A Broken Home

At the Chandler mansion, Tad tries to convince Adam that the baby isn't his, but when Adam tells him about the blackmail against Babe, Tad begins to see the truth. He turns to Krystal who confirms that Charlotte is his. "Moonshine and pity is why I let you stay around so long," Adam tells Krystal as he leaves the room. JR follows and Krystal asks Babe to leave also so she can speak with Tad. Tad can't believe that Krystal lied to him about the baby. "You chose to lie to Adam and then you chose to lie to me," he says! Krystal explains that she was trying to protect Adam, but Tad doesn't believe her. Adam is the last person to need protection, Tad believes, telling her that she is no different and no better than Greg Madden - the man who took his other child! Finally growing angry, Krystal declares that her motives were pure. She chose Adam because she loves him. "My baby is Charlotte Carey Chandler and she is his daughter in every way that counts!" she exclaims and leaves the room. Upstairs, Adam's pain can be seen, but he quickly covers pain with anger in front of his son. "If your wife was pregnant, carrying her lover's child, would you take her back?" Adam asks. JR continues to try to make Adam see reason, but Adam ignores his son and begins to pack up Krystal's things. "You're no longer a Chandler and you're no longer my son!" he says, leaving the room with a drawer full of Krystal's things. Downstairs, JR asks Tad to try to understand what he did but Tad can't. When JR says Dixie would have understood, Tad erupts in anger. Dixie wouldn't have understood, he tells JR, she would have been disgusted! "It's like she died for nothing," he says and leaves. When Tad reaches the front door, he meets Josh. Without stopping, Josh heads off to find Babe.

In the study, Babe sees Colby and is surprised that Colby is as upset as she is. Colby asks what they are now - friends or family or nothing? She wants to know how she is supposed to feel about Babe and Krystal now. Krystal walks in, telling Colby that she loves her and that she does love Adam, but Colby isn't ready to listen to her step-mother. She leaves the room. Outside, Colby sees Adam setting fire to Krystal's things and tosses some of Charlotte's things into the fire as well. "My Charlotte. My Lottie," he cries, and begins to scream from the pain in his heart. The emotion freaks Colby out and she calls Stuart, asking for help. Alone with her father, she tries to calm Adam. He is in a rage, though, and knocks her away from him. Falling down and crying, Colby begs him to calm down. Stuart arrives and pulls Adam to him. Stuart is stunned when Adam tells him that Charlotte isn't his child - she is Tad's! Inside, Krystal hears the commotion and looks out the window. She sees Adam burning Charlotte's things and begins to have pains in her belly! Babe calls for help as Josh comes in the room. He advises them both to leave. Breathing into a paper bag, Krystal tells them it's only a panic attack and refuses to leave for the hospital. Babe pulls Josh outside, angry that he pushed Krystal into telling the truth and that he tried to cover with her by telling her that things were fine. "Thank you for saving my life," she says, "now stay out of it!"

Josh leaves and runs in to JR, who is ticking like a time bomb. It's obvious he wants to hit someone, but doesn't give in to the urge. Instead, he attacks Josh with words. "You set a bomb off in this house," he says, unbelievingly. He can't believe that Josh had the nerve to come to the mansion after setting the events in motion! Josh still believes he has done the right thing, though. He leaves without another word. Adam comes inside and pours a drink. He offers one to JR, too! JR sees through the offer, and tries to get through to Adam by telling him they can get through this together - like families do every day. Adam still isn't ready to listen, though, and JR leaves. Tad comes back in and the two nearly bond over their anger at Krystal. But seeing Adam is in a rage and could take it out on Krystal and the baby, Tad tries reason with him. It would be wrong, he says, to make Charlotte pay for Krystal's mistakes. Krystal and Babe hear their raised voices and come back in the parlor. Adam tells Tad to take her away. "Nobody is taking me anywhere," she says, refusing to leave her home. She wants to fight for their love and she wants Adam to fight, too! Colby and JR come back in and Colby speaks up, telling them they need to fix the problem. JR reaches out to her but she leaves and so does Tad. Babe tries to step in but Krystal asks her to back away. She wants to fix this mess herself. Adam makes an angry move toward Krystal and JR steps between them. "You touch her and I'll drop you," he says. Adam leaves, telling JR that the "lying, cheating" Carey women are all he has left! JR takes Krystal and Babe upstairs, telling them that he will protect them. He leaves them alone and Babe tries to comfort her mother. Outside, Tad struggles to make sense of the news.

