I'm not sure this was a Catholic baptism. The priest was dressed more like and Episcopal priest. In any case, I don't think it matters.

When I wanted to get my daughter baptized, my husband and I were not married at the time and we had to meet with the priest on three different occasions before they would agree to baptize her. Amanda is married to one man while she is living with anther so I don't know how the church would feel about that one!

:) Of course, the baby shouldn't be punished because of the sins of the parents!

I do not think it was a Catholic baptism. Not all people are catholic. I could be wrong, but It seems to be an automatic assumption of tv watchers that all churchgoers
and church scenes are catholic. There are a host of others, I would think everyone would know that. maybe it just looks that way to me.... Please , no offense to Catholics or anyone else.

Well, Catholic is the most "popular" religion showcased on tv. That's why I assumed this was Catholic. Mickey is the only one who seems to "get" my point. Amanda not only had a baby out of wedlock; but she's married to another man while living with Mr. Baby Daddy David. How would ANY church view that? That's my question here. Answer only if you know for sure. And this was a CHRISTENING...not a baptism. There is a slight difference. At a Christening, you are named. EXAMPLE: St. John, St. Matthew, etc.

Speaking of which...St. Matthew is the name of the church in this show. Is this a Catholic name? I wasn't raised Catholic, and none of the churches I attended as a kid had ST. anything in front of the name. Don't know if this makes a difference. Just putting it out there.

In the old narrow-minded days, suchas the 1950's the Catholic church wouldn't baptize babies if the parents weren't married. But the church somewhere along the way realized that they were judging innocent babies who had nothing to do with however they came into the world. Alot of things were narrow minded back then. So all religions teach "thou shalt not judge lest ye be judged" well, there you have it. I'm glad things changed with the times, that and alot of other hateful outdated ideas.
