At the Martin household, Tad, Krystal, and Opal are giving the girls their cereal when Damon comes in and high-fives the kids. Opal asks him if he's ready for his community service. He says he is - he's headed for the hospital. Tad suddenly leaps up and warns Damon about his attitude! Damon assures him he won't disappoint him and leaves. Krystal asks Tad what got into him? She gets in his face, and he admits to her that Damon may be his son! Krystal wonders how that could be? Tad tells her he saw Hillary right before she got married again. Krystal asks what he's going to do. He says Angie rushed a DNA test for him - that's why he's on edge. Krystal is stunned when Tad admits that he hasn't told Liza yet. Just then she comes in! Liza wonders why she received no phone call about the good job she did for Damon in court. Tad stands up and apologizes. Liza asks him to join her for lunch later, but he declines. When Tad leaves the room, Liza asks Krystal to tell her what's going on. Krystal pretends not to know what she means and goes to see to the girls. Opal comes in and Liza asks if Krystal is seeing anyone. Opal says this is about Tad, and warns her to get a grip on her green-eyed monster before it ruins her chances with Tad! Liza leaves and Opal goes to warn Krystal, telling her to watch out for Liza Colby - she wants what she's got! Krystal laughs, but Opal says she's serious - and asks Krystal if she's sure she and Tad are just friends!
Tad arrives at the hospital where he seeks out Damon and apologizes for being so tough on him earlier. They get to talking, and Damon says he can't believe Tad knew his mom - she never said anything about him or Pine Valley. Tad recalls how wonderful Hillary was. Damon thinks he's let his mom down. Tad muses that no one was a bigger screw-up than him. They discuss Tad's background and Tad tells him about Joe being the man he considers his father - the other one beat him up for sport. Damon goes back to his mopping as Tad says he'll see him at home. Tad turns back to watch him. As Tad goes to get the DNA results, Angie notices Damon pocket a bottle of pills out of the trash. Damon claims he was going to turn them in, but Angie asks for the truth!
Tad and Opal discuss Damon at the police station. Opal isn't sure he will keep his nose clean. Tad says he doesn't mind taking that chance. Jesse ambles over and Opal walks away. Jesse grins and asks Tad why he didn't tell her that the kid could be his son?! Damon appears, and tells Tad that he's not surprised his dad wouldn't step up for him, but he's puzzled as to why his mother hasn't come. Jesse and Tad exchange a glance. Tad tells him she may be staying away because of him. Damon asks him why he didn't tell him sooner that they'd been involved. Tad says he only realized that it was that Hillary recently. He explains that he hurt her, and doesn't blame her for not wanting to come to town and run into him! Damon gets a call to bring papers to the hospital to start his community service. He leaves, and Jesse tells Tad that Angela can hook them up with a DNA test! He picks up the coffee cup Damon was drinking from and tells Tad it's his call!
At the police station, Liza informs Tad that Damon's mother is Hillary Wilson - his former love! She says she doesn't think Damon has a clue that his mother ever set foot in Pine Valley before. As Tad looks over at him, Damon tells Colby that Tad thinks he's playing everybody just to get off! As Liza takes Damon and Colby in to see the judge, Tad remains in shock. Opal appears, and he fills her in on the latest. Opal remembers how in love Tad was with Hillary - then asks about Damon's father. Tad tells her Hillary apparently remarried. Damon and Colby reappear, saying things went well with the judge. They talk about his situation, and Damon remarks that his father has totally given up on him, and his mother is just disappointed in him. Tad asks Opal if she has any vibes about how things are going with Liza, the D.A., and the judge. Opal shakes her head. Liza emerges and announces that Damon got community service, no jail time, but he has to have a guardian. Damon sighs, and Tad blurts, "I'll do it!" Liza thinks that's big of Tad, and asks if Opal agrees to it - she does. Damon is okay with it too. Jesse and Tad step aside and Tad tells him why he's stepping up for Damon. They discuss how Hillary came to him before her marriage to see if there was a spark between them. Jesse asks, "How long ago was that?"
Dozing in the hospital chapel, Tad feels a hand on his head - it's Dixie. He tells her he knows she's been with them for a few days, and talks about how worried he was that he would lose JR. Dixie says JR had more life to experience in him. They talk about what a good man he has turned out to be - Dixie is so proud of him. She asks Tad to continue to be the father JR craves. Tad swears he will be there for him. Tad tells Dixie he misses her every single day. She says she misses him too, and tells him how much she loves watching him with Kathy. Dixie has to go. Tad asks her to stay longer. She says she'll see him again, then fades away.
Tad comes up the hall to JR's room. He tells Brooke about his dream of Dixie. Annie appears, with Angie behind her. Annie says she decided to come back from the spa and see how JR is doing. Colby comes out from JR's room and gets snippy about Annie being there. Adam suggests that Annie go home. She blurts, "I can't believe you're trying to get rid of me after what I did for JR!" Colby asks just what she did for JR. Krystal says she'd like to know as well. Annie stutters that she's been there for him as much as anyone in the family. Colby stalks off after saying she should just stay away from her brother. Adam whispers to Annie that he'll never forget what she did for JR.
Tad and Colby meet Damon at the police station. Colby thanks Damon for being there for her, and he returns the sentiment. Tad pulls him aside and says that he needs to cut the act, or at least dial it back. Tad says if he can see through him, so will the judge - his only hope is to be genuinely sorry for what he did! Damon insists that he meant it when he thanked Colby! Liza comes in and corrals Tad - she tells him that Damon's mom bailed on him, and she found out that his mother is none other than Hillary Miller - whose maiden name is Wilson - she is Tad's former love! Tad turns and gapes at Damon, stunned!
Adam shouts as JR struggles in the hospital bed. In his mind, JR tells Dixie that he wants to stay with her. She says she may not be able to make him go back, but somebody else can! The doctor says they're losing him, and close the blinds so the family cannot see in. Adam glances up the hall and spots Annie lurking. Brooke follows his eye, and offers to go see to her. Angie comes to tell the family that JR may not be strong enough to make it through this - if there is anything they want to say to JR, now is the time. Marissa cries, and Adam lashes at Angie, who tells him to focus on JR.
In the chapel, Tad tells Jesse that lately he's been feeling Dixie - he even thought he heard her singing! Jesse says it makes sense that she'd be on his mind now. Tad feels it's more than that. Angie comes in and advises Tad that he needs to spend time with JR.
Tad is about to go into JR's hospital room, but Adam stops him, asking him not to go in there and say goodbye, but to tell JR to fight - he'll listen to him! Marissa kneels down in front of AJ and tells him daddy is really sick. The boy asks if he is going to die. Marissa admits that they don't know.