On the terrace, Adam stands over the burned remains of Charlotte's things and tosses his wedding ring inside, vowing to make everyone pay for what they have done!

The Truth Hurts!

Inside the Chandler mansion, Adam is obviously heartbroken when Krystal admits fully that Tad is the father. She tries to convince him that she loves him and Charlotte's paternity shouldn't matter but Adam isn't interested in her explanations. "You weren't going to tell me - ever?!" he asks and is stunned when Krystal admits that she planned to keep the secret forever. Adam pours a drink and shades of the old Adam come out. She explains that, "I saw the light in your eye and I wanted to keep it there." But Adam isn't interested in her explanations; all he can think about is that she slept with Tad and then pulled on over on him. He feels betrayed because he believed her when she told him she spent the night with Tad talking. Babe and JR arrive and they know immediately that Krystal has told her secret. Adam turns his anger on JR, who defends his actions by saying he was only trying to ensure that Adam was happy. JR tries to take the drink from Adam but he won't give up the alcohol, and JR becomes just as angry as Adam. He tells his father not to make the same mistakes he did. "This secret can stay in the family," JR says, promises to never tell Tad anything about Charlotte! Babe pleads with Adam to forgive her mother and tries to assure him that Krystal is devoted to him - not Tad! Weak, Babe holds on to JR, asking Adam again to take a little time before he makes a decision about Krystal and their marriage. "Please," she says as Adam walks away. Krystal begins to follow him but stops at the door. JR and Babe stay with her in the parlor, trying to comfort her. Tad arrives, wondering what is going on. Adam comes in. "Take your woman and the spawn you put in her and get out of my house," he exclaims!

Adam Learns The Truth

At the Chandler mansion, Krystal waffles on her decision to tell Adam her secret. Before she can say anything, JR comes in, telling her to keep quiet! Krystal asks him to leave and let her come clean. Instead, he tells Krystal to trust him with her secret but Krystal doesn't want this secret to be between she and Adam any longer. Hearing their raised voices, Colby comes in, asking what the fuss is about. Krystal asks Adam to take Colby away so she can speak privately with JR. Once alone, JR tells her not to listen to anything Josh may have said. He believes that Josh is trying to break apart their family by preying on Krystal's fears! "I would never use Charlotte to force Babe into anything," he says, reminding Krystal that Babe wants her to keep quiet. When that doesn't work, JR asks about Adam and how the news could hurt him. "I have to stop lying to him," Krystal says. JR believes telling Adam will turn him into the old, vengeful Adam Chandler. "Think of me at my worst multiplied by hundreds," he tells her, asking her to think of Charlotte's well-being. He suggests making up a story about her past so that Adam won't suspect anything. Outside, Adam can't stand being left out of the loop. Remembering that Colby something, he demands that she tell him what she knows. Colby says tells him the secret involves Tad! Adam heads back inside, telling Colby and JR to leave. On the terrace, JR makes Colby tell him what she old Adam and then takes off. Back inside, Adam begs Krystal to just come clean, that he knows Tad is involved and wants to know what is going on! In tears, Krystal tells Adam how messed up Tad was after Greg Madden's death and how she visited him. "I went to bed with with him," she says! Immediately, Adam knows the truth - that Charlotte is Tad's baby!

Not So Fast, Dad!

At the Pine Valley Mall, Adam breaks the news about Babe to an excited Colby. She can't believe what she is hearing and can't wait to see Babe. Adam asks her to stay with him and shop for Charlotte and Krystal. The two buy out several stores and Colby comes up with a plan to help Babe and JR get back together. Adam tells her not to push, and Colby reluctantly agrees. She would rather help her family, though.

