone, Alexander talks into a voice-changing machine, pretending to be Zach! Kendall tries to leave the room, but the guards won't let her out. She heads for the balcony and climbs down the trellis. She arrives at the warehouse to see Zach crumpled on the floor. Alexander is there! "Stand up," he says and points a dart gun at Zach - he will kill Zach unless Kendall does as he says!
On a private plane, Tad argues with JR over whether or not he should go to Vegas. Ryan, Jamie and Aidan leave the decision up to Tad when JR insists he can take care of himself. Ryan tells the guys that the button was made on a special order 10 years before. It has to be from Alexander but Ryan is still confused as to why he would be terrorizing Zach. Since he met Alexander in the desert and Zach was questioning him about Vegas, Ryan believes they need to get to Vegas quickly. Jack calls Tad, telling him about the new note from the killer. Concerned, Tad hangs up and tells Ryan and the others about it. Tad believes Zach and Kendall have walked into a trap! As the plane takes flight, JR pulls a picture of Babe from his wallet, remembering the good times with her. As JR remembers Babe, Jamie watches Tad, vowing to make things right for his father. The killer took his mother and Jamie is going to enjoy taking his life in return! Ryan calls Annie to check on her and she assures him everything is fine there. He hangs up, wondering why Alexander killed his sister and vowing to keep Alexander away from Kendall. Across the plane, Aidan vows the same thing. Tad can't get Dixie off his mind. "He'll pay for taking your life, Dixie," he tells her. Derek calls Tad and tells him about the button. Tad tries to play dumb but Derek doesn't buy it. He tells Tad about the DNA match. "Start talking," Derek says. Tad pretends the phone is losing service and hangs up. He tells the others they don't have much time - the police are right behind them! They arrive in Vegas and head to the hotel but the guards won't let them into Kendall and Zach's room. Ryan and Tad pretend to leave and then bust into the room - but Kendall is gone!
Setting A Trap
At the penthouse, Bianca shows Ryan the button she found at the cemetery. "What does this mean to you?" she asks. Ryan puts the button in tissue to examine it as Bianca tells him where she found it and why. Ryan sits down, uneasy because he recognizes the emblem as the Cambias crest. More worried than ever, Bianca wonders if there could be an unknown Cambias running around killing people. Ryan assures Bianca there are no living Cambias family members other than Zach and Miranda. Believing they should take the button to Tad or the police, Ryan is taken aback when Bianca tells him the police aren't doing enough. She wants Ryan to investigate the button on his own! Ryan picks up the button, agreeing to her plan.
At the hospital, Erica confronts JR about Josh's whereabouts. JR tells Erica he is at the casino, but she is too angry to leave immediately. Instead, Erica picks a fight, telling JR he has no right to talk about Josh or to make threats against him, especially after all of the bad things JR has done to people. JR comes back, telling Erica she has no right to call Babe a tramp and telling her she should look at her own track record! Erica slaps him saying, "Babe always cared more for Josh and than you." She walks away.
Arriving at the casino, Erica is annoyed when the bodyguards won't let her in to see Kendall and Zach. Erica calls Kendall, who isn't home. Ryan arrives, wondering what is going on. He fights off the guard and bursts into the apartment! The room is empty and Erica freaks out. "Where are my children?" The guards try to make Ryan and Erica leave but Erica won't listen. Ryan disappears for a second and comes back, telling Erica that Kendall is taking a bubble bath and didn't hear them. Leading Erica from the room, he whispers that Zach did it. He managed to get Kendall away without anyone being the wiser! "This is what we wanted," he says, asking Erica to keep things quiet. In order to keep Kendall safe, everyone has to believe she is inside the apartment still. Ryan leaves and Erica immediately tries to call Kendall again.
At his office, Tad calls the postal service to try to find Hannah Nichols but doesn't have any luck. Aidan comes in, angry that Tad isn't more serious about a phone call he wanted investigated. He believes they are wasting too much time on Hannah. They argue and Jamie separates them! Tad erupts in anger, because things are moving too slowly. Aidan, angry that Tad confronted him, tells him to back off. JR comes in, listening to the argument. Tad breaks down, believing he let Dixie down by letting her die. "You never let her down," JR says from the door. The room gets quiet and Aidan breaks the silence, telling them it is time to get to work. JR wants to help and Tad isn't thrilled with the idea. He believes JR is still too weak. JR disagrees; even though he just got rid of the cane, he can make calls and do some of the phone work. Seeing he won't give up, Tad gives in. "Don't just sit there, get on it," Tad says. JR believes some of his friends from AA may be able to help them track down any V-Tach that may still be out there. Ryan arrives and shows them the button. "Gentlemen, we know who the killer is," he says.
On The Trail Of The Killer
At the penthouse, Zach asks Ryan what he remembers of Alexander Sr. Reluctant to say anything because he is still convinced Zach holds the key to the killings, Ryan doesn't answer at first. After some coaxing, Ryan says Alexander, Sr., didn't even seem sick until he began writing the check. He was upset about Zach's death and Michael's rape of Bianca. Zach doesn't think Ryan is remembering things correctly - Alexander didn't care about either of his sons. He believes his father was only upset that both had apparently blackened the family name. Ryan tells Zach that Michael smiled at Zach's coffin at the funeral - that is why Alexander Sr. hated him! Zach doesn't buy it and asks again what they spoke about before Alexander Sr. died. Ryan tells him that Alexander Sr. gave him the pocket watch and turned over control of Cambias Industries, that's it. "Don't you find that funny?" Zach asks, that a man on his death bed doesn't ask about his wife or his family? Who else was at the hospital, he asks. Ryan remembers the nurses name and Zach pounces on the information. It's a good place to start! Spike begins to cry and Zach goes to take care of him. Talking to the little boy, Zach makes a decision: Spike will never wonder if he is loved or cared for the way Zach and Michael wondered. Ryan comes in with a bottle and tells Zach about his "talks" with the killer and tells Zach he will follow any instructions the killer passes along if it will save Kendall's life! "Do what you have to do," Zach says and leaves the penthouse. Alone, Ryan plays with Spike as a message from the killer comes in on the fax. "Nice try. Too Late," it reads.
Angry and Confused
Upstairs at Wildwind, Emma takes Ryan on a tour of her new home and then, eager to rejoin Kathy downstairs, leaves he and Annie alone. Ryan fills Annie in on the funeral and holds her close. Jonathan walks in, and tries to leave without interrupting them. Too late! Ryan sees him before he can leave. Annie makes a quick exit so the brothers can talk. Jonathan tries to convince Ryan to take a chance with Annie, but Ryan doesn't want to move too fast. Jonathan leaves him alone and Ryan gazes at a picture of he, Annie and the kids. He quickly leaves Wildwind. A few minutes later, Annie finds Jonathan and leads him into her room. She's a little angry with him, believing he betrayed her trust by talking with Ryan. "I'm out of it. I'm backing off," Jonathan tells her, still convinced that he did the right thing. Jonathan believes she and Ryan are perfect for one another! Leaving Annie to think about that, Jonathan leaves the room.
