All My Children 36th Annual Daytime Emmy Nominees Announced!

Thursday, May 14 2009

Thorsten Kaye nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor (Soaps.com)
After a couple of years of less-than-great Emmy nominations, it seems that The Powers The Be are finally remembering All My Children because the show has garnered seven nominations so far – and the nominating isn't quite over yet!

AMC has been nominated for Outstanding Drama Series. The show also received nominations for Outstanding Drama Series Directing Team and Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team.

Since Charles Pratt, JR took over the writing reins in 2008, there has been a return to the 'old style' of Pine Valley storytelling. Most of the storylines are focused on the core families – the Chandler's, Kane's and Cortlandt's – rather than newer additions. Fans across the world tuned in for the fairwell episode for Myrtle (Eileen Hurlie), after the actress passed away in October.

In the Outstanding Lead Actor category, Thorsten Kaye (Zach Slater) was nominated. 2008 was a crazy year for Zach. After learning that Kendall slept with Aidan, he sent Aidan to Africa, hoping he would die. Instead, Aidan returned with Jake Martin. Bianca made a surprise return, pregnant with Zach's child, and a close friendship began with Binks' partner Reese. After the tornados hit Pine Valley, Kendall lapsed into a coma and Zach spent every possible moment by her side, willing her to wake up.

Debbi Morgan (Dr. Angie Hubbard) has been nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress category.

Debbi Morgan nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress (Soaps.com)
Although only sporadically on the front burner, Angie's storyline has been one of the strongest in Pine Valley. She focuses her energies on her work, her family and her friends. Is always around to offer advice - or go a few rounds with David! She tried to run David out of town because of the drugs Krystal was hooked on, but when that didn't work, Angie and Jesse took a step back and decided to let David hang himself!

In the Outstanding Supporting Actor category, there are two nominees from Pine Valley – Vincent Irizarry (David Hayward) and Jacob Young (JR Chandler). Jacob's finest moments came during the tornado scenes. As JR realized that Babe was dying, he focused all of his energies on making her comfortable, and promising to make things right for Little A. In her final moments, JR vowed his unending love to Babe. David, on the other hand, has vowed his unending hatred for Pine Valley since his return. He blamed JR and Adam for Babe's death, manipulated both Krystal and Amanda into bed and then got Krystal hooked on pills so she would do his bidding – like spying on the Chandler's and helping him get custody of Little A!

Both Alicia Minshew (Kendall Slater) and Melissa Claire Egan (Annie Lavery) have been nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category. Although in a coma for two months, Kendall was still the center of the action in Pine Valley. Zach and Bianca weren't sure how to tell her that they were going to have a baby. Before that, Kendall managed to wreck Ryan's marriage to Annie and began the destruction of her own marriage, too! Melissa Claire Egan (Annie Lavery) finally become a fixture in Pine Valley in 2008. Desperate to hold on to Ryan, Annie did everything she could to make him remember their love; when it became clear that both Greenlee and Kendall were working against her, Annie took a chapter for psycho-brother Richie's handbook and tried to kill Greenlee (many times). She did wind up killing Richie, stabbing Erica and ended up in Oak Haven where psycho-doctor Riley Sinclair tried to frame her for Richie's death.

And finally, Cornelius Smith, JR (Frankie Hubbard) has been nominated in the Outstanding Younger Actor category. In 2008, Frankie ignored his parents and friends and began dating Randi, a former prostitute. He was called back to Iraq, but that deployment was postponed for a few months.

The show was also nominated for several technical Emmy awards including: Music Direction and Composition, Technical Direction/Electronic Camera/Video Control, Lighting Direction, Costume Design and Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design.

Congratulations to all of the AMC nominees! We will be pulling for you on August 30, when the winners are announced! Soaps.com's Editor-in-Chief Christine Fix will be attending the gala, and we'll bring you Emmy scoops between now and then, too!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am so happy to see Thorsten, Alicia and Debbie be recognized for the great acting that they do. I hope they win! And Vincent, you rock as a villian, so good luck to you, too. And I'm pleased to see that the show that I've loved since 1970 is again in the running for best soap. You deserve it! The stories are compelling, interesting and cutting edge! Congrats to all of you! I wonder why Michael and Darnell aren't on the list, there is always next year...You ROCK, AMC!!