Meanwhile inside the Chandler manse, Josh tells Krystal about JR's "act" and tells her it is time to take action. He blames Krystal for Babe's apparent change of heart toward JR and warns her that if anything happens to Babe it will be her fault! Krystal can't believe that Josh is trying to blame her because Babe was obviously being pressured - by him! - to leave town when she didn't really want to go anywhere. "Did I try to blackmail her?" he asks, not believing that he did anything wrong. He goes on to tell Krystal that she is Babe's biggest threat! Josh won't let things drop, and the more he talks the more Krystal wonders if she has made a mistake in keeping Charlotte's paternity a secret. If she could just come clean, she believes she could solve Babe's problems! JR arrives, and assures Krystal that Adam and Tad will never learn her secret. Not from him, and not from Josh, he says! Josh leaves. Alone, JR tells Krystal about seeing Babe and the fact that she still wants a divorce. He says that he understands why she can't trust him or forgive him - yet! What if, Krystal wonders, he can't ever win her back? JR can't think about that; instead he tells her that he will do anything to get Babe back! Colby and Adam return with their bags of goodies and Adam senses something is wrong with Krystal. He sends Colby upstairs so they can be alone. Krystal struggles for a moment and nearly tells him the truth about Charlotte. Instead, she tells him about JR's fight to win Babe back. She believes she has given him the power to get her back, whether that is what Babe wants or not! Crying, Krystal wonders how she can tell him the truth. "I love you," she says. Her not telling him is driving Adam crazy and Krystal tells him part of the truth - that the secret isn't Babe's, it is hers!

A Proposal, An Answer And A Response

At the Chandler mansion, JR reacts badly to Erica. He and Tad both believe that she is trying something manipulative. Erica tells Tad that Jeff was in on faking Babe's death, but neither man believes her. Angry, Tad asks why Erica is doing this. Trying to make them believe, Erica goes off to find Krystal! JR stops her; he doesn't want Erica upsetting his step-mother. Erica explains that Krystal just found out, too, and JR realizes that she has been acting differently. And Little Adam told him the night before that he saw Babe! He believes Erica may be telling the truth. Erica tries to explain how Jeff, Joe and Josh faked Babe's death. "Why couldn't I know?" JR asks, broken up. She explains that his and Krystal's grief is what kept the Satin Slayer away. Finally believing her, JR demands to know where Babe is. Before she will tell him, Erica begs JR not to blame Josh. When he agrees, Erica tells him about the casino sub-basement. Alone with Erica, Tad demands to know why she dropped this bombshell on them now. "What are Josh and Babe up to?" Tad asks. Rather than answer, Erica leaves the mansion. Outside the parlor, Tad sees Krystal and confronts her. Krystal asks how he found out and he explains that Erica just dropped the bomb on he and JR. Krystal is worried about Babe and tries to leave but Tad stops her. Adam comes in as Tad asks when Krystal was going to let the rest of the world know Babe was still alive! Both men demand to know how long she has known the truth and both are shocked that she has known for days. "I couldn't tell you, Adam," she says and tries to explain that she didn't know they were planning to fake Babe's death in the beginning. Tad leaves. Adam can't believe that she didn't trust him with the good news! Krystal tries to make him understand that with the mansion being bugged and with JR's actions just before Babe "died", she couldn't tell him the truth. Finally realizing she was torn about what to do, Adam forgives her.

To The Future!

At the Chandler mansion, JR becomes angry when he overhears Krystal telling little A that they are going to see Babe. He hugs the boy and sends him off to the kitchen. Krystal tries to cover what she said by telling JR that she was taking little A to Babe's grave. JR can't believe what he is hearing. There is no way, JR exclaims, that little A should go to a grave site when he hasn't even been told about his mother's death! Adam enters, and JR tells him about Krystal's plans. Before Adam can react, she apologizes. She tells them both that she just wanted to help the boy. When JR agrees to tell little A about Babe's death right then, Krystal becomes a little frantic. She doesn't want either man to tell the boy anything! Her change of heart confuses JR, and Adam suggests it's just the pregnancy. He believes that the stress over Babe's death and her own preganancy are causing Krystal to not make sense. Flustered, Krystal agrees that she hasn't been making much sense lately. Winifred brings little A back with cookies. JR gathers him close, and tries to tell him that Babe is dead but he can't go through with it. JR breaks down and Krystal leads little A away.
