This storyline is EXTREMELY unrealistic. I think the writers have been using "Soap Opera Plotting Manual" from 30 years ago to write it!

1) No doctor can tell the date of conception from an ultrasound. Frankie said, "It looks like the fetus is X weeks old. Meaning that it was conceived in November." And immediately, Amanda - and all the nitwit doctors on this show - jumped to the conclusion that David is the Daddy.

2) No man has parental rights to a child unless paternity is established. And the only way to do this is a paternity test. This can be done on a fetus - amniocentesis - but that procedure probably isn't listed in a 30 year old manual.

In most states - without a paternity test saying otherwise - a woman's husband is considered the legal father of her child.

I kept waiting for the AMC writers to pull some of this out - after all AMC has a reputation for educating and informing its viewers. But, they never did and it makes me want to scream: "Who writes this crap????"

And last: Amanda just gave birth - in mid-June - to a healthy, full term baby - meaning it was conceived in SEPTEMBER and not NOVEMBER. Bye bye "Daddy" David. But to assume that a smart, hip woman like Amanda went for months without knowing she was pregnant is another gaggy plot device - but not 30 years old, more like 50 years old.

The writers on this show are so insulting to women that I can't stand it. They've taken all the smart, competent women and turned them into whinny idiots who need big, strong men to "save" them. What a better and more interesting storyline it would have been if instead of turning Amanda into a helpless victim of David, she'd have gone to JR and said, "Hey, want to help me take David for $6 million?" After all she was savvy enough to cut herself in on JR's fake kidnapping scheme. The 2 of them could have faked the "falling off the wagon" garbage and laughed all the way to the bank. THAT'S the Amanda that I always enjoyed watching.

I keep hearing that AMC is in danger of being cancelled. Maybe it should be if the writers can't write for women in this century!

This "birthing" story line has got to be the dumbest thing I have ever seen.
It is an insult to the intelligence of the viewers.
What about the umbilical cord, suctioning the fluids from nose and mouth, etc. ?There are several things that are done in a medical setting to a newborn to insure its health and survival.
Here they are in a BASEMENT - not a clean bed upstairs - giving birth to a baby that will look like it is a month old. The writers forgot that Colby helped Krystal bring Jenny into the world. Colby would recognize a newborn's looks.

What a shame, I have watched AMC a long time, and now it is not worth watching. Too stupid.

It was never a question of whether or not it was Jake's or Davids baby. It was whether or not it was JR or Davids baby.

Quote NatesMommie: Does anyone else think maybe just maybe this is Jakes baby since it wasnt that long before she slept with David she was with Jake hmmmm?

Amanda slept with Jake after she found out she was pregnant. The baby's paternity was always whether or not it was JR's OR Davids.
