The heart behind the darkness

Jamie drops in on his dad. Tad tells him it's over. Dixie is free. Jamie is worried about Tad. Tad says they will just have to live with it. He asks Jamie if he can handle that. Jamie says he can. He will be there for him. "Now what," he asks. It is obvious Tad and Jamie share the secret.

Tad and Dixie talk about the murder.

At conFusion, Di's angry at Aidan for not being in Pine Valley to help Dixie, and tells him to "go to hell." She then thanks Jamie, who angrily tells her to "drop it."

Josh walks in and confronts Jamie. He taunts him about "Martin v. Martin" in court. He angrily tries to get Jamie to reveal the real killer. Jamie tells him he'll never figure out who buried Greg.

Aidan returns to the club and tells Di how much he's missed her. They walk out together.

The verdict is in!

In court, a note from Tad is read, in which he promises to "make Dixie pay." Livia accuses him of being motivated by jealousy and bitterness. Tad denies it and still says the security film is a fake, and accuses Zach of paying off Daniel Kagan. He leaves the courtroom, and is confronted by JR—who tells him to get out of their lives. Jamie says "What's the problem? You found out Tad is just like you?"


The prosecution rests. The defense calls Jimmy Valens, employee of the motel where Dixie and Zach stayed. The attorneys make their final statements, and the jury leaves to deliberate.

Dr Joe tells an upset Josh that they're all here for him.

Babe, JR and Dixie return to the Candler manse. JR promises Dixie that if she's found guilty, they'll appeal.

In the courtroom, Dixie and Kendall voiceovers are heard—both wondering if they have any future with Zach. Ryan's voiceover expresses his desire for Kendall to be safe and to form a family with Kendall and Spike. Zach wonders if he has any future with Kendall. "Do we have a chance?" wonder all of them.

In the waiting area, Jamie and Tad embrace. Dixie goes to visit Zach in the holding cell; Kendall enters and sees them. She returns home, upset, and is comforted by Ryan.


The verdict is in: Not guilty on all counts! Tad congratulates Dixie and wishes her a happy life with Zach. An anguished Josh asks Erica and Jeff "who do you think killed him?"

Everyone's at the courthouse as the trial begins.

Erica and Jeff sit down next to Josh in the courtroom, saying they want to show their support for him. Dr Joe enters at that moment, and sits down in the back of the courtroom.

In the prosecutor's opening remarks, he claims to have ironclad evidence that Zach and Dixie committed murder.

Livia says that while Zach and Dixie had a motive, but didn't commit the murder, the prosecution evidence is circumstantial, and Tad is motivated by revenge and hate.

She cross-examines Derek; hereacts angrily when Livia accuses the police of questionable activities,

Josh has images of Julia attacking and injecting Madden; Di and Del planning to bury him; David digging the grave [but promising to release him if he tells the truth about Kate's whereabouts]; JR helping David; Dixie is observing.

Tad is called to the stand, and admits that the police bugged his house. He admits that Dixie eventually admitted to him that she and Zach were lovers. He says he saw Dixie and Zach in the airport parking lot the night Madden disappeared, and were putting a body in Dixie's car.

Livia asks Tad if it's true that he's there because Chief Frye told him if he didn't testify, he'd go after JR and Jamie for stealing evidence. Tad admits it's true.

He also admits that David helped Dixie get away from him when she was pregnant, and he believed her to be dead. Livia questions his feelings about Dixie not asking for his help in finding their daughter.

The prosecutor asks Tad about his "anger" regarding Dixie's actions, and whether that's affected his testimony. Is it the truth? Tad says it's all the truth—and Jamie and Di burst in, Jamie yelling "Liar! Everything he's said is a lie, and I can prove it."

Pine Valley mourns Colby Chandler.

Ryan and Kendall are discussing their relationship when Jamie arrives and says he believes Tad is behind the rumors trashing Dixie. Kendall asks if he thinks that Tad's lying and he looks stricken. He says he can't say anything against his father, and Kendall reminds him that it's her husband and future they're also talking about. Does he have proof? He says he doesn't—just the expression "in Dixie's eyes."

An angry Kendall tells Jamie that Dixie's expression means nothing to her. Jamie asks if they "know something"; they say they don't. He rushes out.

Kendall tells Ryan she had "one moment of hope" for her marriage—then says she shouldn't be discussing this with Ryan. He says she can talk to him. The doorbell rings and Annie arrives with papers for Ryan to sign. Kendall asks if it's true she's staying in Pine Valley. Annie says it's because Ryan convinced her. It didn't take her "very long to get her claws into Ryan" says a sarcastic Kendall.

Josh bares his soul to Babe.

Di and Jamie discuss the upcoming trial. She tells him Dixie's not as bad as he thinks. Julie interrupts—Jamie tells her to butt out since they're over. Jamie says he believes Tad is lying, and will do what he can to exonerate Dixie.

Babe and Josh Make Love!

At ConFusion, Dixie and Josh are talking. She insists they did not bury Greg Madden. Tad appears behind her. Jamie and Tad bicker and Jamie stalks off. He's about to take a pull off a beer bottle when JR grabs it out of his hand.

He accuses Jamie of being a hypocrite. Dixie tells Tad he's a liar, and JR walks over to comfort Dixie. She tells him to go home to his wife and baby. When he mentions she's working upstairs, Dixie tells him to go get Babe.

Tad tells Jamie that Dixie is "desperate" and a bad person. Jamie says she's like a mother to him.

Annie comes in and thanks Jonathan for saving her daughter. She says she knows the kind of man he is, and doesn't care what anyone says. She's worried about him; he says he's OK and to leave it alone. They discuss Lily and she assures him that he gave Lily back her life—despite his feeling that he cannot help her.

Erin is discussing how she can help both herself and her brothers overcome a history of abuse.

Babe and Josh finally kiss.

At the club, Kendall, Ryan and Jonathan celebrate. Kendall shows Amanda Spike's latest pictures rather than talk with Ryan. Jonathan is flirting with the gals in the club. They ask if he's married, and he assures them he's "available." Del offers to set him up. Amanda tells him he's thoughtless and insensitive. She says Jon heart is broken. He accuses her of being sweet on Jonathan.

Jonathan tells Ryan and Amanda it's over between him and Lily. Ryan says he knows what she means to him and is skeptical that Jonathan really believes it's over.

Jamie suggests to Julia that they go to his house to make their reunion "official". Julia declines, and tells him there isn't going to be any reunion. It's been exciting and fun, she says, but it's over and time to move on. They kiss and he leaves. Later in the evening, they both admit to others that they're in love.

Kendall continues to tease Ryan and do a bunch of bar games. She gets more inebriated and confronts JR. He accuses her of having an affair with Ryan.

Then, JR arrives and confronts Amanda and Jamie and yells at them for screwing up and helping to cause Dixie's problems.

Kendall tells Ryan that she's made stupid choices and that Zach cares more about Dixie than he does about her and Spike. Ryan tells her if Zach can't appreciate her, then he's the one who's stupid. "I'm not going to let you blame yourself…you don't deserve what he did to you."

"I want to love you," Kendall confesses to Ryan.

JR looks at the booze at the club; Jamie tell him that if he even thinks about drinking again. He'll break both his hands.
